My elderly father in law was sent to the ER for swelling of the brain due to a tumor. When he was getting his blood drawn & getting pain meds, we asked the nurse when he would get steriods. She said she did not know. That did not prompt her to check his orders or ask the doctor? We finally saw the doctor in passing, who said he should have had it hours ago & he went to check on it. Also, until then the doctor had not checked on him once after his initial admission assessment. When I became upset a nurse was whispering to the charge nurse & they were cutting me looks. The Dr. pointed out to the nurse where he had clearly written the order for the steroids. It was the same order that had his pain meds & tests on it so how could she not give it? He finally got the steroids & the charge nurse's reason he didn't get it was because they had an agency nurse on duty and sometimes they miss things on orders. Nice. Also they told his oncology doctor they had a neurologist on staff which is why she sent us there. After 5 hours they came and told us they did not have one so he had to be transported in the middle of the night to another hospital. They couldn't have cared less. Also at one point during this we had a question about the readings on the monitor and called one of the nurses over. She said she would be there in a minute and she never came back, although she walked by several times. Folks next to us were not taken care of either from what I heard. Stay away from this ER!
