I put a trim nail through a copper pipe that was on the other side of the wall from my water heater. I did my best to find out if I could get to the pipe to fix it myself, but not being a plumber my diagnosis of the pipe location was incorrect. I called Sweet Water Plumbing and they were able to send someone out the next morning which was Sunday. So the guy gets here and I tell him where I THINK the problem is and the first thing he does it take a hack saw to the water pipes coming from my water heater. After that's done the boss comes in and, going off MY inaccurate assumption as to where the leaky pipe was, quotes me $475 to move the water heater his guy just hacked out of my house. I figure OK I can suck that up because I didn't want to mess with the gas and trying to re-connect all those pipes. The boss leaves and the guy who chopped my water heater's pipes proceeded to cut holes in the dry wall behind the water heater to search for the leaky pipe. After tearing two large holes in the wall he discovers the pipe isn't back there and soon afterward finds the leaky pipe in an easily accessible location in the kitchen where I had been working. If these guys had investigated the leak BEFORE hacking away at my plumbing it would have saved me hundreds. They gave me a $499 bill and left less than two hours after arriving. Nice. Next time I'll do it myself. As it turns out I could have anyway but oh well.
