I had two of my 4 children with Dr Tate. He is an amazing doctor that expertly balances the desires of women and evidence based medicine. Both of my babies with Dr Tate were VBACs and I am so grateful that he is willing to stand up for what he believes and sees in the research and give women a chance at a "normal" birth after a c section. Through many conversations with him he was also willing to share why he supports women in VBACs. I was happy to find out that he had solid reasons that were well thought out using evidence. Dr Tate was direct and honest with be about my options. I never felt like he was just telling me what I wanted to hear or supporting me in risky behaviors just to keep me as a patient. He was upfront about the evidence based risks of both c sections and VBACs. He was willing to discuss the risks with me like an intelligent person too. I felt respected and supported throughout my pregnancies and births. I also didn't feel pressured to do things "his way" just because it was easier for him. My first doctors treated me like I was stupid and pressured me into an induction using fear and scare tactics. It was refreshing not to have to "go in for battle" with Dr Tate. It was well worth the drive to his office to be treated like an intelligent person and not just another number in a big OB practice. If you are looking for a doctor who will support you in the ways that it counts and is better at more than just bedside manner, go see Dr Tate.

Waited 4 or more hours for appointments, he ate in the exam room multiple times right before examining me, the office is dirty, medical assistants are very unprofessional and there is no patient privacy. There is much more that happened during and after birth that apparently will be removed if I type it (per the guidelines), terrible, terrifying, almost deadly things happened. Stay away from this doctor and his bad practices.

I went to Dr. Tate after many recommendations. I wanted an OB who would help me deliver naturally. Many of the negative reviews seem to focus on the long wait time/ casual attitude. I didn't take issue with either of these things. Dr. Tate's office is a family practice and he's the only physician. You have to sacrifice some efficiency to have that personal feel. My complaints are the following. First, Dr. Tate can be very harsh. I have talked to other women who actually like this as they find it to be funny and challenging— kind of like a tough coach— but it made me nervous and uncomfortable. Given what they're dealing with, I prefer my OB to be relatively kind and gentle. Dr. Tate is a lot of wonderful things but he is definitely not gentle— emotionally or physically. All of my exams and cervical checks done by him were more painful than any I had done anywhere else. I was also always wary of asking too many questions or saying too much, concerned that he might get irritated with me. Second, Dr. Tate believes a woman's body is made to deliver normally and naturally— which is great! However, to many of my concerns about the baby's health or mine (I have numerous health issues), I found his attitude to be quite flippant, as if nothing could possibly go wrong. Dr. Tate may be a miracle worker for some women. But for women who are particularly sensitive, emotionally or physically and for women with complicated health issues he might not be the best choice.

dr Tate is an old school doctor who believes that women are able to birth babies. I like his direct approach and all the knowledge and experience he brings to his care. He truly cares about his patients and about their births. He will not do an unnecessary csecrion, only a necessary one. I changed to him at 29 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child and even though he was farther away it was worth it! He delivered our vbac baby at 40+6 and it went super smooth. Can't say enough good things about dr Tate. Yes his office is not a state of the art facility but it's a family style office and they care about their patients.

Its been almost 2 years and I still rave about my experience! With 5wks left in my pregnancy I drove nearly 2 hrs so that I could try for a VBAC! The ladies at ICAN were a Godsend & its one of the most memorable moments I've ever had! There were slight issues during the labor but after 14hrs of labor, Dr. Tate helped me push my VBAC baby out in just 20 minutes! Dr. Tate and his staff are just incredible! And to everyone complaining about waiting, BOOHOO! This man is so busy! I would rather wait 5hrs in an office where the staff shows genuine care & concern, then be in another office for just an hour or less, with a staff who is just there to collect a paycheck. This is the most family oriented atmosphere, and I just love this man to pieces! Even though they are nearly 2hrs away, I still chose to use them as my GYN! I will never go anywhere else!

I adore this man, and I adore his entire staff. The C-section rate for twins is 75%, so I knew I needed someone special if I wanted to deliver my twins naturally. Dr. Tate had absolute confidence that we could do it and I'm so grateful for the support and care that he and his staff provided me. My girls were born healthy in an uncomplicated and unmedicated vaginal delivery - despite a panicky nurse who was convinced I should be in an OR! There really is a family atmosphere at this office. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else for my delivery.

We were having our second one and someone in the family recommended Dr. Tate as having a very high percentage of normal delivery. We went in with the hope of getting just that. But we ended up totally floored by a Doctor who is so committed to his patients. He is a super busy guy with so many patients and yet will be there for doing the delivery personally regardless of the time. His knowledge and confidence made us feel safe and relaxed. Funny we didn't end up having a normal delivery as my wife's blood pressure dropped a lot and there were suspicions of infection. Especially the case got complicated around that time. But even with all the confusion going around all the time, I never panicked as I had full confidence on this man. They had to do a quick C section and both mom and baby were fine. After that whenever he met us, he kept apologizing for not being able to give us a normal delivery assuring that they did the best thing that should have been done at that time. We never doubted it, but his numerous reiterations showed us how much he cared for his patients.

Dr. Tate is best a what he does! I live in Cleveland, TN, but drove the 2+hrs to see him & he helped me to VBA2C my daughter at 8lbs 6oz med-free! He is by far the best OB I have ever had & refuse to go anywhere else! I highly recommend Dr. Tate...especially if you want someone who will listen to you & geniunely care for not just you...but for your baby!

Dr. Tate is a wonderful doctor. We recently had our baby girl way too early due to complications and he was able to give her the best chance possible by delivering her alive at 1 pound at 26 weeks. Unfortunately, she passed away due to complications from being so small in the NICU. He is a kind and caring man. He was very optimistic about my future chances to have another baby and also answered all my questions with sensitivity and good information. I also want to mention how great the nurses are. One of the nurses took the time to talk with me at length during my follow up appointment when I was so sad. A true warm and loving family is the way I would describe the whole office. Yes, things can get rowdy in the waiting areas due to all the moms and kids but it is worth it to be treated like a human, rather than a science experiment. Particularly in a time of crisis and loss. As long as Dr. Tate is in business, I will never use anyone else for my OB/GYN.

I have yet to meet Dr. Tate in person as my appt. is still a week out but just the experience ive had speaking with the staff has been great. They managed to patiently stay on the phone with me while I asked questions! I originally emailed them seeking answers since I had been highly recommended to them by members of ICAN because Im attempting to do a VBAC after a traumatic delivery w/my first. Due to some concerns, I failed to respond back to the email they sent back & both staff & Dr. Tate called to follow up making sure they had the correct information & that they weren't neglecting to get ahold of me. Based on the things I've seen/heard from several, I can't imagine Im not making the right decision, as this is a very big decision! But I already feel as if Im in the right hands. Im looking forward to my appointment!

When I was pregnant with my first baby I had 'required' c section due to a breeched baby. With my second I had an automatic RCS. When I found out I was pregnant with my third, I wanted a VBAC and my OB said no one would let me do it. I found Dr. Tate and it was the best decision I ever made. Yes the atmosphere is a little more relaxed, but to me it is more like a family. I never had to wait tons and tons of time. The staff knew me by name and were very friendly overall. Dr Tate answered all of my quesions and allowed me to deliver my third baby naturally though I had just had a c section 13 mths earlier. He does like to tell stories, but that was comforting to me and he does have some days that he is not in the office for religious reasons, but still delivers babies! He took care in helping me have minimal tearing though I delivered a very large baby (9.15lbs) and he never pushed for a C section (or anything else) though I labored for over 25 hrs. He even turned my baby because she was breeched while I was still pregnant to get her head down for delivery. I have to admit he is not always exactly gentle but he is skilled. The people at Emory call him a Midwife in a Man. I tell all of my friends seeking VBACs or natural deliveries to talk to Dr. Tate. I cannot thank him enough for all he did!

Dr Tate and his staff are AMAZING. Here is what is great: he's the best at what he does. He's relaxed, an expert, and will take the time to answer your questions. In the delivery, he will do his best to make sure that the baby is safe and with as little invasion as possible. He delivered my second daughter, and the labor and delivery was amazing. He helped me do it with local anesthetic, which really made the delivery special. Cons: You should know--you will have to wait when you get to his office. He is the only doctor and he has a few nurses. His staff are like (and in many cases are) family. Being in his waiting room feels like being in his living room. I loved it, but this isn't for everyone.

We have had a traumatic emergency C-section at Northside hospital with our first son 3 years ago and were determined to do things very different the second time around. We found Dr Tate on line due to wonderful reviews and decided to meet him. Best decision we have ever made :-). Yes, sometimes we had to wait a while to be able to see him but we had an option to see the nurse and we chose to wait for him. He was always very kind and loved to explain to us every single detail, risks and options we had and at the end of the day it would be our choice even though he would give his opinion. I still can't believe that 2 weeks ago we had our daughter at Emory Midtown with Dr Tate with no medication and it was only possible with the friendly atmosphere, his sense of humor, focus and confidence that he assures you all the time that you can do it. I would highly recommend him for anyone trying for a VBAC or not. We would like to thank Dr Tate and his staff for supporting us during these 9 months of pregnancy! Partington Family
