Gave me my VBA2C when no one else would
When I was pregnant with my first baby I had 'required' c section due to a breeched baby. With my second I had an automatic RCS. When I found out I was pregnant with my third, I wanted a VBAC and my OB said no one would let me do it. I found Dr. Tate and it was the best decision I ever made. Yes the atmosphere is a little more relaxed, but to me it is more like a family. I never had to wait tons and tons of time. The staff knew me by name and were very friendly overall. Dr Tate answered all of my quesions and allowed me to deliver my third baby naturally though I had just had a c section 13 mths earlier. He does like to tell stories, but that was comforting to me and he does have some days that he is not in the office for religious reasons, but still delivers babies! He took care in helping me have minimal tearing though I delivered a very large baby (9.15lbs) and he never pushed for a C section (or anything else) though I labored for over 25 hrs. He even turned my baby because she was breeched while I was still pregnant to get her head down for delivery. I have to admit he is not always exactly gentle but he is skilled. The people at Emory call him a Midwife in a Man. I tell all of my friends seeking VBACs or natural deliveries to talk to Dr. Tate. I cannot thank him enough for all he did!

18 months later and I still rave about him!
Dr Tate and his staff are AMAZING. Here is what is great: he's the best at what he does. He's relaxed, an expert, and will take the time to answer your questions. In the delivery, he will do his best to make sure that the baby is safe and with as little invasion as possible. He delivered my second daughter, and the labor and delivery was amazing. He helped me do it with local anesthetic, which really made the delivery special.
Cons: You should know--you will have to wait when you get to his office. He is the only doctor and he has a few nurses. His staff are like (and in many cases are) family. Being in his waiting room feels like being in his living room. I loved it, but this isn't for everyone.

Unmedicated VBAC with Dr Tate!
We have had a traumatic emergency C-section at Northside hospital with our first son 3 years ago and were determined to
do things very different the second time around. We found Dr Tate on line due to wonderful reviews and decided to meet him.
Best decision we have ever made :-). Yes, sometimes we had to wait a while to be able to see him but we had an option to see the nurse and
we chose to wait for him. He was always very kind and loved to explain to us every single detail, risks and options we had and at the end of the
day it would be our choice even though he would give his opinion.
I still can't believe that 2 weeks ago we had our daughter at Emory Midtown with Dr Tate with no medication and it was only possible with
the friendly atmosphere, his sense of humor, focus and confidence that he assures you all the time that you can do it.
I would highly recommend him for anyone trying for a VBAC or not.
We would like to thank Dr Tate and his staff for supporting us during these 9 months of pregnancy!

Not for us
The reviews on here are glowing, but our experiences with Dr. Tate and his office staff are completely different. We waited over FOUR hours for my initial pregnancy visit, then THREE the second time. And he was there the whole time, so it was not as if he was out delivering babies which would explain it. Once we finally got to see him, he scarfed down a smelly sandwich right in front of us (which made me almost throw up due to morning sickness). In the second visit, one of the nurses actually said to the other one "don't be retarded"' which is highly insensitive in this environment, the Office Manager actually came in and berated us , accusing us of making the doctor go way over his time ( when, in fact, it was he who took three calls on his cell phone and spent ten minutes talking about himself), and the front desk personnel were so rude to us that we swore never to return. The bottom line with this doctor is if you have had a csection previously or having a potential problem birth, there may be nobody better. However, if you do not have any of the above, it's not worth spending your entire day waiting to see him, being berated by his staff, and having your blood drawn in front of everyone else waiting. Yes, they don't even bother taking you into a separate area. I saw a review on here where they mention he gave his opinions about Downs Syndrome and the doctor wrote a response denying it. He said the same to us during our second visit.

Dr. Tate is by far the best at what he does!!!
Dr. Tate was an answered prayer to our family! He is very intelligent and down to earth. My husband found him with our third pregnancy which was a VBAC. It was by far the best pregnancy and birthing experience out of the three I have had. I would HIGHLY recommend him!!!
