Frank Pisani: Singer, Actor, Comedian and Impressionist
While attending college at DePaul University in Chicago, Frank worked as an usher at WGN-TV. At the time, a show called BANDSTAND MATINEE was the number one show for Teens. It was a fore-runner to Dick Clark's AMERICAN BANDSTAND.
Frank would calm the teen-age audience before Showtime by singing the current hit songs. One day the audience asked JIM LOUNSBURY, the host of the show, to let Frank sing live on television. He.. caught the eye of the shows producer and made his first recording called CRY BABY, CRY.
In the late 50s, Frank was the lead singer with THE HIGHLIGHTS, a local Chicago vocal group that made it to THE BILLBOARD charts with their recording of, THE CITY OF ANGELS.
Frank went solo in the 60s and hit the charts again with his release of ANGRY on the BALLY RECORD LABEL and was a guest on THE DICK CLARKS AMERICAN BANDSTAND SHOW with his recording of WANNA DANCE.
After being released from the ARMY SIGNAL CORP, was the headliner in a show at THE SEATTLE WORLDS FAIR where he performed under the name JOHNNY ANGEL, and starred in the long running review JOHNNY ANGEL AND THE GIRLS OF THE GALAXY.
Frank also played the role of Tony Bennett in the UNIVERSAL MOTION PICTURE, HARD TO HOLD, starring RICK SPRINGFIELD. He can also be heard as the voice of JIMMY DURANTE on the karaoke POCKET SONG LABEL.
For five years Frank Pisani was known as the VOICE OF FESTA ITALIANA in Chicago.
Born and raised on Chicagos west-side, Frank is a graduate of HOLY ROSARY grade school, ST MEL high school and DE PAUL UNIVERSITY. He now makes his home in Lincolnwood, IL where he lives with his wife JoAnn. They have two daughters, Nicole, Paula, and a dog named Max.
For a short time after graduating from DE PAUL, Frank taught in the CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS SYSTEM, but as he puts it: There wasnt enough applause in it for me, so I opt for a life of show business.
Frank developed his repertoire of impersonations and comic characters in order to lengthen and give variety to his show.
He had multiple roles in THE PACK IS BACK, which had a successful run in Chicagos PIPERS ALLEY. The Sun-Times review stated; Frank Pisani upstages everyone.
A few years ago Frank was honored by the CHICAGO MUSIC AWARDS with a LIFE-TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. He recently returned from ATLANTIC CITY where he performed at the world famous TROPICANA.
Some of you may remember Frank from the South Sides Drury Lane Theater. He started out performing in the lounge and ended up as the last comedian to perform on the main stage before DRURY LANE closed its doors in 2004.
