When I first visited the Martial Arts Center about three months ago, I was blown away by the quality of the teaching. Shihan Mike and his staff have a way of encouraging students of all ages to give their best effort and continually challenge and develop themselves. Based on my initial impressions, I enrolled my son (9) and niece (14). I was also permitted to join the adult class for a full month and now I'm enrolled too. While this dojo is certainly capable of helping your realize fitness and self-defense goals, where it really shines is the way it emphasizes character, courtesy and good habits for living. What we gain through martial arts reflects positively in all areas of life.

I looked at many Atlanta dojos and this was the only one I found with the right combination: great instructors who know what they're doing and why/how it works, they are able to explain and pass on the knowledge effectively, the other students are there to help and train with you, etc. I will simply say that I've trained for many years at other dojos when I was growing up in NC, and this is the only place I would train in Atlanta for Karate and Jujitsu. I am already getting my 3 year old and 9 month old ready to train here when they get a little older!

Shihan Mike and the other black belts run great classes. I am thankful for the real training I get in my classes. Everyone is friendly and spirited. At times I arrive early for class and observe Shihan working with his younger students. He works them hard and expects alot from them. Good luck in your choice of schools. I hope you can stop by and try some classes. I am sure you will understand why I like The Martial Arts Center, See you soon.

I've been training at TMAC now for 5+ years. My physical, spiritual, and mental growth have been outstanding. This is a traditional dojo, teaching a combination of traditional Okinawan Karate and Japanese Ju Jitsu. If you're interested in learning self- defense, self-respect, and discipline through: sparring, grappling, joint-locking, throwing, and traditional forms, then this is the place for you.

I have trained in traditional Japanese Karate for more than 20 years. Through these years, I have had the privilege to train with some very well respected instructors, many internationally renowned. I take my martial arts very seriously and would not be part of a dojo that does not uphold the high standards and traditions I have come to expect. I am in my second year of training here and have been very pleased with the school. The serious yet engaging learning atmosphere that the lead instructor Shihan Hernandez has created, allows both beginners and advanced students the opportunity to further their knowledge and skills in many aspects of martial arts. I am very pleased to be part of this school and would highly recommend it.

Have observed "black belts" here with improper form and technique, but if you want a low pressure watered down martial arts experience this place is great. If you seek game-changing, to the next level and beyond personal growth or are a high achiever, there are better places. Staff is not receptive to suggestions for improvement - they'll get agitated and defensive.

It is greatly distressing to find this review. In addition to an adherence to the strict standards and protocols of traditional Okinawan Karate Do, a primary focus of The Martial Arts Center has always been good community citizenship and superior customer service. A fact that is supported by the 5 star ratings from other reviewers here and elsewhere. It is unfortunate that this reviewer chose to express their discontent here. We invite them to contact us directly so that we might have the opportunity to appropriately address and resolve their concerns. It is our hope that through open communication they will come to understand and support what we are doing here at The Martial Arts Center.
The Martial Arts Center is a place where kids and adults alike can develop both physically and mentally in a positive environment. In the few years I have trained here, I have developed several great friendships, learned more about myself and others than ever before, and am in the best shape of my life. These (and many more) benefits stem from the wealth of knowledge, patience, and support from teachers and fellow students.

My daughter has been attending TMA for about 2 years.....Lets just say that she may be described as "spirited", catch my drift? Sensei Mike has shown amazing patience with not only my daughter, but all the other children AND adults with whom he comes in contact. I have observed the instruction occurring in the school for hours and hours. The is no question that Sensei is completely sincere in his desire to make our children understand the importance of hard work, respect, manners & most of all confidence. He strikes an amazing balance between being a firm instructor, a partner with each parent and a mentor for the kids. I only wish that my child could spend more time dedicated to time at TMA. I am excited about my son joining the program ASAP. He is soon to be 4 years old and I am excited about getting him together with Sensei Mike for an early foundation in the martial arts.

My son has been taking karate at The Martial Arts Center in Toco Hills for over 2.5 years now. He loves it and has gained greater self-confidence and self-esteem. As a parent, I can certainly tell that Mike Hernandez loves what he's doing and cares greatly for each child he teaches. Thank you, Shihan Mike (and the rest of your staff), for a valuable learning experience for my son.

We a huge fans of TMC and Shihan Mike! He is an incredible teacher, keeps kids active and learning during the entire class, makes everything interesting and fun for the kids. They adore and respect him, as he helps raise their own self discipline and self respect to the highest levels. Character development is an integral part of the teaching at TMC. The lessons are also an amazing value. Seems like a huge expense at first, but you and your child can spend as much time as you like at the dojo for the same fee. Our 6 year old son goes 4x/week and looks forward to it every day. Comes out to be a way better value (in every way) than other sports we have played.
