Hey everyone, I have a lot of background in animal care, having a pre-veterinary bachelor's degree and having a job as an animal care provider at an animal hospital for 4 years now. I just started working at The Pet Company in Milford, CT as an animal care tech about a month ago as a second job and what I've seen there has been atrocious. Here is my laundry list: the whole place smells of feces and the cages have a distinct smell of ammonia. Many of the dogs have worms and kennel cough. I have a strong inclination that they come from puppy mills. The back room looks like it have never been cleaned. I cleaned out one corner of it and found months to years old dog and rabbit feces (I have no idea how rabbit feces got back there since the rabbits never see the back room). Many techs don't wash out food bowls but simply spray them down with water. Proper disinfectant is rarely used, if at all. I've been working there a month and still haven't seen a paycheck. I've heard from many other store associate that they have gone months without being paid. The manager, Jaime, is very weird and disappears into the bathroom for hours at a time or falls asleep at the food court or at his desk in the back room. He's also been hours late to work. Overall, this business is shady in both how it treats its animals and employees. Please do not buy animals from this store. Let it go out of business.

The conditions that the dogs are kept in are unreasonable. Most of the dogs look underweight. They have NOTHING in their cages, no toys or blankets. There was a white boxer in the store that had feces on him and all over the cage. None of the workers seems concerned in cleaning the dog or the cage. The workers were not sociable; they seemed to not be concerned about the animals and were only there for the paycheck. These conditions are horrible and the place should be shut down.

I am writing to inform all people to not step foot into any of the Pet Company Stores. Their mission is to find all their puppies (which they claim aren't from puppy mills...is a lie) a safe warm home. I fought for a 4 month old female shih tzu.. she was priced so high and I was trying to work with the store to come to some compromise... but the store failed me. Through some work I was able to obtain the store owners number.. JAMIE BERG...I called him repeatedly to try to speak to him.. no answer... I Left messages.. no return calls.. I even called Danbury when he was scheduled to work and no return calls. Come to find out today.... the shih tzu was transfered to Milford to Danbury store and sold for $730.00 The price we offered for the puppy two months ago!! I am outraged. Everyone in the Milford store knew I was wanted to purchase her and they had all my contact information. I am so disgusted and would never purchase a puppy from there.. let alone step foot into their store. And I will do all I need to do.. to let others know!
