I don't understand the experiences other reviewers have had with this pub, but I've been there many times and only once was it short of outstanding. The beer selection is simply the best in Atlanta - not the most, perhaps, but the BEST in quality. 27 or so beers on draft, 100 in the bottle - and what beers, porters, stouts, ales of all kinds, trippels, etc. If there is a beer heaven, the Porter is the gate! The food is wonderful as well. Try the goat cheese fritters, or whatever they call them, they are simply incredible. Attended one of their "beer dinners", and it was incredible as well. Nick, the owner and chef, really knows what he is doing. But still, it is about the beer. If you are a beer lover, check them out, you won't be disappointed!

My sister and I dined here yesterday. We drank two beers apiece with our meals. I paid the $39.61 bill with a $100 bill. The waitress returned with a pile of bills (a 20, a 10, a 5 and 5 ones) and did not seem particularly surprised when I pointed out the amount was short. Perhaps someone thought we might not notice after drinking two beers? The waitress blamed it on the bartender and later returned with an additional $20 but no 39 cents. So I left a tip of $7 instead of the $8 (20%) I would normally leave and my sister noted the change problem on the tab. I strongly recommend checking the tab and your change carefully if you choose to dine or drink here.

We are always ready for some fresh pickins for downtown eating. This place has the right idea, but they need some more practice. I ordered the appetizer portion of the grilled caesar salad, and it was the saddest little head of shriveled up lettuce I've seen. The fabulous food with the Bacchanalia portions isn't going to work in the heart of Little 5, although the beer is nice and cold. Sevice too, is still working th kinks out. We'll definitely head back to the Porter bar, but with expectations of improvement next time.
