POSITIVES: 1) Contractor was willing to do a small concrete job that few other companies would even consider. 2) He was confident enough to do something many people considered too difficult (add concrete footings under an existing slab). 3)Contractor was pleasant and likeable. 4)He had the lowest price for the job. CONS: 1) Communication was very difficult. Think missed appointments, failure to call and schedule the work within the stated time frame, cut old watering system lines (without asking first). 2) He and his workers would come in my backyard without letting me they were there, even after I asked him not to do that. 3) The framework was removed too quickly (only 4 hours after pouring), leaving sloppy edges. SUMMARY: He did have good references (I called five people that he provided), so he might be worth the risk for a bigger job, such as a driveway. This company is just not the most professional option for you, which is really unfortunate, because I really wanted to give him a good reference. He's a classic older southern gentleman, minus the poor communication, of course.
