The Waldorf approach focuses on nurturing children, fostering creativity, self-sufficiency, and community along with academic excellence. The curriculum is holistic, hands-on, and adaptable to the needs of the individual learner. Teachers spend several years with the same class, so they know their students and are invested in their learning. The school community is really welcoming and diverse, and parent involvement is strong.

If you're thinking about schools, I recommend you go to the 8th Grade graduation of the Waldorf School. Each student gives a speech and they are wonderful. They show that the finished product of a good school is a strong human being not a good test-taker. My children enjoy going to school (something foreign to me) and they are learning. Love the strings program. We have 1 violinist and two cellists. Great art, great math, great science. I have high hopes for the new spanish teacher. ;)

I don't normally do reviews but the kindergarten program at Waldorf is incredible. After checking out many preschools, we were thrilled to find this school in Decatur for our son. We were not familiar with Waldorf but its proven approach to child development really makes sense. Also, the teachers are amazing with a high level of experience and kindness. If you're looking for a nurturing environment for your child, check them out!
