I have used Too Groovy about 4 times now and I'm very pleased every single time. I usually need a quick blow out and flat iron, so I go here when I need a last minute fix. I've had different stylists every time but I'm always very pleased with the service and the in and out service! Very Professional and Knowledgeable about natural hair!

I only went to this salon once but the time I went my stylist made me feel soo damm bad about my NATURAL HAIR! I had to keep asking her if this was a salon that specialized in natural hair and her answer was yes. This was my experience.....I arrived for my appointment that was around 5 only to wait about 30-45 min for not even the stylist but the assistant to come get me and shampoo me. While the assistant shampooed me the stylist came over amazed at how think and kinky my hair was and acted like she didn't want to do it. While under the dryer I even saw her talking to her assistant bad about my hair (I guess how nappy and thick it was). This salon is really good at what they do but I think the some of their staff needs a lesson in customer service!!!! I will go back but not to the same stylist!

My experiences at Too Groovy have always been great. I love it and my hair loves it!! My stylist is Matthew Fears. He is very talented and always has me and my hair bouncing and smiling when I walk out of the salon!!! Two Thumbs Up!!

Communication is key! As a hair stylist it is important that you are able to hear what your client wants. I went into the salon fully expecting to cut all of my hair off. I longed for a short fun style that would leave me footlose and fancy free. My stylist took one look at my hair and decided it was "too nice" to cut. She preceded to wash, condition and style my hair the way she saw fit. Nevermind that I remained very clear about what I wanted. She was very firm in her opinion, "Try your hair this length for a while, and then decide." After a hefty $70+ pricetag, my hair looked limp and old-ladyish. If you want a good wash and conditioning, go to Too Groovy. But,if you want to be able to decide how you hair is styled, run in another direction.

I am the manager of the salon and remember your visit as if it were yesterday. Since you have been a long time Too Groovy client were we surprised and shocked that you did not like your hair because you come so frequently and your hair is beautiful. After the first stylist styled your hair, we went above and beyond to give you the curls that you wanted by letting another stylist "loosen" the curl a bit like you requested. When you did not like our second attempt to give you what you wanted, you explained to me that you had a big acting audition that day and you were nervous and felt that you "looked old"(older than 35 to use your exact words). We empathized with you, realized that your situation was not really about your hair and comped your service. Please know that we professionals and have been in the industry for over 8 years and value feedback. We thank you for patronizing our salon over the years and only wish you the best.

I will never go back. The stylist (Tiara) had the nerve to leave me in the chair and walk away because I asked her to change a few things to get my hair to my satisfaction. Then the manager and front desk receptionist had no sympathy to me stating that my hair looked just fine as if I was supposed to be satisfied because they were happy with it. Well the last time I checked, I came to the salon to meet my satisfaction not theirs. I am so outraged by how disrespectful and downright un- caring she was after I have patronized her so many times. With the salon's prices, $65 for a shampoo and $25 for a trim, I should atleast walk away with a smile on my face. Many of these horrifying experiences, in my opinion, are due to the lack of ability to communicate and ego from the stylist. Business 101 - when someone is paying you for your service, you are serving not directing. It is the customers needs you are to fulfill not your own. I will, within reason, work with a stylist and their communication challenges, but we have to draw a line somewhere and demand what we pay for. Tiara was the stylist- beware! I am still distressed by the situation because it was so cold and I was going to an important audition afterwards so, I was at their mercy- feeling very vulerable. Save yourself the heartache ladies!

I have been natural for about 6 years and I am so glad I found Too Groovy! Previous attempts to straighten my hair left me with either a hard hard press that was too greasy (think blue magic and hot comb on the stove) or it was a poofy mess in about 2 hours. Too Groovy leaves my hair beautiful, touch-able and free. My husband loves to run his fingers through it when I come from the salon! The flat iron (or silking as they call it) lasts for 2 weeks when I wrap my hair. No additional heat necessary. Even in these dog days of summer I keep my style. I love my stylist LaTesa. She is learning my hair and is willing to satisfy me and my needs, not put her vision on me.

I mistook this place for an upscale salon. Wrong! Mostly chicks with major attitude who never heard of customer service. Expect to be required to be on time for your appointment, then sit and wait, and wait, and wait some more. You might even have the "pleasure" as I did to have them leave you sitting with your hair half done while they go and work on someone else for 45 minutes! No explanation. No apology. Needless to say, this was my last visit. I'm not going to pay to be treated badly. Nice salon concept--bad implementation.

Let me start by letting you know up front that if they cancel your appointment-your best bet is to be a psychic! Even after I showed & read the confirmation email they sent to me(not the cancellation email)to the "receptionist"- not ONCE did he apologize,& not once did he offer to reschedule me. When I made my appointment, they told me I was already in the system since my first & only visit to this salon in 2007. Is it my job to ask them to update their records? No, it is not. The "receptionist" kept saying they sent the cancellation, even though I'm standing there reading what they sent to me. He says:"We also called you on Tuesday."-3 days b4 appt. So, I verified the number they called - it was wrong! I still haven't heard an apology, and I still wasn't asked if I'd like to reschedule. I went through he** getting there to be received as though it was my fault that they cancelled! At best, they could've scheduled me with someone else & let me decide if that's okay. Once I got home, I called to speak with a manager. I was given the "receptionist"! Turns out he was the so-called asst mgr!Jamal proceeds to tell me he checked their outbox & the mgr, Cybil sent me the cancellation. Really??!! Is that still all I get to hear as the Paying Customer who was actually going to make this a weekly visit?! Black salons need to get it together! A real biz would've been glad to see my loyalty in returning after 3 years.Clearly, they have all the business they need...even in this economy

Please be advised that Natasha is not you're stylist!! AWFUL would be an understatement to describe my experience with her. She is very unprofessional, inconsiderate and heavy handed. I suggested that she take it easy on me and she totally ignored my suggestion and mumbled a derogatory response. A couple minutes later, she burned my scalp four times. I politely advised her that my time with her was up and proceeded to management. Manager/Sybil was very professional, understanding and apologetic. She referred me to another stylist within minutes. Let me just say "Sybil saved the day". I will be returning to stylist/Salentia or Sarentia (spell check please, her booth is upstairs) in a couple weeks - yippee~

After numerous years of severe hair issues resulting from relaxers and color, and a recommendation from a family friend to try going natural via Too Groovy's magical touch, I gave them a try. I called Monday morning and was able to get a next day appointment at my time of choosing. The salon is easily accessible off of Ponce and has street as well as validated garage parking. The salon is beautifully decorated in ultra chic and trendy decor which adds to the great atmosphere. The staff readily greeted me when I entered, my stylist was waiting for me at the receptionist desk, and I immediately felt welcome. I really like how she did not immediately begin doing my hair eager to rush me out and took the time to consult with me, explain the natural process, and ask if I had any questions. I opted for a hydrating steam treatment to help with my breakage/shedding/lack of moisture problem. The style came out great and it is a huge improvement from when I first arrived at the salon. Something I noticed was how EVERY client that was in there had beautiful, long, luscious hair.

I called Too Groovy Salon and Spa in Midtown after reading the great reviews and hearing the same. I explained to the receptionist that I had naturally curly hair with color and needed someone who could really do well with curly, fine, colored hair. She recommended I come in and have a consultation with SHEENA who is known at the salon for doing great hair but most importantly GREAT COLOR. I met with her and felt very comfortable with following up with a hair appt. SHEENA did not dissappoint me! She was able to match my roots to the exact shade it needed to be. My hair was washed, well conditioned and styled. She did a great blow out and flat ironed it to perfection. I am sold on "Too Groovy"!

Too Groovy Salon is top of the line. Some people say that it is to expensive but i say you get what you pay for and at Too Groovy it is worth every $. The customer service is great and things are done in such a timely order i love it there. Due to my crazy work schedule i go to two different stlyist that i think are both state of the art at what they do and their names are Terry and Cynthanea so if you are ever in need of real hair care look them up at Too Groovy Salon.

I recently went to Too Groovy after a coworkers referral and words cannot express my level of satisfaction. Everyone was professional, kind and courteous. I walked out feeling and looking like a million bucks! What other reviews say is true... you definitely get what you pay for! I won't go anywhere else!
