Foundation Piers
Purchased house in 2008 that was built in 1984. House built on a hill, therefore the foundation was built on filldirt. Back left corner of slab had settled at some point during original owner's ownership. They therefore had four piers installed to stabilize that part of the foundation. I was not comfortable with the current piers, it seemed as though the foundation was still settling. Called up several foundation repair specialists, and Trotter Company showed themselves to be the most professional. They took a couple of days to sink in seven piers back in early March 2011. Then after letting the piers fully "absorb" their new surroundings for a few months, they came back to the house to conduct a floor elevation mapping of my basement. I can then compare the current readings to future readings should I believe it necessary. This way Trotter Company and I can know how well the piers are holding up over the years. The piers have a lifetime gaurantee that is transferable to future homeowners. What more could I ask for? Thank you Trotter Company, and thank you Bruce Bowen (the Site Supervisor). Bruce was instrumental in answering all my questions, alleviating concerns, and making sure everything came together - A true professional.

As for any criticism, it would be that Trotter Company's web site information and their Catalog of Services informatin were not up to date. This did create some confusion and concern for me until I was able to clarify with Bruce.

SO SORRY. WE DON'T FIX INSTALLATION DAMAGES.
We had a dehumidifier installed by Trotter (Brandon Woods tech) in June 2011. There was an immediate noise problem as he had put it directly below a bedroom. He moved the dehumidifier on July 1. He was in a hurry because he was leaving for the holiday weekend with his wife and no kids. The pipe which connects the dehumidifier to the extraction pump (to move the water out of the house) was not seated & leaked. Unfortunately we did not find it for several days. By then it had spread throughout the workshop, into stored lumber, under the wall and into the next room, where it flooded the new stack of drywall just delivered on July 1st for refinishing a basement room.

Trotter was closed for a long July 4th. I reached Greg, the sales guy, but no one came out. We cleaned up the muddy, heavy, smelly drywall mess ourselves, got a shop vac to suck up the water, and spent the weekend cleaning. Brandon came out eventually and saw the water trail, the remaining drywall mess, the new mold damage to the wall & support post, the items damaged that were on the floor in those rooms, etc. He said he would take care of it. I insisted on a drip pan and sensor for the next time the pump fails.

July 18th, Trotter's first corrective action: 2 incorrectly sized drip pans from a big box store and a sensor. As for the damages, he said "THERE IS NOTHING IN TROTTER'S CONTRACT THAT SHOWS ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGES CAUSED BY INSTALLATION. WE WILL NOT DO ANYTHING FOR YOU."

One Year Later - Thrilled
My basement flooded in the september 2009 floods. We were convinced it must have been a one-time deal. After months of water every time it rained and trying different things that all failed, we got estimates on basement systems from one other company and then Trotter. The Trotter salesman did not try to sell me anything I didn't need and helped me determine what I could omit based on the expense without compromising the job. Their price was reasonable - much less than the other estimate. In April 2010, they put in the system that catches any water that does make it inside and routes it to a sump pump in our garage. The work was done faster than expected, the crew was beyond helpful and cleaned up before leaving. We have not had a wet basement since, but we never really knew if water was actually coming in UNTIL last weekend. We were outside the morning after a big rain and physically saw the water drain from the sump pump. Thrilled is all I can say. I would use them again in a second.

Get a second opinion before going with Trotter
After moving into a 30 year old house, I experienced some water issues in my basement. I called Trotter because of their commercials and website. Within a few minutes the rep told me I needed an interior drain and sump pump for about $3000. I asked if there were other options and he basically said "no". Luckily I got a second opinion and simply adusted a few things in regards to the drainage outside my house. Trotter probably does good work, but you should make sure it is needed before spending the cash.

I have never seen a wet basement, crawl space or even a settlement problem that was not caused by or accelerated by unmanaged storm water (landscape drainage or roof drainage). After more than 80 years in the “basement business” Trotter reps are trained to check for drainage issues first and you can see by the many “thanks for recommending drainage improvement” posts we have received on Kudzu (and hundreds more in thank you letters addressed directly to me) that we recommend drainage improvements on virtually every job we visit. I am not sure why drainage problems were not pointed out to you but I am anxious to see your particular circumstances. Since Kudzu posts are anonymous, I can’t research your inspection without your address, if you will get that to me at 770-458-0810, I will be happy to revisit your property and double check our representative’s assessment of your problem. Thank you for taking your time to post your concern. Mike Trotter.

Very impressed
We were having some foundation problems due to poor stormwater drainage and so we had Trotter come out to give us an estimate. The guy who came out was prompt, very professional, and took a thorough look at our house, even going all through the crawlspace. He was very upfront and honest, saying that our problem was something a general contractor and landscaping could handle. He explained in depth what he saw, and was so nice in answering my questions, even after he knew we wouldn't be hiring them! I appreciated that honesty so much!
