Not So Great
This place is horrible. Mostly all the stores are useless, you've got people running around acting like hoodlums, and to top it off you have homeless people begging for money every 10 feet.

Underground Atlanta is Very Unique: A place all tourists go!
There are always something new going on at the underground in Atlanta such as the new Dupsies African clothing store with the unique clothing for all, the styles are not only unique but cut across all ages. My feelings and view of underground Atlanta stores can be callibrated in the poem below:I must go to underground Atlanta againfor the call of the latest in african attiresIs a loud call and a sure callthat won't be just a fadand all I ask is a happy dayand free parking for all shoppersto make buying a glorious affairswith credit cards and palstic bagsand no more crying for lack ofauthentic and stylish Affrican clothingto adore the black history monthfor all african weddings, naming outfits, office and church outfits and other special occassions A mirror into our past far beyond the african pyramids in EgyptI must go down to underground Atlanat again!By Dr. TO

Wow stay away
We drove around the Underground part of Atlanta fully expecting to get out and do some shopping because several internet sites recommended this as a great historic shopping area. This was at 5 - 6 pm, not yet dark out. There was NO WAY we were about to get out of the car. I am serious, there was a very very dangerous vibe to this part of town. It was crowded, police everywhere, people cruising all over the street almost hitting us NOT tourist friendly at all. The Atlantic shopping area is the way to go, outdoor layout and great selection of stores! Atlanta, you have to do something about the Underground - the dangerous 'vibe' was a big turnoff and it is obvious that other nearby areas in Downtown are suffering because of the chaos of the Underground. I go to NYC every year, and i have spent time in several other big cities as well and I have absolutely never felt so unsafe as I did driving near the Underground....

Underground is unique and safe
As a native of Atlanta and a local I have to say that Underground is a good place to visit. The crime that some have associated with Underground and the area are not so. I have lived in Downtown Atlanta and work across the street from Underground at Georgia State University for over 25 years. You do NOT need to walk in fear around underground. That does not mean that you should not exercise caution, especially at night. Unfortunately the World of Coke has moved to Centennial Park next to the Georgia Aquarium so that major tourist draw is gone. Still its worth a check out.
