Business overview

The country's oldest restaurant in continuous service lures touristy crowds with its fresh seafood and award-winning chowder.

The Union Oyster House, located on the Freedom Trail near Faneuil Hall, enjoys the unique distinction of being America's oldest restaurant.

This Boston fixture is housed in a building dating back to pre-revolutionary days and started serving food in 1826. The stalls and oyster bar where Daniel Webster was a regular customer are in their original positions... Today's politicians, celebrities and tourists still come in to enjoy the food.

We are the third family in nearly two centuries to own the Union Oyster House.

Oldest Restaurant, 7/01/2008

Despite all the write ups we were not impressed--the corn bread was excellent but the rest of the food was average and the service was just ok. Still not sure if the history is worth the money.

Crowded but good, 6/06/2008

Always crowded, this restaurant is frequented by locals and tourists and it definitely shouldn't be missed. The raw bar serves a variety of shellfish. The lobster is my favorite and everything taste... really fresh. The restaurant has a full service bar and the prices are reasonable.

$$$

There was huge hype written about the restaurant. The food was ok but nothing above ordinary, service was barely so - so and it was expensive.
