She did the wrong surgery which ended up killing my poor kitty when she should have had a 90% survival chance if treated properly. After paying a 1000$ for the wrong surgery they charged me another 700$ to unsuccefully try to save her. Ill never get over tjem being alloeed to practice. Do not risk your pets life at this butcher.

The staff lie they tell customers wrong information. I was there for an appointment and they accused me of cussing at the staff. I am a christian lady and I do not speak that way. the vet was rude and accusive and that is no way to treat a customer. I was a pying customer. They treated me as if like I was getting services for free. I will never go there again

My family over the past 4 years has taken 6 dogs to this vet, my parents take their 4 dogs, I recently got a puppy and started taking him there and my grandfather takes his dog there as well. I have never had a problem with the vet until recently, one of our dogs had a problem with his ears and she told us we were bad pet owners because we didn't have the money to have him rechecked, and she claimed to have told us this was free, which I later learned was a lie as my grandfathers dog for a recheck was charged a 25.00 office charge. She is rude, and disrespectful and I refuse to take my dog there ever again. My grandfather does not have much money and has a fixed income and he told her not to run tests on an animal, he declined and on the revisit without his knowledge she did the tests and charged him for it. The same dog I took back and was told that she wasn't going to waste her money (well I didn't know MY money was her money) on giving the dog a shot if we weren't going to do bloodwork... And one of her incompetent workers caused my puppy stress when giving him a rabies vaccine did not properly hold him down and had to stick him 3 times before a successful injection. The dog now has a lump at the injection site and when I inquired if that was common she gave me attitude told me she was not psychic and I would HAVE to bring in the dog... Just so I can get charged more. I will never take my dog there, there are plenty of better quality vets between my house and this vet.

Dr. Johnsen and the staff at Van Aken are great. I started using Van Aken as a foster mom for a local animal rescue (many rescues trust, use and recommend this vet) and now I take my own animals there as well. I put much more research and thought into my vet than my own doctor. Dr. Johnsen has handled routine and emergency cases for my animals. She has cried with me when I have had to put my senior dogs to sleep and squeezed me in when my dogs had emergency. I have even had to call her on the weekend through an answering service and she returned my call within minutes. She is very caring and skilled. She also knows that everyone has limited funds and tries to help you make the most economic and loving decision, whether you can treat the dog with medication or if she needs to see a specialist. She is very honest and compassionate. In fact, I have two dogs and a cat scheduled to see her next month for surgeries. I trust no one else.

On 1-25-08 my 8 month old Chihuahua Hamlet was neutered/butchered at Van Aken by Suzanne Johnsen. Luckily Hamlet received medical care from a competent vet in time and we were able to save his life. Suzanne Johnsen lied about what caused the problem. Please see my web page at www.myspace.com/tracysreviews to view pictures and read the public records of others who have reported their bad experiences with Ms. Johnsen to the Arizona State Veterinary Medical Examining Board.

Our sweet neo mastiff was killed here after being spayed. Dr. Susan Johnson told us it was evident that she had bled to death. she told us it was common in large dogs to have an artery or vein out of place and that she may have cut it during the surgery and not noticed it. we filed a complaint w/the az board of vets.she walked into the first meeting with an attorney!! we werent sueing her!! we just wanted answers..why if you know that lrg dogs could have arteries in the wrong place ..why would u just go in and cut w/out checking them out first. anyway..she walked in and lied! she said it was not evident that the dog bled to death because ther was not enough blood in the cavity to say. that is not what she told us. this dr is not someone to trust with any animal!! she had some nerve to change her story and just left us with more questions. now we'll never know why our zoey died in her care.
