inhumane, callous, uncaring
Horrific. We had to have our girl put down and thought it would be less stressful for our dog to have someone come to the house. They didn't sedate her before holding her down to give her the injection, or offer. The first thing I heard was, "you're going to want to back away". Since we didn't know sedation was a possibility or what to expect, we were at their mercy. We then had to watch Abby struggle what seemed like torture for the next 15 - 20 MINUTES because it didn't take the first time. They were yelling to get me out of the room because I was so upset at the way Abby was struggling and at her obvious discomfort. Quick, peaceful, hold their paw and pet them while they go quietly - this is what we heard it would be like. Not with this vet. They said it was our dog- "some dogs don't do well." Afterwards we got "no one else has ever complained" and a shrug and "guess we could've sedated her." These were our last moments with our dog and our regular vet has confirmed that this is never, ever how it should go. I don't want this for anyone else.
