crappy service
Although I've been to this Vortex a few times, and in the past have had good service with better-than-average bar food, I had to give only one star due to the recent bad experience I had there. Two nights ago, I and 5 of my friends attempted to dine in at this establishment. It was around midnight. The hostess led us outside and up a flight of stairs to a small upstairs dining room. The place was literally EMPTY. The people in my party were the only diners there. She led us all the way to the back of the room to one of the larger tables. However, the table was pushed back close to the far wall. So that my friends could easily access the other half of the table (so they could pull out their chairs, comfortably remove their coats, etc.), we moved the table about 3 feet away from the wall. No big deal, right? The server, a 30-something black dude with braids pulled back, walked out and immediately said, with an extremely disgusted look on his face, "Why did you move the table?" We were all taken aback by his attitude, as we tried to stammer out the fact that we couldn't easily access the 3 chairs on the one side of the table. He rolled his eyes and walked away.Needless to say, we had suddenly lost our appetites. We walked out. We went to Gladys Knight's Chicken 'n Waffles around the corner and had a great experience with a nice, smiling staff. With the plethora of dining choices in Atlanta, I find it hard to believe that the Vortex can afford to provide this type of service. Yes, you have good burgers, but if you have jerks delivering them to the tables, then I'd rather go hungry!
