West Second St Bar

This bar has finally gotten rid of all the ""Gang Bangers"" but it seems to have lost its way. The ""Mojo"" is gone from this place, the KJ on the weekend has no personality to speak of. No interraction with the crowd like the old KJ had. If you want to sing, there are better choices in downtown Reno

I went there while visiting last year. I had a great time. Went on a couple of weekdays so it always started up slow at first but by around 11:30pm people start to fill in and it picks up. The crowd seemed to be mostly locals which I liked and the bartender was great. That girl can sing. I've heard that it's less fun on the weekends because of the crowds so if you want to just chill and have a good time go there on a weekday.

Seriously..\r\rReno of 2008 isn?t Reno of 2000; it?s a whole new crowd. I?m the Head of security and ill tell you if you think the bar is bad, you should have seen in 5 months ago. I?ve taken a great deal of personal abuse and violence to clean the crowd up. Its getting a lot better , but until the Rep we earned from being a ""Oakland style bar"" from the folks in Oakland goes away , we are going to have a lot of ""gangster and Gangster wanna-be's "" hanging out . We DO have a dress Code and enforce it. It would help us (the bar) if the RPD would sweep the sidewalks when we toss out the trouble makers. We have thrown out dirt bags trying to come in to sell dope and the RPD refuses to disperse them from in front of our club. So all the angry dirt bags that get refused entrance mad mug, talk endless trash `and threaten everyone coming in. It makes our job very hard while we try to clean up inside, we get almost no help on the outside.\rSo people walking by see nothing but a bunch of angry thugged out d-bags leaning on the building, smoking dope and drinking. (We can?t kick em off the public access) so we get bypassed by the folks we are trying to attract. It?s very hard right now. \rRPD is doing a much better job lately; we have seen a lot more presence, so kudos to them. \rMy name is Chris, if there is a problem.see me im on friday-saturday night at the door...

I'm orignally from L.A., CA. (born and raised). I use to club @ The Fabulous Florentine Gardens, Baby Does, Pepper's, Red Onion's, Wing's, Paladium and more in the late 80's and early 90s. I sure miss Hollywood!! This place (West 2nd Street whatever) was the MOST VIOLENT, WORSE nighmare I have ever experienced. I am prior Military (U.S. Air Force) from 1981-1985. I am an anglo saxon white male - age 45 and visited this place last night (5/2/08) - Friday night. I arrived @ approximately 3:15 a.m. to my amazement I could NOT believe all the ""wanna-be"" gangsta's and the plethora of ARROGANT Security kids trying to be something they definitely were NOT! Trying to pick up on drunk bar fly's left and right, dancing with them, smoking (SMOKE WAS UNBEARABLE) not to mention the lack of class and style in this dump!!! Good news is I did not have to pay a cover charge (could see why) when I arrived. Within the first 15 min's of being in that small, crowded DUMP with BAD MUSIC I almost got into a fight! There were about 4-5 fight's in a mere 1 hour of misery while I was there. I did NOT drink anything. I thought maybe something would jump out of the glass and grab me! LIke a ""rocky horror picture show!!"" Where is MANAGEMENT here? Where are the Owner's? Police were there when I left outside. Many hispanic and African American kids who look like there were right out of MTV. I love black people, asian women and latina's big time! I""m from L.A. remember? 42 years of it! I live in So. Orange County (Irvine, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach) area's and seen some pretty nice, high class places W/O ALL THE UNHEALTHY CIGERETTE SMOKE, VIOLENT, NO DRESS CODE clubs in 15 different states and 3 countries - but NEVER anything like this!! I was very disappointed, disrespcted and felt as though being in San Quentin State Prison working as a volunteer counselor as well as in L.A. County Jail, Youth Authorities were MUST less violent!! I would NEVER go back!
