The Dr is good but the staff was not very engaged in assisting with new glasses. They basically just unlocked the cabinets.

I have been seeing Dr. Arey for several years and I've been very happy with my treatment. The only issue I've run into is the front office staff. A few years ago there were a few times where I thought the staff was kind of rude, but it was confined to one person and she wasn't there the next time I was in. Most recently, there was a minor problem with billing (I was being charged more than I was told I would be for two boxes of contacts) and when I called to find out why I spoke to Karen. She was very rude and acted as though the issue was my fault (even though it was clearly an error on their behalf). I was explaining what I thought had happened to her when she interrupted me to tell me I should probably talk to the person who took my order. I said I didn't think that was necessary and would appreciate it if she didn't interrupt me. She said I interrupted her first, and at this point I was getting frustrated. I asked if she understood I was the customer. At that point she said they would write off the $6 difference. While I was asking her to send out a revised receipt for insurance purposes, she hung up on me. I called back and spoke with her again. She claimed she thought I said goodbye, but we both knew that wasn't the case. As I said, I've always have excellent care here but the front office staff could use some customer service training.

This is the first time I have ever taken the time to write a review; however, after reading a couple of the other reviews I felt compelled to write one myself. My husband and I have used Windward Eye Care for about 7 years. I typically see Dr. Ayers and my husband sees Dr. Alexander. Over the years we have always been completely satisfied with the service we have received from both the doctors and staff. My husband and I wear contact lenses and wear our glasses mostly just for a short period of time each night. We have always purchased our contact lenses through Windward and have purchased our glasses at a discount retailer due to the fact that insurance will not pay for both and we didn't feel we needed a very high quality frame since we wear them so little. Neither of us have ever received any negative attitude when asking for a copy of our prescription. The staff has always been polite and accomodating to our request. Last year my 8 year old child also needed glasses. Dr. Ayers was very good with my son and the staff helped him to embrace wearing glasses by reassuring him how much better he would be able to see. They helped make the experience very positive when it could have been a negative one for my reluctant son. Later we needed a very quick turn around on sports glasses for my son and the staff once again was polite and accomodating when we requested a copy of my son's prescription. We couldn't be happier with the service we have received.

It has been a while since my experience but it popped in my mind again and I decided to come here to write a review. I felt the Dr (Arey) was rushing me during my exam. Also, there was another patient he was helping at the same time running back and forth between me and them. This was offensive to me. I am paying for a quality exam, the least I could get is a good 10-15 minutes of undivided attention. After I left and received my contacts the prescription was incorrect. He lowered the power by over 1.25. Driving I could not see road signs till I was very close. I went back for a recheck and I felt that I got attitude. Bottom line, my point is go eleswhere and save money you will get just as good of an exam from Wal*Mart or another chain. I thought I would get a better quality exam going to a private eye care facility, I was sure wrong about that.

I appreciate all communication (even negative). I apologize if I was rushed on the day you saw me. That is not the impression I would like my patients to have. Everybody has days where schedules don't go exactly as we like, including me. I would invite you to contact me as I am open to constructive criticism and I do care. Usually we try to schedule for effeciency and quality time with each patient, but on some days there are eye emergencies or urgent issues that pop up in the schedule that need prompt attention. I apologize again for sharing some of your time with whoever it was that I was helping at the moment. In order to properly explain the contact lens issue, I would need to know who you are to review the situation. I would be more than happy to explain the power change if I can review your chart. In regards to the attitude, I humbly apologize if I gave that impression. Thanks for your input and I will try to keep your comments in mind as I go forward. I hope to receive a call from you soon. If I am with patients, please leave a message with my staff and I will return the call as soon as I can. Ph#678-393-2025 Sincerely, Dr. Tommy Arey
I have been impressed by the high level of professionalism and customer service from everyone at Winward Eye Care over the last four years. My wife and I completely trust Dr. Arey with our vision needs. Given that we use both glasses and contacts, we have a lot of experience with the office and its capabilities. I genuinely appreciate the service we've received, for routine and emergency needs. The office staff has been quite helpful in scheduling visits and ordering contacts for us. Would I recommend them to a friend or neighbor? Without reservation, YES!

At first when I walked in, I felt like it was a very warm atmosphere with alot of charm. Everything from the front desk to doctors was everything I had hoped. The front desk was very helpful with getting my insurance information. The atmosphere is cool too with an incredible fish tank. Even the puffer fish seems friendly at this office. The music is a wide variety. I didn't feel pressured to get glasses like at other places. They were more than happy to educate me on the benefits of certain upgrades on lens options, but I never felt pressured, just educated. You got me for good.

I received a prescription for eyeglasses and a second for glasses. However the staff became very aggressive when I stated that I wanted to purchase contacts from another provider. Prior to talking about contact lenses, the staff was very courteous and helpful. However, once I stated that I wanted to order contacts elsewhere, their demeanor change dramatically. Two different staff member became very insulting and made several comments such as "the doctor deserves to be paid for his time", and "he is entitled to make a profit". All of this after I paid over $300.00 for the glasses, exam and a contact lens fitting fee. The staff felt that I was somehow not paying enough and finally told me that "the doctor doesn't do anything for free". When I returned to pick up my eyeglasses, the prescription was incorrect. The glasses only partially correct my vision, and I am still using an old pair of glasses for most of my tasks. The new glasses are unusable for driving and work in the office. I'm out $300.00 and still have no eyeglasses. ****UPDATE**** Dr. Arey - your reponse is a complete mischaracterization of what took place in your office. After I received my prescription for contacts and was about to pay for my visit, your staff member told me that I would have to pay for contacts. I said I only wanted to pay for the glasses and office visit. She stood up and grabbed the prescription out of my hand. Your staff was rude from the moment I said I didn't want contacts.

I am sorry that you had a negative experience. We do care about our patients. As owners, your satisfaction does impact our livelihood. I'm happy to remedy the problem when offered the opportunity. As I said with you by phone, you are more than welcome to return for a recheck of your glasses at no charge. Your glasses are determined by your responses during the refraction portion of your exam. If you feel like you were rushed or didn't feel comfortable with some of your responses, please get it rechecked. As for the rude office staff, I wasn't there to witness the events that took place. I have heard both sides and realize that there is a misunderstanding that took place. It is my understanding that on your initial visit you wanted your contact lens prescription but didn't want to have to pay for the contact lens exam. Office staff and patients indicated to me that you were very public with your disatisfaction at the front desk. If the staff did say the doctor "is entitled to make a profit", I would consider that an inappropriate statement and will address that with them. I would agree that the doctor does deserve to be paid for his time as does any health professional. I think the misunderstanding is that you thought the office staff was offended that you wanted to order your contacts elsewhere.I don't think that is accurate. I believe that the office staff was possibly on the defense when you stated that you wanted your contact prescription but didn't want to pay for the contact lens exam portion and stated that we were "scamming" you. It is their job to be courteous during good and bad experiences and I will address that with them. However, I think they felt that their employer was being insulted by the scamming comment. They love where they work and who they work for. They respect us as their employer and felt that the "scamming" comment in front of patients was a personal attack on their employer and was very insulting to our character. They know the owners' characters and know that we do not represent the scamming type personality. They do make my life easier and I respect the demands they have in their job day to day. I will discuss better ways of handling confrontational situations, but I appreciate them very much and know that they do their best to represent our level of care that we ask of them. In summary, I don't want to play the blame game and build our case. I would prefer to build a bridge to a better relationship if you will accept the opportunity. However, you have to allow me to build that bridge. Again, please feel free to have your glasses rechecked at no charge if you feel you are not seeing well. As for reviewers reading this, please understand that there are two sides to each story and we would like the opportunity to impress you. If we don't impress you, let me know personally so that I can fix the problem if one arises. I do care.
The staff appears professional and they seem sincere, but I'm not sure the quality of their frames is all that great. Both my husband and I bought a pair of glasses from them and the finish starting popping off of them within a year. It took about 2 months to get a set of replacement frames from them. My husband hasn't even tried.

Thank you for your feedback. I do appreciate our office staff. As for the frames, I don't know who you are or what brand you picked out, but I as an owner would like to hear about your experience if you will contact me. We do offer several vendors from high end designer frames to budget discontinued frames. We prefer to work with reputable vendors who offer quality products. We would appreciate your reply to us so that we can either have the vendor stand behind their product or stop using that vendor if there is a negative experience associated with it. If the vendor doesn't stand behind the product, then perhaps we can see about exchanging to a different frame. I look forward to working with you. Thanks, Dr. Arey, owner
The staff is always prompt and professional during my eye glasses selection. Even after the final bill was paid, they've adjusted my glasses without hassle. The doctors are very knowledgeable and friendly.
