Belle Ferry Veterinary Hospital scares me!
When I moved into the area 9 years ago I was excited to live close to a veterinary clinic with a reputation for their care of wildlife and exotic animals.
I soon had an inside look at what was going on behind closed doors.
Though BFVC is licensed to take in wildlife, they should not. The clinic may be licensed but the staff is not. They take in wildlife only to let them sit in cages for hours without any care. Baby animals must be fed consistently, with birds needing feeding every 15 to 30 minutes. Many of the animals they take in sit in the same box they were brought in all day and die of hypoglycemia. I don't think a person who took the time to rescue an orphaned animal and drive them to BFVC would have done that if they knew what their fate would be. Many times if BFVC can not find a wildlife rehabilitator to take the animal(s) by the end of the day they euthanise them. This is because they are NOT trained or licensed to take them home. The public should be referred to other wildlife facilities in the area that actually will care for the animals
Beware pet owners as well- I have also witnessed abuse of people's pets at the hands of the kennel and nursing staff at BFVC. I witnessed an animal smacked in the face, animals being pulled by their ears, and manhandled in the treatment area. I will be interested in seeing BFVC talk in circles to defend this review.

OKAY but won't return
Okay Vets, but I won't return. I had first become a client of theres a few years ago. I loved the Vet that helped us.then. It seems that things have changed: pricing has risen, and the service has declined. We asked for annual vaccinations and preventatives only to be contacted a few weeks later for "booster" shots on the vaccinations we were told were annual. It shouldn't cost close to $175 to get basic annual vaccinations on a dog (no other services performed - have the bills showing such).

Clean Vet office and would trust my animal's safety with them, but price increase, and not the most personable staff.

most caring vets and staff
I had a terrible experience with a different animal hospital over 20 years ago. I began taking my pets to Bell's Ferry and have always been confident of their superlative and compassionate care. They have been with my husband and I through the loss of 2 beloved dogs and give excellent care to our current dog and the rest of our menagerie! Would recommend them to anyone (and do)!

Do NOT bring rescue birds here!!
FACT: It is NOT illegal to keep common English sparrows or Starlings in GA. They are "nuisance birds" and are not under any Federal/State protection. No license is required! We took in our two sparrows, one who simply needed some antibiotics. We were told that she could be rehabbed and released back into the wild. That sounded great! At their insistence we took both birds in even thought Flippie had a deformed leg and could NOT be released. We were going to keep him in our home. We got there and they had a form for us to fill out, presumably so they could treat Flicka for her lungs. After intake information our babies were wisked away to the back. A vet came in and told us that our birds were in very bad shape and they would both have to be destroyed. (They were developing age appropriately & eating well) She refused to return our birds to us evey when my husband & I protested that we never signed a release for both, just Flicka. Someone had altered our form to include both birds after we signed it. The vet claimed she could lose her license. Actually she was violating the law by NOT returning them. She euthanized our healthy pet birds without our consent! If you rescue any non-protected birds in GA do not go here! Go online, there's a huge community of vets and owners to help you. I hope this helps you avoid our heartache.

Our hospital has cared for the community's wildlife since 1982. We offer this service at no charge as a way to give back and because we are one of the few hospitals with the expanded knowledge to care for birds, small mammals, amphibians, reptiles and the like. Wildlife brought to us is immediately examined for sustainability in the wild and chances of recovery. Many of the animals we see can be released to a licensed rehabilitator and later released back to its natural environment. Unfortunately, some have sustained damage that precludes their release. We never recommend keeping any severely injured (as in this case) or healthy wildlife as a pet. It is illegal in most cases and in the rare instances where it is not prohibited by law it is considered at the very least inappropriate and unfortunate for the animal. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has always supported this position as well.

Expensive
Care is good but expensive. Run charges up like your bank account is theirs. Every thing costs something. Had been a customer of 12 years finally left because felt like they ran over priced tests more than required. Don't get me wrong, the vets and front staff are excellent. Just the new office ownership/management doesn't seem interested in balancing the ultimate cost versus the required care ratio needed. They used to be the best place around. Sorry to have seen the "human medicine" money attitude creep into their office practices.

Patient care is always our primary concern. This is evidenced not only by our well-trained, caring staff (made up in part by registered technicians with advanced training in monitoring and caring for a variety of species) but by our state-of-the-art facility as well. We regret as much as anyone that with the privilege of offering this advanced care for your pets, comes an increase in cost on occasion. No, we will never be a “low cost – low service” type of hospital, but we do understand the increased financial demands on families today. That is why we always offer multiple treatment options, payment plans and CareCredit. Also, though our owners may seem new, they’ve actually been practicing at and managing our hospital for 10 years. Thank you for your review. We take all constructive reviews seriously and hope to learn from each one.

excellent vet service.
Bells Ferry vet center has a very nice staff as well as boarding staff, and grooming staff. over the years, I have used 2 of their vets, and boarding, grooming services. they are the best in the area, and the vets know their stuff. I would say this is the best vet center in this area, and maybe all of Atlanta.

A Kind and Caring Environment
As soon as I walked in I was greated with a friendly smile. I immediatley noticed that it did not smell like a vet office at all! The counters were so clean I could eat off of them. The staff was so kind and caring. The doctors spoke to me like a friend but were still so professional. They spoke so I could understand everything (but didn't make me feel like an idiot!). All together the experience was wonderful and I would HIGHLY recommend this hospital to anyone who wants top of the line care for their pets.

Love them!!
I have been taking my dogs there for a few years after bad experince before with vet care. I have two Shih Tzu's and a yorkie mix. This years yearly visit I was introduced to the new groomer Danielle who is GREAT!!! After being greeted as walking through the door by a wonderful front desk team (who all are very nice and professional in there matching scrubs) I signed in and waited very briefly in lobby when a lady walking toward me introducing herself. " Hi, my name is Danielle, I am the new groomer here". She sat and spoke with me and touched base about grooming etc and said hello to all three of my pets. WOW very impressing. The front desk staff placed me in exam room and had me start a touch screen history form on the computer in the exam room, also with show how videos and facts. Very neat and educating. The doggie nurse was in shortly and was nice and knowledgeable. Then Dr. Rittle came in spoke to my babies introduced herself and was very professional and caring about everything and she answered all of my questions. Then after checking out I scheduled my grooming appointment for the very next week and Danielle did a WONDERFUL job with all three and what you get for the price is awesome. I love going there!!

Not only am I confident that my pets get the best care available, but the staff is extremely knowledgeable and curteous. They offer a personal touch and most importantly, I trust them completely with the welfare of my pets. I will continue to use Bells Ferry and recommend anyone that wishes the best for their pet to use them as well.
