With more than a decade in the courtroom?first successfully prosecuting criminals and now successfully defending clients in a broad range of civil and criminal matters?Shep brings his clients not only hard-hitting experience but also litigation savvy and determination.
For example, Shep recently defended a national motel chain against a $64 million premises liability lawsuit brought by a man who claimed traumatic brain injury. Shep successfully argued the motel's limited liability for the accident. He fights for his clients? rights just as hard as he did for people?s rights as a prosecutor.
He now practices civil and criminal defense as well as a variety of other litigation areas. He has successfully defended municipal employers in civil rights and wrongful termination cases, has won criminal trials and personal injury actions and has worked with health care, corporate, and municipal clients.
Shep holds a degree in history from Duke University and law degree from the Emory University School of Law. Shep is a former faculty member of the Virginia Beach Police Academy and has given lectures on drug interdiction and search and seizure. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Art & Co, a division of the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia and a member of the Virginia Beach Foundation.
