I have a 2004 9-3 convertible and needed to have my first bow hydraulic cylinder replaced. Anyone who has a hydraulic convertible top knows how expensive this can be, especially because there are typically seven cylinders that will eventually have to be replaced. I did some research and found a company online Top Hydraulics - who rebuilds hydraulic cylinders for around 200.00 each. I was quoted just under $1000 from Sovereign Motors for one new hydraulic cylinder from the dealership costing around $630 and the remaining $369.99 would be labor charges. They have been in business for 20 plus years and never heard of hydraulic cylinders being rebuilt. On a friend's recommendation I called Shelly at S & J Automotive and told her what I needed and she suggested I come by there, let them have a look at it, she also told me there was a company who rebuilds convertible top hydraulic cylinders for a fraction of the cost. Her telling me that information alone gave me a good insight as to what kind of person she was - informed and forthright. All in all I paid $427.00. Parts - Top Hydraulics rebuilt first bow cylinder plus shipping $217 and $210 in labor with S & J Automotive, which included taking the cylinder off and putting the top back up (in case it rained), installing the new cylinder & adding hydraulic fluid. I saved almost $600 because of Shelly's honesty & knowledge. There's a reason they have so many customers..probably because they've earned it by doing good business.

If you love your Saab, value your time and money, and need real expert advice, S&J Automotive is the best! My husband and I purchased a 2000 9-5 Saab last summer after owning nothing but American made vehicles. The first 6 months we had issue after issue only to find out it was the mechanic! He was great for the other cars we owned in the past, but his lack of knowledge about Saabs was literally KILLING my pockets. I finally got fed up with the old mechanic when we purchased a 2nd Saab (2001 9-3) and the engine blew within 2 days of purchase. Our regular guy had the newer Saab for 2 weeks and had one suggestion: Scrap It! We towed the car to S&J where Shelly and her family of experts took excellent care of BOTH cars. She gives clear cut advice, explains in details what can be done, and doesnt b.s. about prices. If she can save you money by telling you how to fix it yourself she surely will show you. I appreciate their honesty and wouldnt take my 2 Saabs any where else.

We took my husband's 9-3 2001 Saab to S&J after it broke down. We were told that it would be fixed for about $800 and we told them to go ahead and fix it. When we picked up the car it came in just under $800 so we paid them and my husband drove the car to work. On my husband's way home from work, on the very same day he picked it up, the car broke down and we had Northside Towing pick it up and take it back to S&J's so they could fix it. We called S&J numerous times and asked to talk to Jack, the owner, to see about fixing it and he refused to return our call until over a week later and when we did talk he said he would be willing to fix it and it would probably cost about $1700 dollars! If you deal with these people do not expect them to stand behind their work. I would recommend not dealing with J&S if you value your money and want to keep your car running well. I was seriously disappointed with the service I received and with the people who work there.

I am sure that they used to be better. But now with the SAAB economy downfall they don't seem to have the methodology or have the techs needed to ensure quality. Family owned, passion for SAAB, but poor communication and very poor quality control. I brought my car there for one thing, and ended up with another problem....after one week of 'we've got bad news' and ' we've never seen this before'. Ended up back at the SAAB dealer for...400 dollars cheaper. Maybe we both were out of luck, but beware....and sign your work order approval. Nice folks, good will, but still hackers...

They know Saabs and are very reasonably priced. I had a lot of work done to my car- and am very happy with the outcome. They took the time to explain things to me - and have taught me things about my car that have been priceless. Thanks S&J.

Overall, Shelly and Theresa do not communicate with each other. Shelly is not upfront on costs. She is very friendly in the beginning, but that is only a cover which erodes quickly. Overall, do not take your car here. They also continue to say "use 93 octane" gas which may or not be true and useful, but I heard you the first time.

I have (recently, had) a 1993 saab aero which i dearly loved... S&J was so awesome with explaining EVERYTHING in layman terms to me, and even the pricing was pretty reasonable.

I took my car in for a simple oil change which should have only taken 30 minutes but it ended up taking almost two hours. I also asked them for a quote for a part that I had been told earlier by another mechanic needed replacing and then the fun started. First off there quote was over $150 more than the other specialist for the same job and I found it very strange that once I mentioned the potential repair my car decided to brake while in their shop. They tried to charge me $500 for a part to make my car run again. It ran fine when I drove it into the shop and was broke when I tried to leave. I would never recommend these guys they are crooks.

went there for years. high turnover of mechanics have made it go from the best to unreliable. Had to have a new clutch. After getting my car back, the clutch went out just 2 days later. Okay, they came & got me. Got the car back to their shop. They apologized for their mistake - they'd left something off - and fixed it again. Only to have another problem with the same repair less than a week later. Still, they fixed it again and again were apologetic for the problem. My other gripe with them is slow service. When they it'll be done in a day - count on 2-3 days.

I had a terrible experience with the SAAB dealer in Atlanta, and S&J was recommended by a friend. Their service was great and the staff was very friendly. Their oil change includes a complete check-up of your car for a reasonable price. They'll even drive you back to work/home if the car is going to be a while.

I can't imagine taking my Saab to anyone but Jack and John and the team at S&J. These guys are straight shooters committed to getting it right the first time at a fair price.
