I really like this gym. I don't understand any of the hate floating around because I joined during college, cancelled my membership, moved back here earlier this year, and renewed my membership...... all with no hassle or problem or any of these supposed hidden fees. But enough negativity, the gym is always clean. The staff are super-friendly. The boot camp thing they do is extra charge (but an amazing workout) and all the other classes are free. Also I joined with my girlfriend and we got a couple discount that I think you can get with even just a roommate.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »

I initially joined this gym because they offer month to month memberships whereas most gyms require a one year contract. After being a loyal member for almost a year, I started grad school and I decided to just go to the gym on campus. I specifically told a staff member to cancel my membership. Well to my surprise, they kept on billing me for the next two months. I can see why some people don't believe us. It is a fairly nice gym. To all the people who don't believe us, wait till you try to cancel your membership. They don't try to screw you over until AFTER you've left.

I don't know who is writing negative reviews about this gym but they're crazy. I live between New York and New Orleans and have been to A LOT of gyms and this is by far the best. The price is right, the facilities are clean and the staff is incredibly friendly. The class variety is unlike any other gym in New Orleans - there are so many different Cardio classes that you can take advantage of - Hip Hop Dance, Kick Boxing, Circuit Training, Spin, and more which are all INCLUDED in your already inexpensive membership. I've been working with a personal trainer and have lost almost 40 pounds in three months which is all because of her and the motivation that I receive from the people at the gym. I looked at multiple other gyms and this is by far the best. If you're shopping around, DON'T. Just got to St. Charles Avenue Athletic Club - you won't regret it. There is so much offered it's hard not to want to get in shape.

First i want to say that whoever writes those negetive nasty reviews most likeley have some personal agenda.\rI am a teacher with TEACH FOR AMERICA who shoped around for a gym in the area and had the St. Charles Ave. Athltic Club very last one on my list (thanks to the bad reviews). Well to my surprise it surpassed all of my expectations. Not only the facility is grate the energy there is that of WORK OUT!!!!! Because i am a teacher i got a discount as well!!! Can't beat it, belive me i did the shoping for you!!!

I have been a member at St Charles ave. athletic club for years and never have i ran in to anything even remotely close to what some of you writing on here. They have very flexible policies and maybe some of you on here taken advantage of them? As far as the equipment in my opinion they have the best variety of free weights and machines, dumbells go up to 200lbs, I think that would satisfy any lifter. Also the newly added powerlifting room is off the hook!!! What gym in town offers free quality classes, like an hour and a half yoga/pilates class wich i just adore. So my theory is that maybe it is you who screwed up and not them... \rOnce again i have been coming to the place for years and i love it, will strongly recomend it and stand behind my word!!!

I joined St. Charles Avenue Athletic Club on a month-by-month basis & authorized them to directly charge my Chase credit card monthly. About a month before moving from the neighborhood, I asked to cancel my membership. The staff at the front desk told me he would cancel the membership effective the end of that month. When I asked if I could do something in writing, he told me no, it was already taken care of. For the past three months, they have repeatedly told me that it is going to be taken care of. But each month I get charged. I contacted Chase, which is disputing the charges, and ultimately alerted the Better Business Bureau. I called SCAAC to warn them about the report to the BBB, and was offered 1/2 of my money back for the past three months, after I had already cancelled. They don't deserve a cent of that money or yours! Pay a little more for one of the newer gyms on Magazine Street, and save yourself the hassle!

The facility is decent and is adequately equipped and they offer free classes such as spinning and yoga. Some of the staff at the front desk were a bit on the snotty side but the trainers and class instructors (ie Erica, Mike, Helen, Tanzy, etc) were friendly and helpful. However, I do NOT recommend this gym because the owner is greedy and dishonest. I personally asked the owner to cancel my membership and he smiled and appeared to oblige. I watched as he pull up my record on the computer and then he clicked his mouse a couple of times and said, ""okay it's done."" I asked him when the cancellation would be effective and he specifically said June 12. Then I notice two months later that he was STILL billing me! I called the gym and explained the situation to the staff member who answered the phone. At first I was thinking it was just a silly mistake. The employee went to talk to the owner and relayed the message to me, which was, ""He says that you told him you were thinking about canceling your membership but you weren't sure."" That is COMPLETE BS. I clearly told him I wanted to cancel my membership and he even verbally told me the date that my cancellation would take effect (June 12). He KNEW that I canceled my membership and he continued to bill me and he made up that stupid LIE to cover his tracks. Please do NOT support DISHONEST business owners. And Claire87, you seem to have some reading comprehension problems. Anne8 did not say she was taking antidepressants. She said it was either antidepressants or the gym and she obviously chose the gym. And even if she was taking antidepressants you shouldn't be using that against. her. Way to go for discriminating against people who are (allegedly or truly) mentally ill. Edited to add:Lol, I was just scrolling down to read the rest of the review and I discovered that one of my ex-roommates also wrote a review complaining about the EXACT same thing! I was surprised yet not surprised. What does THAT tell you about this es

In general, I had a great experience with this gym. The facilities were exceptional and the staff were friendly overall. The amentities were a bonus. Unfortunately, I believe that this is a discriminatory club. \r

I was a member of this gym for about a year. I liked their late hours and found the staff very friendly. But then I left, to go to another gym that's closer to my apartment (NOAC). Another friend of mine also left St. Charles to go to NOAC, and they kept billing his card for several months even after telling him they'd canceled his membership. When he tried to talk about this with the owner, the owner was rude and completely unhelpful. It seems this is common practice based on the other reviews here, so even though my experience there was mostly good, I'll never consider going back.

Pros: I love this gym because it's in a great location, a short 3 minute ride from where I live. They have a ladies-only area, there's a tanning salon next door, they have a great towel service that are always fluffy, warm and smell great; they have a special rate for couples, and the treadmills have their own TV set in the screen. Cons: the staff and the manager are not the most friendly people in the world, but it's not like I care that much. In other gym's I've been I've had my metabolism test and routine given for free, but they don't offer that. Their metabolism test is $65 and each training session is $40. I just prefer to not pay that, and follow the routine I had in my previous gym. They close early in the weekends, and I do most of my workout at night.

Its is terrible to hear this things about a place that is close to me and not to be able to go /due the bad reviews.

Do not listen to Anna8. She obviously has psycological issues considering she is taking anti-depressants. I have been a member at this gym for years and the staff and management are AWESOME. The gym is IMPECCABLE. Do not take advice from one person who clearly has an issue. Go to the gym itself and I GUARANTEE you will LOVE it. I have never had any problems here and the RATES are UNBEATABLE.

I've been a member of this gym since November 2008. Let me tell you something, people: it is really up to y'all to get your behinds to a gym and work out because at least 50% of your success is your own commitment. However, while you are making progress and enjoy being a gym member, someone helps himself to your credit card...\r\rI went to this gym because for me it was either anti-depressants or a healthier way - workout. The workout helped me a lot. My personal trainer, the woman with a body that shows what you can look like if you truly commit to workout, is amazing and her co-workers are very friendly and inspiring and also professionally looking . Well... here comes the only CON: the owner/manager, is rather difficult to deal with because he makes you feel like all he cares about is your money. It's like he's judging people on basis how much they are worth to him... Or was it just me, was i being treated different? That's unfair and hence wrong! Of course, he's a businessman, but before you get your money out of people, you better show them some love. It's a simple #1 customer service rule, isn't it? I have been in service industry for a while and have been officially recognized for excellent customer service skills, so i know! He seems to make prices and rules about the gym classes and etc. right from the ceiling... And here is why i feel this way:\r\rAfter my first personal training package was about to end, he called me personally on A SUNDAY morning saying that I owed him money!!! It was a mistake and NOBODY does business on Sundays! This is people's personal time with families, church, etc. I found that to be extremely unprofessional and simply unpleasant. But i decided to forget it and continue enjoying working out with my trainer and on my own. People come to the gym to feel at peace and that's what i felt... for a little while. Here's why again:\r\rMy personal training package usually consisted of 6 sessions plus 1 free session, so 7 total. I usually

Being new in town, I tried St.Charles Ave. Athletic Club, because it's close to where I live.I must admit that I was put off by the negative reviews, but I also like to think & develope my own feelings about this gym .Based on my one-day visit,I'll definitely get a membership here.Oh by the way, I'll be training with the""Elderly Bullying Trainer."" maybe I'LL look like her after a year's worth of training!!!!
