STAY AWAY - they rip you off, 9/07/2013

They charged me $512 for a single visit with 2 rabbits WITHOUT ANY HEADS-UP – and they most definitely did NOT provide $512 worth of services. I was sick to my stomach when I left. VCA Fox Chapel is... a rip off and they provide a disservice to animals and pet owners. After seeing the breakdown of the bill, I could’t believe how much they charged. The one rabbit is (per statement vet) not going to get better. Yet, he still drew blood and several yelled codes to the techs. He also drew blood from the other bunny and yelled similar codes to the back. Turns out each of these “codes” he yelled back was a blood test for which they charged about $60 a piece. The one bunny also got 2 injections: 0.3 ml of PenG was $41.72 (mind the fact that I have this bottle of PenG at home because the vet put the other bunny on this medication weeks ago, so he should/ could have remembered that and just let me give the injection at home if that’s what they charge for this! And the whole 100 ml bottle was about $8 at the store) and 0.1 ml (yes, a tiny tiny amount) of Metacam for $43.34. The base consultation is $77 for a bunny. When the check-out lady saw how flabbergasted I was, she asked if I told the vet I had money trouble. Money trouble? Because I’m not prepared to pay $512 for a single visit?

Great vets !, 12/07/2007

I love all of the vets at VCA Fox Chapel ! I have been a client for the last few years and I am very lcuky to have them as my doctors. When my cat was really sick Dr. Resek nursed her back to... health. You can tell that she is very compassionate about her job. She kept me well informed and was just great. In follow-up care I have had Dr. Breneman and Dr. Uhl and they have also been wonderful ! I just can't thank them enough !!

The vet I need to see is is never available.

I have had at least 2 places recommend taking my pet ferrets here, but now that I'm having an emergency, I found out that the doctor I need to see in only in on thursdays and for 2 hours on mondays. I needed him on I tried to take my ferret there on a friday. My ferrets started going downhill very fast, and the will not live long enough to see the vet on thursday. (I have taken my pets to other offices, but they don't know what is wrong with them.)

Excellent h professional care for pets

In looking for the hospital's phone number online, I came across this site and happened to notice a negative review, which I felt necessitated a response. I've used this practice for two dogs since the mid 80s and have ZERO complaints. They are extremely professional, friendly to pets, and excellent at diagnosing, treating a myriad of health conditions for pets. As you can see, I'm using my full name in order to add veracity to this review.

Not a very good place to take your animals

I Would suggest pet owners do NOT take your pets to this place.

Fox Chapel Veterinary Hospital (vca)

Dr. Murphy is my hero . . . he helped me keep my sweet kitty alive almost 22 yrs. One of the younger female vets also assisted me. She taught me a procedure to do at home to keep my kitty comfortable and help maintain a good quality of life. Dr. Murphy makes suggestions that he would do or not do with his own cats (he has a few of his own). He is caring and loving, and has wonder bedside manners. You can see his compassion. I had another cat that had a very strange form of cancer, a double lung cancer - it stumped him. He asked if I minded if he took the x rays to a specialist to confer with them on a diagnosis.\rHe maintains if your animal has a quality of life and we can make sure they are comfortable there is no need to put them to sleep. He gives you his heartfelt advice, but leaves it to you to decide. He also will not put the animal through an invasive test if it will bear information, but nothing can be done about it. He will help you decide the best thing for your animal - operative words ""he will help YOU DECIDE"". He will not give you animal unnecessary shots if the animal is older and not an outside cat - he doesn't do things just for the money. The other vets have always pleased me when Dr. Murphy was not available - so I highly recommend this vet. Prices are higher - but quality is there. Staff finds answers for you . . .will call back if they find out additional information for you. They have always shown me they care.

Great vet !

I have to say that Dr. Amanda Resek is one of the best veterinarinas I have ever come across. After spending time in multiple cities I am always anxious when I have to find a new veterinarian. She is pleasant, informative and just great, great, great !!!! My dog never wants to leave !!!!!!!

Comforting and caring

The doctors and staff were absolutely wonderful when the time came for me to put down one of my cats who suffered from cancer. From the moment I arrived at the office, everyone greeted me with compassion and respect for my feelings. Despite the sad reason for my visit that day, I great appreciate all of the love and support I received from everyone at VCA. Thanks again, as your kindness is greatly appreciated.

Highly Recommend

After having read these reviews I feel it necessary to write my own...I have been taking my animals (dogs, cats, birds and even my turtle) for maybe 20 years. I agree the receptionists as a group aren't especially friendly, but they get the job done and I don't go there to see them. I have visited Dr's Murphy, Miggins and Wagner and can't say enough positive things about each of them. If my pet needs medical care he/she gets it, if I have a question they answer it and I've never been steered wrong. Of course -- like when we visit human doctors it helps to do your homework and be able to discuss any issues at least somewhat intelligently so you (the patient) can make an informed decision. I have been treated very well by the doctors here in many types of pet situations over the years...and for that, I am thankful they are there.

Avoid VCA Fox Chapel Clinic

After 2.5 years, and over $2000 dollars spent, $1000 within 8 months on a 12 lb Cairn Terrier rescue, I found VCA Fox Chapel's customer service to go down and their prices to go up! Specifically, in 11/09, my rescue needed dental work. Without question, I paid appox. $700. Just 2 weeks ago (the end of March 2010), I noticed a horrible odor and a growth on his gum as well as hearing him up at night. I scheduled a re-visit. OK, re-visit scheduled for detal noted and confirmed by the desk. I get there, Dr. Murphy said oh..yes there is an infection, we'll put him on antibiotics. Then he has me feel my dogs chest for a couple of lumps that he wants to run a Cytology, fine...all checked out clear. I waited forever at the desk to check out due to a new computer code system. By the time I received the bill, I did not have time to examine it since it was hot and my dogs were in the car. Of the $169 tab, although all other tests were negative and not what I brought the dog in for....I
