There's a reason this place has poor ratings, 1/09/2012

My camera needed cleaning and I took it to this shop. Unfortunately I did not research it first (Boo on me!). After paying the $40 diagnostic fee, I was later informed that my camera would be... cleaned and that my lens needed ""recalibration"". I picked up the camera after a $200 bill and got a new lens cap, as they had lost mine. I left and took 6 photos when it totally shut down. I called and was told it was a battery issue. I took out the current battery, and to mu surprise, they had replaced my Canon battery with a generic battery. I put in an extra Canon battery and charged the generic...nothing helped. I called again, as I was leaving for vacation. I left several messages and e-mails with no response. I went back to get the camera repaired and told them my vacations as ruined and now my camera was broken, as well as missing the ORIGINAL parts. I was offered a repair and NO refund of the original repair. I was told they ""don't do that kind of thing"" because they are ""good at what they do"". There is a reason this place is poorly reviewed. They offer poor service, poor customer service, and I question the integrity of a repair shop that removes the name brand accessories and replaces them with generic. Just to be clear, my camera was working when it went in, and now it is broken. This company made NO attempt to make me happy, other than to stand by their ""repair"". Do not visit this business. My next step is to report it to the Better Business Bureau.

Well, I got played and it's completely my own fault

CAMERA REPAIR SERVICE INC PRE-DIAGNOSTIC FEE ESTIMATE.TO REPAIR A NON-ELECTRICAL PLASTIC PART ON YOUR CAMERA IT WILL LIKELY COST YOU GREATER THAN $70.00.A non-electrical piece of plastic which holds the camera door closed was broken on my camera. Naturally, any reasonable person would prefer their camera not to have this issue, but it had no impact on the camera's ability to function nor on the quality of the pictures. It is important to note that I resolved the problem by putting a piece of tape over the battery door, a solution I would have been perfectly satisfied with. For a reasonable fee, I decided I would be happier with a proper repair. Because I would prefer the repair, I decided to check into how much it would cost to have the repair done.Subsequently, I brought the camera to Camera Repair Svc. Inc. with the intention of determining how much it would cost to repair the issue and to repair the issue if the price was reasonable. To diagnose the issue, Camera Repair Svc., Inc. quoted me a $40.00 non-refundable diagnostic fee. The fee seemed excessive so I was hesitant to engage with them. When I expressed concern with the amount of the fee, I was told expressly, ""the fee would be applied to the repair"" and ""the repair shouldn't be more than that."" I was also told that ""they would sell me a charger for $30.00"" and that they would ""call me the following day"" to let me know what the technician thought about the issue. Before I paid and as I was pulling out my card, I again hesitated, mentioning that I could solve the problem with a piece of tape. The male store employee said, ""no -- you need to have it repaired."" Upon my own choice, I signed the agreement and proceeded with the repair. The following day, I received a phone call -- (1) they had no charger to test the camera they were repairing to see if the repair was successful; (2) b/c they had no charger to test the camera, they certainly had no charger to sell me as they had stated; (3) t

DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST!

I called this company in an attempt to get my camera repaired and the lady on the phone was 100% combative towards me. I told her specifically what i wanted done; one non-electric part needed replaced and I was even prepared to buy it from the manufacturer, Nikon. All I wanted was for them to install it. She kept insisting on a ""Drop it off - so we can give you a $40 estimate fee"" approach. She did not even appreciate my telling her that I was OK with the fee, but even if it needs something else in their opinion, the focus lens was ONLY what I wanted them to replace. She also refused to even ask a technician if they had the part in their stock. My opinion is that this company does NOT like an educated consumer and thrives on 90% mark-ups and fees while your camera waits in a pile. It is not my opinion that this review should reflect on the quality of their technicians but instead is a reflection of a laggard and outdated business practice. I strongly suggest going to Bernies, YM, or Ritz for guidance first, find the price of the part on the web, and only then do business with Camera Repair Service.

Awful company and customer service!!

My Nikon d40x had a shutter error and would not work, I took it to camera repair to be fixed before my vacation to the carribean, they charged me $272 to fix it. Once I got on vacation I took only 3 photos before the SAME error came up again, I have no photos to show from my vacation. when I took it back to them to be fixed again they fixed it but refused to offer me any type of compensation for my troubles. I just picked it up after the second repair and once I got home I snapped off a few test shots, sure enough after only 3 photos again I got the SAME shutter error. Now I have to drive back downtown again today. I will never use this company again.

Bad Business

I agree 100% with the 3 out of 4 bad reviews. I was charged to look at my video camera in which the tape door wouldn't stay closed. He claimed he fixed it in which the total cost was $240. I used the camera and immediately after changing tapes it wouldn't stay closed again. The second time he claimed he fixed it. I used the camera again and once again after changing a tape it wouldn't sray closed. I took it back to him and he rudely told me that he would have to charge me another $40 to just see whats wrong with it. And did I mention rude as he was closing early and didn't have time to discuss it unless I was going to leave the camera.

Rude, unhelpful, would not trust them at all

I went into this place with a simple and straightforward repair to my Canon 40D. The metal of the flash housing was slightly bent and needed to be bent back. The guy behind the counter first says ""sure, we can fix that"". Seems like a good start... but then I was completely and rudely stonewalled by any followup questions. Basically they won't even talk to you before you give them $40, and I wasn't going to do that for a straightforward repair. I can understand a ""diagnostic fee"" for a more complicated problem, but this was a bent piece of metal that I could actually fix myself (and just might), which I told him. Any further attempt at talking to this guy was met with the response ""that's our fee"". Sorry, but I'd assume you want my business, especially as a first time customer with 8+ cameras. But I guess not. In my book any repair shop that is unhelpful and wants money before even giving you the time of day is likely going to screw you over ten different ways before the end. Stay away from these guys!

best camera repairs and camera options, great service

I brought my Nikon D80 into the store for a censor cleaning a few months ago and was highly impressed with their efficiency in turnaround time as well quality of the repair. Even the pricing was excellent, I thought my camera would never produce the same images again, but it's been working fine for several months and they also provided me with an in-house warranty that assured me of their excellence in service.

Inept and abusive camera service

Unhelpful. Rude. Condescending. Fraudulent. I have others, but don't take my word. Check out the number of negative feedback entries they have on eBay. They swindle ... er 'trade' under eBay user ID 'camerarep'.
