Wonderful experience
I recently adopted a dog from Atlanta Pet Rescue and Adoption. They were terrific. The staff (volunteers) were attentive and informative. They helped me consider which pet would be "best" for me. Although the adoption fee is a little high, I think it's a bargain when you consider all the care (both medical and emotional) they give to all of the dogs. I would recommend them to anyone who's looking for a pet.

They told me to skip school!
My mom had been watching this certain dog for 3 months! She had sent them email after email asking for updates on her condition, due to the fact that it was suspected she had femural-head necrosis and would not allow her to be adopted until it was either determined that she didn't have it or she did and begin treatment. However, we received few responses that eventually tapered off to none at all. This past wednesday we decided to drop by to possibly ask about the dog and begin looking at other possible dogs. But unfortunately, since I don't get out of school until 2:10, we weren't able to make it there until 3:05, and only to find out that tues.-thurs. they close at 3. So we decided to play with the dogs through the fence for awhile and guess who showed up? Roxy! the dog we had been asking about for the past 3 months! however she seemed to dislike walking on the gravel that was in the fenced area, so we didn't get to really interact with her. but we did meet another sweetheart named Sabrina that i absolutely fell for and my mom did also. So we tried again the next day, me sprinting out of the school after the bell, but traffic held us up and so we didn't get there until 3:05 AGAIN. and once again met the closed sign. another woman came to adopt a dog and after talking with us for awhile and showing us the dog she wanted and playing with it, she decided to try her luck and walked inside. but they turned her away, no dog adoptions after hours. (con't in 2nd review)

elitist attitude
I applied to adopt a small dog from these folks, and with a perfect vet record for my current pets, they turned me down. I wouldn't promise to keep all my pets in the house, in a crate, anytime I wasn't home, so I was refused. So if you ever leave your dogs in your secure, fenced yard when not home, you better lie if you want a dog from them. The application was many, many pages,(with several blatant 'trick' questions) and the price they charge ($300) is more than any of the other rescue organizations I checked out. I went on a Saturday, and found out 2 other people wanted to adopt the same dog. NONE of us was deemed worthy, and I watched their web page for weeks to see how this dog fared. He was there for at least another month, and I suspect he was adopted by his foster family. I saw many folks leaving in tears. I decided I really didn't want people like this in my life, and went elsewhere. I found a great little dog that is the light of my life, spoiled and loved, even goes to daycare on some of my work days.

GREAT ORGANIZATION
I volunteer here on a regular basis! It is a place filled with love. The people and volunteers really care about giving these mistreated or unwanted animals amazing homes. They take the time to help you find the animal that fits you, and do background checks on everyone to make sure when an animal leaves he/she is in good hands. Also if you are wanting to get a particular breed of animal, this is your place to adopt! A lot of the animals that we get are pure-bred they are just unwanted. So this is a better alternative to spending thousands of dollars. Instead you only spend maybe a hundred and it sits well knowing that it was put toward the organization itself not some breeders pocket.

I feel truly blessed to be a part of such and organization. And to be able to find great homes for these great companions.

The Best Place to Adopt a Pet
I recently adopted my dog Shyla from this no-kill shelter, and thought that the volunteers and staff there worked so hard to help me find a perfect match. They don't just want to get the pets adopted - they want to help each pet find the perfect match, and help each family find the right match. It is such an emotional decision to choose a companion that is going to be in your family for 15 years or more (hopefully) but they were patient and spent over 2 hours with me going over the adoption questionarre and spending time with me answering my questions about everything from how to housebreak a dog, to what is the best dog food to feed my dog. I know it must be the hardest job in the world to see so much abuse and neglect from some of the sad cases that come into their adoption program, but they seemed to have found a way to keep their chins up and stay positive. It was a very good experience for me and a recommend them to everyone I met that is thinking about adopting a dog.
