Mr Scott is the epitome of excellence and integrity. He saved me from purchasing a disaster in 2009 and is the reason I have progressed to building my dream home now. This gentleman charges by the hour but offered to stop the inspection after less than 1/3 of the way into it because the faults found were insurmountable . A lesser person could have milked the time for a greater charge. His reports are prompt and professional, while his correspondence is sincere. Mr Scott is a good person with stellar skills.

I can see why sellers would be unhappy with Doug Scott because he is incredibly thorough and isn't distracted by cosmetic updates. He is a buyer's advocate. He recently inspected the house that my husband and I purchased and he did an amazing job educating us on the house. He was very good at explaining his inspection report and showing us places where we could make our own improvements, longterm suggestions, and things to look for in other homes. When we had questions later, he was prompt to reply and give us advice and help. I will say, because he is so thorough, you can't let yourself get overwhelmed and ultimately you have to decide which aspects of the house you can live with. However, my parents also used Doug Scott when they bought their house five years ago, and everything he warned them about has come to fruition. Because of his insight, they were able to catch things early and save thousands of dollars.

We love Doug Scott and his professionalism at home inspections. Doug saved us from making a huge mistake buying a home with multiple issues which could have cost us 75K to 100K in repairs alone. We used him on 2 home offers and ended up buying the 2nd home he inspected for us. Not only is Doug great during the inspection but always available after the job for any questions or suggestions. We would recommend Scott Home Inspection to anyone anytime....Any negative comments on Doug Scott are from agents trying to hide the mess underneath the pretty. Thank you for your honesty Doug!

I worked with Scott to get my new home inspected. Scott was able to identify some of the issues that I would not have thought about and helped me with County codes and Possible violation builder had made. I was able to get them corrected because of detailed reporting. Worth the investment

I owned the “inspected” residence for over 13 years. An inspection was done prior to listing the house (from a reputable and certified home inspection service.) Their report was professional and detailed. They found minor issues which were fixed promptly, some awaiting repair. Mr. Scott comes in five weeks later and systematically and unobjectively makes assumptions regarding structural integrity of building materials and techniques used in the original construction (Centex Home). I quote his report "The steel lintel used did not meet the codes at the time of construction but the Cobb inspectors are slack." The codes at the time were met per a licensed architect and builder. The architect and Centex Homes spent a little bit more time, effort and knowledge on the build of this house, unlike Mr. Scott who makes unfounded claims throughout his report. If he had done a thorough external property inspection, he would have noted the water feature that was inoperable - yes, the pump was broken and was in the process of being replaced, yet he mentions nothing of this item. He spent more time discussing how the brand new garage door was "too loud" for the prospective buyer rather than talking about issues. Replacement of doors and windows rather than repairs are his only recommended solution. He states the backdoor has no problems but could eventually become a problem. Soffit vent for a Poor Man's Return? Really? Uh, NO! Stop playing in areas you are not qualified to address.

Last year, used inspector based on real estate recommendation... regret every bit of it. Lost a great home opportunity when we attempted to negotiate under false assumption of mold in HVAC/Duct Work. Seller provided us paperwork on work done to inspector to dispute claims...never saw or heard from inspector. Guess he was too proud to be wrong. We lost an opportunity at a wonderful home! Sellers and new buyers were kind enough to show us work done and another HVAC specialist inspection in person. Wife and I fired real estate agent and she clearly regrets using these folks. Repeat customers? -- repeat suckers! Better folks out there...stay away from here!

Janice, When our clients have concerns, they normally call us. We would appreciate speaking with you about last year's inspection. When we find what appears to be mold in any area of a home, we recommend remediation by a qualified mold contractor. Then that contractor can tell you what the cost will be to do the work. Then our clients can make an educated decision about their purchase. The last few years have been bad ones for mold in Atlanta. Many homes were left vacant, with HVAC turned off or down, and mold develops quickly in that environment. We do not charge for follow up telephone conversations. We always respond to paperwork provided by our clients. We have had no communication from JaniceJop. Please take the time to call us. Thanks.
not professional, unwilling to dig deeper on issues, seems to speculate too often, told i was too young to understand and constantly talks about himself. Had to call out another inspector and specialists to confirm issues...which of course weren't an issue at all. Wasn't worth the money, definitely a 'deal breaker'...as in I won't be working with this person again! ...in response to the comment. When you don't fully do your job, the arrogance doesn't help. As I've been in the business, I recognize what many buyers are missing from your inspections. According to many, you've never inspected a home you would consider a good purchase. So, I guess all homes are bad? If we have to call someone else out to double check your work, why do we need you? We have paperwork from the sellers and other licensed/qualified contractors contradicting items you considered an issue. Guess those upset sellers & buyers may have been upset because your evaluations are flawed. BTW, ATL magazine (which I love) never endorsed you, so like your inspections, please quit exaggerating your claims. Finally, my agent who use this company regrets recommendation.Welcome to the internet Sir. Can't handle the criticism from your customers, remove your listing from Kudzu.

Thanks for your review. However, we are extremely surprised by it. During the 40 years we have been inspecting homes and commercial buildings for prospective buyers in the Southeast U. S., we have never received a complaint from a buyer. No one has ever complained by email or telephone. However, we have upset more than one seller with our evaluation of his home, and we suspect that may be the source of any less than happy post or telephone call. We work for the purchaser in a real estate transaction, not the seller, or agents. We are proud of the fact that some of the most successful people and families in Atlanta, generation, after generation, rely on our opinion and evaluation of their future residence or office. In fact, we have been featured twice in Atlanta Magazine, most recently as the "Inspector General" of Home Inspectors in Atlanta. And, by the way, some of our favorite clients are younger and seem to appreciate the extra time and care we take to educate them on the "largest purchase of their lives". It's tough being the home inspector who discovers the bad news, but our clients think it's better to get it now, than after an unfortunate purchase! Must be the reason so many of our clients are repeat customers!
I had the pleasure to work with Doug on two separate occasions on two separate houses. I learned the details on how my house was constructed, what problems currently need to be addressed, what problems will need to be addressed in the future, and most importantly what my options were. There was no checklist or agenda but rather a detailed examination of the key components that needed to be addressed. Based on the inspections done, Doug more than payed for his invoice once the problems were either fixed or credited to me by the sellers. The report was just as detailed and included pictures to justify each area discussed. I would strongly recommend Doug.

We have built three homes and used Doug on each. He is experienced and thorough, and sees each project through until the end. He adds tremendous value at a fair price, and makes the home building experience much less stressful. I have referred Scott Home Services to family and friends, and the results have been fantastic each time. Simply put, Doug Scott is a "pro's pro," and I would recommend him without reservation. Bob

Doug came highly recommended by a close family friend who is very well respected GC in the area. My friend said "Doug isn't going to be the cheapest guy in town, but he is going to find EVERYTHING!" I am happy to say that while I probably could have saved some dollars, I could not have found a better value.

We love Doug Scott! He inspected the home we just closed on and also inspected our previous home almost 9 years ago. His prices are a bit higher than the competition, but he's well worth it. He's available anytime to answer follow-up questions or give advice on how to make needed repairs. Last month I spent over 30 minutes on the phone with him while he and his wife were driving back into town from a wedding discussing strategies to keep the basement dry. Thanks Doug!

We're very proud of our relationship with present and past customers. We are always available to answer the questions of our former customers at no charge. One of the last phone calls we received was from a customer from 20 years ago who needed some advice on the home we inspected for them at that time. We've been in the Home Inspection business for over 30 years, so we must be doing something right!
To put it quite simply, Doug Scott is the buyers greatest advocate during what is likely the largest transaction a person will be a part of - the purchase of a house. We have used Doug's services twice in the past 10 years, and because of his thoroughness will be using him again shortly. Doug’s inspection revealed concerns with a home we intended to buy. Doug’s attention to detail and extensive knowledge identified the home’s shortcomings that we never would have noticed. Doug provided detailed instructions for remediation and was available for follow up as we negotiated repairs. We were ultimately unable to reach an agreement with the sellers, and although it broke our heart to terminate the purchase of a home we loved, we saved tens of thousands of dollars in future repairs. Throughout the inspection process, we felt that Doug had only our interests at heart.

Thanks so much for your comments. We are especially proud of the source of our business. The vast majority of it is repeat and referral. We try hard to represent the interests of our client, the buyer.
Doug inspected three houses for my wife and I. On the first two houses, each had serious structural issues that caused us to pull out of the contract. The third house got a thumbs up (Doug did point out several relatively minor issues that did needed to be addressed.) While it is disappointing to have to pull out of the contract, no one wants to go in with the risk that you would have to spend 10s of thousands of dollars (or more) to fix structural issues; or alternatively, that the issues would be unfixable, and the house unsellable and/or unlivable. Every house falls into some relative percentile in terms of quality (0% - 100%). Some people may buy houses in the 30th or 40th percentile; However, there is no reason that needs to be you. Doug will give you an idea of where the house falls on the scale, and there is no reason to go through with the purchase if you are not toward the top.

Thanks for that endorsement! In the current real estate environment, it's important to take the time to really investigate issues that can exist in a home. Some homes have been on the market a long time and have not been properly maintained. If you know the real situation, then you can decide how to deal with it. We just try to help our clients take care of themselves.
