$79 for a trip charge is fine. 15 minutes to sniff out a coolant leak at $250 is absurd. Indeed, I requested the leak detection, but was not told up front the cost. Technician did not continue search... after finding leak in furnace, so did not search for leaks in crawl space. Paying essentially $1000/hour to have someone wave a sensor about makes me feel foolish. I have used Shumate a number of times, including whole system replacement. In general, they are reliable and costs are fair and predictable. Not this time.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »
I got several quotes to replace the condenser and coil on two hvac units at my home. Shumate was 30-50% less expensive than every one of the other quotes. I almost didn't believe the quote was... correct, but it was. The techs came out to replace the units and did a great job. They went above and beyond because they also had to add another breaker box. The techs were really nice and explained everything to me, and the installation itself was better than before, because they improved some things that had been shortcutted by the original builders. And the best part, they didn't even try to get more money out of me. Their job was to put two units in, and they did everything necessary, even what they hadn't planned for, without complaint. I can't recommend this company enough. Great job guys!VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »
I came home to a cold house this week I did not have a clue which HVAC company to call. After a web search I called Shumate and hoped the reviews I read were true. Shumate's response was unbeliveable They were at my home in less than an hour and less than an hour later I had heat. My technician, Jimmy Gercman, was very knowledgeable and professional. I was treated like a long term loyal customer on this first call.I now have a HVAC company Bobbie Daher
Way too slow response time and their prices are outrageougious. The last time I used them the guy had to reconnect a wire. About 5 minutes. I was shocked with the charge. It also took them over two busines days to come after I called for service.
We have a service contract with Shumate for our commercial property. They consistently go out of their way to make sure everything is working well and is well maintained. Our systems are complicated computer controlled Trane systems and are prone to have issues on especially hot days. It's not uncommon for the tech to be on the blazing hot rooftop for hours at a time to get things running correctly. I'd certainly recommend them for a commercial property.
I called for service, it took 3 visits for them to misdiagnose an issue. They tried to charge $1600 to replace working parts. Another company came out and fixed the wiring on a Saturday for 1/3 the price.
I had a system little more than 1 year. Installed by another company but tried Shumate as it's local. They found a leak on a Schrader valve (replaced the core)and recharged the system for $687. More than double what I expected. Complained long and hard to Kim Guise? and she reduced the ticket by $114. Still $250 too much. They'll not get my business again...ever.
I had a mess up with a previous HVAC company that Shumate came out to clean up. The technician, Bill, was very professional. He determined that a problem that was diagnosed by the "other" company was not accurate and, as a result, saved us hundreds of dollars. He completed the job in an appropriate amount of time and was very courteous. Thanks Bill! Thanks Shumate!
We called Shumate to look at our air conditioning that wasn't working. He checked the unit outside and said we needed a new capacitor. We paid over 270 dollars for it, plus a 79 dollar service call. I latter found out I could have had the capacitor for under 20 dollars. The next day, the unit failed again and we had to call Moore's Electric who discovered the fan motor was not working. He replaced it and the unit has worked perfectly since. I strongly suggest not hiring Shumate. They are incredibly bad.
I purchased Shumate's one-year mainteance plan. I thought it was a little high, but I tried it for a year. The tech showed up on time to do the furnace maintenance and seemed to be doing a detailed job. Then the sales pitch started. He started telling me I needed to replace the igniter and induction fan & motor. I told him to explain to me why they should be replaced, and he could not provide a single valid reason, other than they were getting old. Really? The unit is only a few years old, and I know these two parts have a long service life. Moreover, both parts were still working perfectly. I asked him if his sales manager was pushing him to sell, but his answer was evasive. In the Spring, they came to do maintenance on the air conditoner, and the same sales pitch starts up again. The unit was working perfectly, yet the tech wanted to sell me a condenser and relay contacts. What for? I told him to show me the contacts, and as I suspected, they looked just fine and were working perfectly. Same for the condenser, nothing was wrong with it, and it was working perfectly. I asked the tech the same question as I did in the Spring. Was their sales manager pushing them to sell customers parts that are not needed or wanted? Received another evasive answer and same junk about how parts "might" fail. Yeah Right, and someone "might" fall off a cliff tomorrow too. Note for Shumate, YOU'RE FIRED!
This company is very reliable. They take care of my air conditioning and furnace and are always on time for appointments.
I called to have my central unit looked at. I asked for normal service and check noise. The tech found a tube hitting the fan and move it. He charged $155 dollars and did not clean and service the unit as I went out later and found it full of leaves. So, I assume that he checked nothing else. He told me that the filter inside was dirty and needed to be replaced. I said okay. When I checked it later the dirty filter was leaning against the unit and when I looked inside he had left it without a filter at all and the bracket hanging loose. I guess I will have to call someone else.
Charged be $270 for a $70 capacitor and talked me into a $225/yr service contract. They charge a $79 diagnostic fee for every service call. Their freon fees are also VERY high. A week after they replaced the capacitor the AC went out sgain (system is 5 only years old). Looks like they somehow managed to get all their old ratings deleted by having the original listing removed from Kudzu... that should tell you something.

Shumate techs arrive on time and do reliable work. The problem is their prices, which are way too high. Shop around and you will soon learn that Shumate prices are four to five times above market, sometimes more.
