Iron Horse Remodeling

We had a a bathroom remodel done by Wes at Iron Horse remodeling. Everything started out fine, but a number of issues resulted in a poor experience and we would not recommend working with Wes.

Communication - We expressed some disappointment during the tile portion of the project and we rarely heard from Wes. At one point we went 16 days without hearing from Wes. We emailed a reminder about our punch list and we thought Wes had abandoned the job, but apparently they were still waiting on some parts to come in.

Response time - Many calls and texts went unanswered leaving us wondering about the status of our project.

Responsibility - We felt the final responsibility should have been with Wes who our contract was with. Wes's subcontractor made all of the requests for payment and it seemed like after the first week Wes wasn't interested in anything but collecting checks. We refused to give final payment to the sub so we could share this feedback with Wes in person.
Expectations of our availability - We would have expected to be briefed on most major decisions so we could make them ahead of time. Instead most of the subs had numerous questions throughout the project and we were lucky I was able to work from home and answer many.

Project timing - Many of the issues were caused by Wes's lack of availability. We didn't realize when choosing the project date Wes's wife would be having a baby 2 weeks in. We would have preferred to plan our project at another time.

I hired Wes because of all the positive feedback I read on this website and his price was reasonable. He also wrote in his contract that work would be completed in 14 to 21 working days, which I knew was impossible but admired his ambition.
The lack of coordination between him and his workers was astounding. I gave him a very clear drawing of the cabinet layout, floor tile layout, and fireplace layout. Yet, the tile installer still managed to lay the tile wrong in the kitchen and asked questions about the hearth layout as if he never saw the drawing. The cabinet installer didn't have a copy of the cabinet layout and had to uninstall the trash cabinet and sink base to move them after I provided him the layout. The electrician had to come out a third time after I mentioned that the pendant lights still hadn't been installed.
The worst part was that after seven weeks of "work", my kitchen was not even close to being done, my brand new appliances sat collecting dust for weeks and most of the trash and debris was left in the condo the whole time. My place was uninhabitable for 3 months. After threatening to fire them, Wes offered to paint my place for free. I accepted the offer which added another two and a half weeks to a job that could have been done in 2 days. The end result was what I wanted, (minus the floor tile layout), but the journey there was incredibly painful.

Turnaround time for receiving a quote was very reasonable for the finishing of a basement bedroom. I was also pleased with the professionalism of the construction crews. Overall quality of the finished product was excellent. Would recommend for consideration.

Wes and his crew did an excellent job on the project. Wes came out to assess the damages done to my foundation. His crew came out early Saturday and hand dug trentches around the area (this saved me). They repaired the area and applied waterproofing. The crew came back a few days later after the waterproofing had dried, to apply additional coats. After Wes final inspection, I was signed, seal and delivered. Great fast job guys.

Wes responded swiftly with an estimate and provided excellent communication throughout the project. He and his team ripped out our decaying porch, assessed the inherent damage (90 year-old home), proposed a plan to both stabilize the porch and accommodate our wants/needs, and ultimately exceeded our expectations with his craftsmanship.

We had to compromise the original plan because of someone's previous poor construction, and Wes' solution was way better than our original plan.

The only negative was that project took a little longer than we had expected even when taking into account the unforeseen adjustments and reinforcements. Our only inconvenience, however, was having to board our dog during the project. Wes and crew made up for it by repairing a random problem area on our back deck without me even asking them.

We'll definitely use Wes again and again and again....
