The experience I had with Ackerman Security started out on a positive note before I even contacted them. When asking a friend of mine that owns a commercial security system company for a referral on... my home system, he quickly said the best company to use is Ackerman. Michael Sorrels was the Ackerman representative that helped me figure out what my needs were and what the best system was to fit those needs. Michael went above and beyond to get my wife and I a great system and at the lowest cost which we of course were pleased with receiving. Our system is totally wireless that connects to a cell tower and we have the ability to turn the system on and off either online or through our smartphones. Michael worked diligently to get the system scheduled for install as quickly as possible. Within a few days, the installer Adam showed up and put the system exactly the way we wanted it. He spent the time to train us on how to use all facets of the system until we were comfortable with using it on our own. Two days after the installation, Michael Sorrels made a courtesy call to me to see how the installation went and if there was any questions I had about the system. Since Ackerman did such a great job throughout the entire process there were no questions on my part. My alarm goes off several times in the afternoon for no reasons since I started using the system last Thursday. Ackerman's technician came out, couldn't fix the problem because he didn't know what caused it. He wanted me to pay $90 for a problem he couldn't fix. I refused to pay. He then told me to sign an extended warranty which will only cost $25 per service call + $6 more monthly in addition to the $25 monitoring fee I've been paying. I agreed with it. I called them back the next day for the same problem & the earliest appt they could give me was 6 days later. They would not give me an earlier appt at all. Meanwhile, I've been receiving these false alarm calls everyday & asking my neighbor to check if they're false calls or real. The police were dispatched to my house many times & I don't want them to think that it's just a false alarm when there's a real one. Very disappointed that Ackerman can't give an earlier appt & charged me a fee that they didn't fix.
In today's world I know it's hard to compete with ADT. Their prices are getting higher and higher so when I found Ackerman I was impressed with my sales rep and what the company offers. Since becoming a customer though, I've noticed issues. About two months ago, my family was visiting in town and just as we were preparing for bed the alarm went off and announced Fire. I was stunned and immediately began checking the home. I found nothing and called Ackerman who told me they didn't even have record of the alarm going off. I thought this was strange. Just recently, I called to schedule an appointment to upgrade security in my home to include automation and cameras. I scheduled an appointment with Ackerman and not only did the rep not show, he didn't even bother to call. This is not the sort of service I am used to. Where are the good, reputable businesses that cherish their customers? I agreed to lock into a contract with Ackerman but my subdivison has over 500 homes and plenty of other options. I plan to explore other security companies as soon as possible. Ackerman has not impressed me.

I was an Ackerman customer for about five years, before deciding to discontinue my service a few months ago. Tonight, the panel began periodically beeping repeatedly to indicate a low battery and long range signal error. This is normal behavior for the system, but with a baby sleeping in the room next door, I needed the audible reminders to be disabled or the system to be powered down as soon as reasonably possible. I called Ackerman's support number, had my (closed) account verified, then asked for help disabling the error warnings. Not knowing where the transformer is plugged in (attic or crawlspace, probably) I asked for any help that could be provided, but was abruptly informed "because your account is inactive, I must terminate this phone call." I offered to verify my identity, appealed for any possible option, but it was made clear that nothing could/would be done. Buyer beware, Ackerman is unwilling to offer even minimal courtesy or support for their equipment once your business agreement is ended - not even helping you turn it off. In the end, I disconnected the power leads inside of the control enclosure - something that could have been explained easily over the phone. Someone in my position that could not read an electrical schematic would have had to soothe a woken baby all night. If/when I am seeking monitoring in the future, efforts will be made to avoid Ackerman. I wish I had never given this kind of company my business to begin with.
This should not have happened and we have now completed training all of our customer service reps to do a better job of handling this type of call.
There's always a big push to send referrals to Ackerman- they promise 5% of sale price for new sales, or $25 for those who switch. I referred 2 very large new sales in January that at 5% should have paid me over $400. Problem is, these haven't been paid yet....almost 7 months! Salesperson informed me today that I won't be paid the referral fees because THEY gave a discount to get the sales from the referrals, so no referral fee for me....apparently that's their policy?! So....in good faith I give them 2 new customers and then they loophole it so they don't have to pay.....I have no control over salesperson if they decide to give a discount. No more referrals for you!

I have been an Ackerman customer for many years. I have to say that their customer service gets better and better as time passes. The service technicians are top-notch; they will not leave until the job is completed. I had a billing question and emailed the company - I received a timely and excellent response to my issue. I highly recommend Ackerman.
Recently upgrade my service. I was promised a first morning apt time. we scheduled a week in advance to make sure there would not be any issues. They called and said they would be late because I was the second appointment of the day due to my location, then called back to reschedule. Must be nice to take your customers money to upgrade 179.00, have the customer sign a one year contract then screw them over and not show up on the agreed upon time to install what the customer already paid for. Now I'll be filling a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Call customer no service did no good.
You call customer service and if you have a technical questions they say they will call back and do not. They tell you to drop their service you have to fill out a form. They never send the form.
JW Bampton of Ackerman Security did a great job of selling us a new security system to replace our 30 year old system. No high pressure. I felt he was really just trying to meet our needs. He took his time explained our options and let us know his recommendation and why…then we made the options we want and didn't want. Great job JW.
Michael is extremely pleasant to talk with. I was curious about using the system I currently have and he was very knowledgeable about the system and there was no pressure to switch over to the Ackerman system. I gladly switched and look forward to many years of satisfaction with Ackerman thanks to Michaels help
We have been Ackerman customers for 17 years and have been extremely pleased. We wanted to upgrade our current system and met with our rep, JW Bampton. JW thoroughly explained our options and answered all of our questions and/or concerns. So nice to have a salesperson who is honest and straightforward without being pushy in any way. Ackerman Security is lucky to have him representing their company!
We have been customers since 1999 when we bought our house and Ackerman installed a Destiny system. I have always been pleased with their service as we have never had any major problems with our system. Ackerman has always been very reliable and now has come through again. Dave Hendrix came out last week to assess the situation with regards to our old system and the AT&T U-verse that we now have for phone and internet. It was obvious that we needed to upgrade and he was very knowledgeable and professional throughout the process. He promptly got us set up for an installer to come out this week so we would not be without home security for long. This morning, Pete Rodgers came out right on time and installed everything with the same professionalism and knowledge that seems to be the norm for your employees. He made sure everything was working before he left, answered my questions, and helped me run a test arm/disarm. Afterwards, David was back out to make sure everything was done correctly and that I was satisfied. Impressive. It seems that companies concerned with customer service and satisfaction are few and far between these days. I have found Ackerman to be the model that other companies in any industry should follow. Dave Hendrix and Pete Rodgers are an ideal representation of a company that is committed to excellence and I appreciate their expertise and commitment to providing great service. I will highly recommend Ackerman to others.
We have had Ackerman security for 4.5 years. We have been very happy with the service. Their response time is excellent. My only issue is that they require annual contract to lock in the monitoring rate. Recently we switched to their radio monitoring service and love the fact that we don't have to pay for the home phone service. Vincent made the sign up process effortless and provided great customer service. Word of advice, if you are trying to change the security code, especially duress code, stay on phone with the customer service rep. We had cops at our door as we were trying to change the duress code for added safety. Customer Service called off the cops just in time so no harm done. It does make us feel better that the system works as it is suppose to.
I added to my system. Ms. Robin Comer, my representative was awesome. She came to my residence and had us set up for service in little time. She knew what we needed. She made us feel comfortable, just like family. All service was completed in a timely fashion. We were very satisfied. Thank you Ms. Comer.
We were really pleased with the service we received from our sales rep, JW Bampton. He was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Within 72 hours I was up and running! Installation was hassle free and the system has been working without a hitch. My wife told me how reassured she felt knowing we finally had a decent monitoring service in place!
