Company kept me abreast of when to expect service tech. Service performed in about 2 hours. Techs explained clearly type of repair needed.
ARS Universal completed a three-unit duct cleaning today, the first our home has had since it was built in 1998. I wish I had done it sooner, I expected it to be a loud, disruptive mess. Manley... (our service pro) was in the house all day, but was very clean, courteous, patient and kept the overall disruption to a minimum. With a sick toddler and it being the coldest day of the year, we were housebound for the day, so his extra efforts in making the experience painless and clean was appreciated. Please do not use Universal Heating and Air! They are overpriced and will recommend service that does not need to be done. In January we had Universal out for general maintenace as we hadn't had the unit checked in a while although it was working fine. They decided they need to replace a part which I had them do. (Sorry I can't remember what they replaced). However the heating unit stopped working 3 times after that and we had to have them come out and replace this part twice as what they had put in "went bad". The third time they came out they now said we needed a new gas valve and control board so we should just replace the unit. Had Reliable come out for a second opinion and all we needed was the gas valve for a few hundred - did not need to replace the unit. Then had Universal out this spring as we'd already paid for a service contract. On our basement heat pump the repairman stated we had a freon leak and the contacter needed to be replaced. The repairman pointed out a crack - said that's probably your leak - may want to replace this unit with all these repairs. Again, had Reliable out for a second opinion on these repairs and for $125 had the freon leak fixed in the valve stem. The supposed crack the Reliable Tech just shook his head and said that would have nothing to do with a freon leack. He just cleaned the contacter, nothing wrong with it. So buyer beware and make sure you get a second opinion if Universal recommends repairs or replacing a unit!!

I bought a “tune-up” at Home Depot from the sales rep for Universal. I even said half jokingly to the rep… “Oh, you’re not going to try to sell me a new system are you?” But it was a low price, and we were overdue for a tune-up, so I tried it. The service tech didn’t do too much in the way of actually tuning-up, but he try to scare me, telling me how dangerous the system is… “If I had children, I wouldn’t have this in my home” type statements. I was told the reason my 6-month old carbon monoxide/gas detectors didn’t pick up danger is because they are “old”. No surprise, I needed a new system immediately, and wasn’t I lucky that a sales rep was available to come out that very night. He actually seemed surprised that I declined. Of course, not to be fool-hearty, I immediately called another company (and researched it through the BBB, Hope Reports, etc. like I should have done in the first place.) The new folks took apart the furnace, ran a camera into the heat exchanger, tested CO levels, and lo and behold it’s not dangerous. I felt scammed and Home Depot should really be more careful too because I will also think long and hard before I ever use one of their contractors. (This was so upsetting, I created this account just to write this review.)

When my air conditioner stopped working and the temperature in the house rose to 85 degrees Universal was here within two hours and a short time later everything was up and running. With 90+ degrees forecast I feared I was going to have to move out for a few days. The people I dealt with were incredibly kind and efficient. Have been with Universal for 11 years and overall it has been a very positive relationship.
Universal has replaced our AC and heating, and they have also done duct work for us. The technicians have been polite and knowledgeable. The service department stands by their work, and are eager to resolve any issues that may arise.
This is the absolute worst company ever. They have NO costumer service skills. Our a/c broke over a week ago. When the came out to fix it the tech was over 2 hours late and basically said it wasn't the unit that we needed the ducts replaced. Someone came out the next day and gave us the quote (which was more expensive than several other places, but they were recommend to us... what a joke!) It has since been a week and the work has not been done. Every time I call I get an excuse about new computer system or some emergency installation that has taken precedence over us. They keep telling us different excuses... not the right parts, not my department, new office systems, etc... This company is full of LIARS!!! We've been sitting in our house with no a/c and 2 young kids for over a week now in 85-90 degree weather and they just don't care. Trust me, save yourself the grief and take your money elsewhere. DO NOT DO business with Universal!! They are scam artist!!
I had some routine maintenance performed by Universal Heating and Cooling. This company was professional and respectful of my home. They provided great customer service and I feel that I got the best deal for the money I spent. I feel confident in recommending them to anyone in the community and have been referring friends and family ever since. Skip all the other guys and call Universal-you will be very happy!
I called when my air conditioner stopped working in the middle of the aftenoon. I called expecting not to see anyone till the next day. I was impressed when they told me someone could come to my home right away. They fixed the problem quickly and for less than I expected. Thank you for the GREAT service.
We needed a major overhaul of our main AC and our upstairs AC needed attention as well. Universal's sales associate came to our home and assessed our needs. He was very professional and his recommendations were logical...he was not focused on selling us an expensive solution that would have been over-kill! The team showed up as agreed, completed the work in a timely manner, tested everything, and showed how everything works. Our house is cool! They have earned our business going into the future.
We have called Universal on several rental properties. Mr Johnathan Evans has been the key contact person. he is great to work with.
Don't just take my word for it, research the company on the BBB website. They are not a reputable company. The company tried to convince me I needed a new A/C unit, I didn't need and that wouldn't fix my HVAC issue, when the only thing I needed was a new evaporator coil. Their defense to trying to rip me off was that they only tried to sell me the A/C unit I didn't need because I didn't buy the $1000.00 worth of tests I didn't need. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.
My air conditioning unit stopped working during the first week of May 2012. I explained this to my son who works at Universal Heating and Air Conditioning and he dispatched a technician named Dwight to my home to investigate. Dwight quickly found the problem and made the necessary repairs plus inspected my entire system to ensure everything had been installed correctly. Dwight was the most professional technician I have ever dealt with. My son, Dwight, and Universal Heating and Air are THE BEST! Thanks to them, I am one completely 100% satisfied customer. I will always let Universal service my system.
We recently had a problem with our upstairs air conditioner. Universal sent a technician to our home at 8pm (who does that?). The technician took his time and stayed until almost 10pm trying to repair our system. He said the compressor was dead and recommended to replace it. He went over several options and we finally decided on a new Trane system. I could not believe that he told me the job could be done the next day! I was even more surprised when the installation crew showed up right on time and completed the job before my husband got home. The system was running and had already had the house cooling before dinner. We have been more than pleased with all of the services Universal has provided and would not EVER hesitate recommending them to anyone. As a matter of fact, we have already recommended them to everyone in our neighborhood and Universal has been GREAT in their eyes also. If you need anything, GIVE THEM A CALL!
