Great Value in BMW Service, 1/13/2015

I had my 645 for an oil leak just before Xmas. Needed the car for a road trip after the holiday. Jason and team work late to finish the repair, and let me come by for a free inspection before the... road trip. No dealer would provide that kind of service.

High quality results

They're not the cheapest, but they fix your car the first time. Great choice if you have a German import or volvo.

SAVED ME

I was about to take my volvo to the volvo shop next door, and when they quoted me they said 1200 bucks AND 3 days of labor to fix. By the grace of God when I took it back they had packed up and moved shop! I decided to go next door to Braxton! after driving the car they came back with a quote of no more than a couple hundred dollars and a couple hours worth of work...NOW due to their oversight on parts and labor i did end up paying 389 and waiting all day-literally. BUT because of the wait and it being their fault they gave me a free oil change and knocked down some of the labor cost-THATS HOW YOU RUN A BUSINESS! Nobody is perfect and I understand mistakes happen, but few companies in this day and age do what they should do in making it right for the customer. Braxton did. Im new to atlanta and I have found my autoshop...*SALUTE*!!

Consistent High Quality Service

I’ve been taking my Families cars to Braxton Automotive for years they’ve always treat my wife and I fairly. They saved our vacation one year by staying late to get our air conditioning working for our trip to visit family in Cutler Ridge Florida. Our experience has always been one of high quality service and workmanship. They make you feel welcome and are one of the best in town.

Thieves

A while ago I took my BMW to have it checked because I was hearing some noise coming from the rear wheels. I was told my car needed new brakes and that the noise was due to some brake components having come somewhat loose, to my rotors chipping and small metal parts coming off. I was finally also led into believing that my rear brakes might fail any time if I needed to perform an emergency stop. Cost of the brake job? $1100 [$350 labor] Do I need new brakes? Probably not! I drove the car for 1100 miles not even 15 days ago and had no problems with my brakes. The pads are still 9mm thick compared to 10mm thick when brand new. But here is the kicker! The noise was due to a broken sway-bar joint which even a monkey would have seen if he/she just bent over and looked underneath/behind the rear wheel. The broken joint is just in plain sight , and it requires no car-related experience to be identified as defective/broken [simply by comparison with a good one on the other wheel]. Cost to fix the actual problem: $100 part ; labor $30-$50. So you now tell me if that's ethical behavior! This unethical behavior is still possible because this business caters mostly to wealthy people who might not worry about whether they spend $100 or $1000, as the "expert" must be right in his assessment! I say let's take our money elsewhere! Get a good job done anyway and donate the saved money and definitely keep it away from these unethical sharks!

I understand how MMarFF feels about this situation and our oversight. However, this was an honest mistake, and not an example of Braxton Automotive being “thieves.” If MMarFF had given us the opportunity, we would have acknowledged our oversight and gone out of our way to make up for our mistake.
MMarFF brought his 2000 BMW 528 in stating “there is a noise when braking all the time.” When our technician test drove the car, he observed the brake lining light was on (this normally indicates the brake pads are low). On the test drive our technician did not hear any noises other than a light scrubbing sound from the brake pads. A visual inspection of the brake pads and rotors revealed that new brake pads had been installed on worn brake rotors. Also the rotor’s veins were heavily rusted, with the rusted metal flaking off. We suspected the brake pads may be aftermarket (non-BMW) due to the amount of scrubbing noise heard when turning the wheels on the car lift. We informed MMarFF of this and gave him pricing to replace brake pads, rotors, and brake warning sensor. The service writer only relayed that, “in rare cases,” brake rotor failure could result in brake failure. In this litigious society, like any other business, we advise our customers of remote potential problems.
But, no excuses -- if the sway bar rod/bracket was broken, then we missed it. 99% of the time we get this right. The location of noises can be difficult to determine, especially if the noise does not occur when test driving. I’m sure anyone reading this has at some time overlooked something that was right there in front of them. For this oversight we apologize.
However, had MMarFF brought this to our attention directly, my staff and I would have gone out of our way to make up for our oversight. I regret that MMarFF chose to not give us a chance to explain and/or make it right (as best we could) for him. We were not intentionally trying to sell him things he didn’t need. We stand by our work and would have done everything reasonable to remedy this honest mistake.

Not the good deal I expected.

I took my XC-90 there for the 60,000 mile service and was told it needed new brakes, both front and back, including rotors and pads. The quote I was given was $599 for the front and $569 for the rear. That seemed expensive, so I called around to get other quotes. I was given a quote of $501.82 for the front and $416.29 for the back from Volmaz in Decatur (plus there is a 10% discount coupon on line). Even Dyer & Dyer, the dealer in Chamblee, gave me a lower quote! There it is $590 for the front and $569 for the rear, and they are offering a $50-off deal for each set of pads for a $100 discount! And the service technician with whom I spoke (Sam ... nice guy) said that he wouldn't be surprised if I didn't need new rotors for both front and back. Braxton made it seem like they always replace rotors along with pads. I sort of assumed that if I went with a non-dealer, I would get a better price, especially after reading some posts here. I was mistaken. So I recommend doing your homework before taking your car to Braxton.

Braxton Automotive Group Inc replied on 02-24-2011

This review is based on price alone and, as you can imagine, you will find as many different prices as there are service facilities in Atlanta. We hope all of our customers do their homework before coming to Braxton Automotive. In doing so, customers should be sure to compare “apples to apples,” e.g. comparing shops using Original Equipment parts. When comparing the whole package, including quality, convenience, service and price, I’m sure you’ll come to the conclusion Braxton Automotive is a good value and a great dealer alternative. When reviewing overall service and maintenance costs, our customers enjoy approximately a 25% savings over dealer pricing.
However, in a few cases, our price is similar to the dealer. Brake jobs on Volvos are one of these few occasions. We just called our local Atlanta dealers and priced this job; there is a 17% variance, with the average being 11% higher than our price.
As far as always replacing the rotors when we replace pads, we do advise customers of the potential issues that may arise if the rotors are not replaced with the brake job, mainly the potential for noise when braking.

Braxton Automotive Group Great Experience

I went here about a week ago to have the oil changed and check up on my s40. From the moment I walked in I had a very professional experience starting with my advisor, Craig. The mechanic, Vittorini, was very informative, clear and concise in his explanations. Overall excellent experience for me and priced very fair.

Reliable and Cordial

As a young driver (Volvo V70T5) who doesn't have a ton of money to spend on car repairs, Braxton has been there to help me out. Fair estimates from Jeanne and Steven both, great customer care and a trustful group of mechanics who aren't trying to dig you into a financial hole, but keep your car running in tip top shape. Highly recommend for anyone with an engine light on or questions about your vehicle. P.S.- BMWs should not have their oil changed every 10k miles, Braxton has the pictures to prove it :)

Braxton Automotice is who you should take your car

I have been going to Braxton Automotive for over 10 years with all of my cars. I have referred over a dozen people to them and have NEVER had a problem with any work ever done there. They are courteous, professional, and a GREAT price. Jean is a pleasure to deal with and all of the technicians are friendly, polite and you can talk directly to them about your car. Steve is doing a great job providing excellent car repair to the people of metro Atlanta. Braxton Automotive is a first class act. Thank-you Steve, Jeanne and the guys! P.S. I will not even think about buying a car that Braxton Automotive will not work on.

Ruined my car!!!!

Took my car in for a coolant change and left needing a new engine. My car never over heated before I took it to Braxton Automotive. They also broke my driver side window it will no longer roll down. One mechanic there is very rude when explaining things to you about your car. The worst thing about Braxton is that they are frauds. They fixed the car enough for it to drive it to Cumberland mall, which google maps says is an 11 minute drive. Ive since been with out a car for about 2 months thanks to Braxton Automotive. They gave me back some of my money which was fair. Fair until I learned that they didn't even put in some of the parts they charged me for. They told me they put in a new thermostat & I was charged for it. But I found out the thermostat was not a new one or changed In summary I went from a $120 coolant change to spending close to $3,000. Don't risk it by taking your car to Braxton Automotive like I did

Braxton Automotive Group Inc replied on 02-02-2010

At Braxton Automotive, we pride ourselves on treating our customers with integrity and professionalism, and that is exactly what we did with BMW955. Unfortunately, BMW955 left out some important facts – specifically, the car he brought to us was a 17 year old car with 194,000 miles that he had recently purchased (and, therefore, he cannot have known whether it had overheated before).
When BMW955 originally brought his car to our shop, he simply requested a coolant flush (without disclosing to us that the “low coolant” light had been coming on). Seven days after the coolant flush, he returned the car to our shop with the “low coolant” light on and the radiator leaking coolant. Based on all the information we had at that time, we gave our honest professional opinion and recommended replacing the leaking radiator and aging thermostat. BMW955 approved the repairs and we replaced those parts – using all new parts as we had agreed to do. After a thorough test drive (a combination of in town and highway driving) during which everything functioned normally, we returned the car to BMW955. We explained that, older cars can have multiple problems that are not always apparent , we reasonably believed we had repaired the problem.
While we had the car in our possession we rolled the window down and it would not roll back up. While the window switch may have failed while we had the car in our possession, we did nothing to the window other than roll it down and, therefore, are not responsible for the window switch failing. In short, we cannot be responsible for the condition of a 17 year old/194,000 mile car.
BMW955 called us back two days later to say the vehicle was still overheating (and stated that he continued to drive the car despite the temperature gauge being in the “red,” thereby possibly causing further damage to the car). After getting the vehicle back in the shop and checking it over, we were now able to determine the car had an internally leaking head gasket, which was causing the overheating. As a result, he needed a new engine. Nothing we did broke the head gasket or caused it to leak. In the best case scenario, we would have caught the leaking head gasket a week earlier and before we had replaced the radiator and thermostat. However, there are times, despite our best professional efforts, we need more than one review of the car to correctly and fully diagnose it. This is particularly true of cars that are older and have a lot of miles or problems of an intermittent nature. In those rare circumstances, we try to work with our customers to fix the car with a fair financial resolution. In this case, even though we did nothing wrong, I agreed as a goodwill gesture on our part to return half of the money he spent on repairs (a resolution suggested by BMW955’s mother).
Thank you for taking the time to read our response.

NOT THE SHOP FOR US!

My sister brought her volvo to braxton for some minor repairs. when she called me for advice i thought that the estemate seemed high. fortunatly there is another volvo shop right next door so we got a second opinion and the estemate was 375 dollars less for more work! when i asked braxton why the difference i was told "the price is what it is". not very good business in my opinion. i will not be back.

Braxton Automotive Group Inc replied on 05-28-2009

As the owner of Braxton Automotive, I put a very high emphasis on providing our customer with a high quality finished product. We provide dealer-quality service at a good value. We are a small, family-owned business -- I believe our reputation is paramount and that, in the long term, it benefits our customers, employees and business reputation to forgo offering lower quality alternatives that ultimately may not meet the customers’ expectations. As a result of our quality-based philosophy, we may not always be the cheapest, particularly when compared to other shops that may not have the focus we have on high quality parts and service.
Since I don’t have the specifics of this situation, I cannot give the exact reasons that our estimate may have been more. However, the primary question would be, “Was it really the exact same repair preformed using the same parts?” I believe the answer to that question would likely be “No.” For example, not all automotive parts are created equal. There are substantial price (and quality) differences between many OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and after market parts. For example, you can buy a set of brake pads at a national chain parts store for $29.99 or OE parts for $89.95 (a difference of over 60%). In cases where there are substantial quality and performance differences between parts, Braxton Automotive chooses to work with the high quality part (which may explain a higher cost). .
In mjordans62’s case, if our estimate was higher, then in our professional opinion, we couldn’t offer a more cost effective alternative while still maintaining our quality standards and our typical customer’s expectations. In a situation like the one described, we would explain to the customer what our price is and the features and benefits of going with Braxton Automotive. Also, if a customer provides us with a competitor’s written estimate (doing the same work and using the same quality part), then we will match the price and often give an additional discount. I welcome the opportunity to discuss this specific situation with mjordans62 or his sister at any time
