I was born into a furniture making family in vermont , they were from the old world, old school. My.. uncle Francis "Bud" Carpenter is a world renowned clock maker/woodworker who studied in the black forest of germany . He has the family history book dating from 1612 , when our ancestor, as an irish indentured servant became the town carpenter of London, hence the family name (my mothers side) Carpenter...As a child it became evident quickly that in my training i couldn't cut a straight line to save my life, but i could hide my mistakes quite well ... with artwork and finishes. I was ,and am, in love with the look and feel of wood and the natural artwork that God provides in graining and colors and texture. After years of studying and becoming a starving artist in the 60's, i mixed my woodworking heritage and my art training and have endeavored to make "wood look good" as a business ever since..

I found Joe Bailey on Kudzu and reached out regarding a table I loved that needed significant repair. Joe promptly responded to me and confirmed he could take care of it. When I dropped the table... off, Joe immediately knew all about this unique table and gave me every assurance I was in good hands. Picked up table today and was overwhelmed! Such a great job. It looks amazing and I could not be happier! I recommend him wholeheartedly!!!VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »
The multiple positive reviews of Joe's work convinced me to have him focus his skills on my beloved family rocker. Joe works from his small shop at his home. He cares about quality and applies... his skills with care. I left the rocker with the only instructions as to do his best and take as long as he needs. Excellent results as seen in the attched photos. And fairly priced. His next project from me may be my 200+ year old mantle clock.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »
I was gifted a beautiful "music" table. A Music coffee table. She looked like an upright bass guitar. She had gorgeous curves and wonderful wood tones. She was music to my eyes... Only someone failed to take care of her beauty. She had fallen into disrepair. She was distressed... unloved.. and sat crooked because she was missing her shoes. Joseph Bailey took her home and gave her tender loving care. He tuned her up... sat her up straight and worked his magic on her. He rubbed her wood lovingly... gently.. and removed her stains.. and scratches that had been unkind to her through out the years. He gave her a new coat of stain.. and waxed her wood to a high gloss. Joseph lovingly gave her new life... to do what she was created to do...and that was to be the MOST BEAUTIFUL MUSIC coffee table ever!!! Thank you Joseph for your tender loving care...and for your god given talents of working with wood. Thank you for giving new life.. to what others would think of as ....just a used up piece of wood. I have more projects in store for Joseph Baileys Wood Restoration. This company is expedient.. professional... and affordable.
Joe refinished a vintage pair of 1974 walnut speakers for me and they look brand new again. Now he is working on another project for me. I highly recommend. A+ work.
Joe did a tremendous job in repairing my antique dressers and desk & I will definitely use him again! In addition his timeframe and price were both reasonable.Ē
mr bailey has worked on several pieces for my family and is a true craftsman . he has more of our antiques in his shop at present , and will always have our support and business. i recomend his work and service highly to all who are in need of quality fine woodwork and furniture repairs.
We've used Joe for years to make repairs. He's extremely detailed orientated and takes the time to ensure his repairs are done correctly the first time. In the off-chance that a repair needs to be refined he happily does it! This happened to us most recently when a chair of ours needed a little more reinforcement. And he didnít charge me for the repair. He's great to work with, he knows what he's doing, & he's reasonably priced.
I called Joe about my broken cherry wood kitchen chair. The leg and support arm was completely broken. In addition it had plenty of scratches. Joe told me "no worries", fixed it within three days. Superb craftsmanship paying special attention to detail.
I have an antique card table that is an old family piece. Joe completely transformed it back to it's original state - better, actually! It is really the showstopper it should be now, thanks to Joe making Wood Look Good!
Joe was a tremendous help to me when my bulldog puppy chewed through our favorite piece of furniture (our coffee table)! We have found it to be a unique piece and did not know where we could get a replacement if it was not able to be repaired. I was most concerned about maintaining the dark finish that matched all our other furniture. After seeing the damage done on email, Joe assured me that the finish could be matched and quoted me a fair price. It took about a week for me to get our table back, but now it looks as good as new! Joe was also very flexible when it came time for us to pick up our table. Overall, we're very happy Joe's quality of work! Our coffee table is back and looking better than ever. I'll definately keep him in mind for future wooden furniture repairs and recommend him to our friends who might need his service! Thanks Joe!
Thanks to Joe! We now have a beautiful rocking chair to care for our new baby. My father pasted away while I was 5 months pregnant and he left me my grandmother's rocking chair in which she used to nurse him. I was very hesitant to take it to someone to be redone b/c it was so precious. It needed a broken leg repaired though so I had to get it fixed if I planned to use. Joe not only repaired the leg, but tightened all the joints and surprised me by cleaning the chair and applying a new finish...it's gorgeous and very sound. It can't wait to rock my new son...such a special gift!
We purchased a claw foot oak table at auction. It was dirty, dull and too short. Joe was able to raise the table a couple of inches and make the finish look incredible. It still has the "antique" look, but now looks like a well cared for antique. We would highly recommend Joe's work.
This person is an artist and makes wood look better than new. He is reliable, reasonable and a pleasure to do business with. I could not recommend him more.
I have known Joe and his work for nearly 20 years. There is no one else I would consider for any restoration work. I have trusted him with my most important valued items.
Wow! This guy really took his time and worked on my piano like it belonged to Elton John! I am so very glad that I decided on this company and I will never ever ever use anyone else for my wood work. He also did two nightstands for us. They look so good I almost forgot that they were restored! Use this guy! Period!
Mr. Bailey did restoration work on the headboard of my approxinmately 100 year old bed. It was squeaky due to the glue holding the many pieces of the headboard together drying out. He was very accommodating in that he got the bed back to me within a week before my guests arrived. The bed looks wonderful and the squeak is gone! I would recommend him without hesitation. He returned my bed as promised and did excellent, quality work. Joanelle
I love wood and have a lot of items in my home that needed serious attention. I got Joe's company info off Kudzu and there is no one better at achieving the results I was looking for with all of my restoration. He took great care and did exactly what he promised. He's great to deal with and always gives a very good price. You will be amazed at what he can do for a person's wood!
Joe's work is first-rate, on mid-century metal furniture as well as wood. He restored my beloved grandmother's circa-1960 kitchen table and eight chairs to a condition I could never have imagined. They'd gotten damp in storage and then been moved cross country; the Naugahyde seats were mildewed and chewed up; the metal was pitted and rusted; the Formica tabletop was scratched and grungy. With as much care as if it were from his own family, Joe patched and painted the chairs, sanded, patched and perfectly matched the colors of the Formica and repainted all the metal. It looks just like it did when Grandma was alive, and it's now the centerpiece of my kitchen. He also repaired the locking mechanism on an antique roll-top desk and perfectly matched the finish. He's a great artist, and he cares so much about his work. I can't say enough good things.
