There are not enough words to say how please we are with John Temmel and his crews work. You can't go wrong using this company, honest, direct, responsive, receptive, caring, understanding, and... patient. A 10* company no doubt!!. As soon as we met John we knew he was the right company for us. We interviewed 7 companies (way too many) and they drove us nuts with misinformation. John is honest and always available to answer our questions. The crews that sided, repaired & painted our house were professional but more important were receptive to our questions and going out of their way to make sure we were happy. They found many mistakes on how our house was built and went ahead and fixed the problems, mostly adding insulation. We highly recommend Temmel, you're not going to find a better company.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »
Our house had the old LP siding and looked old and dated. So after getting multiple quotes to have the house resided and updated, we used Mr Temmel. The combination of price and timing is what sold... us. I think it looks great now, but I'm biased:)VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »
I solicited quotes for siding replacement, painting, new gutters, and custom shutters from multiple vendors. Not only was John Temmel the most competitively priced quote, he was also the most knowledgeable. John and his crew were professional, conscientious, and timely. The project was completed on time and within budget. John mentioned many items the other firms overlooked such as improper flashing on my deck, the need to paint the pilings of my deck, etc. Also, John is currently correcting items that were not part of the original quote such as replacing the mortar in several areas of my brick fašade. He is currently finishing my punch list including touching up paint on the custom shutters (which look great). I would definitely recommend him and will use his company next year to replace my windows!
John is very personable, friendly, and a delight to work with. John Temmel siding replaced siding on my entire house within three days - one day to remove the old siding and the other two days to install the siding and perform rot repairs on the facia and some other parts of the house. Then a third crew painted the whole house. My house looks brand spanking new. Will recommend him to neighbors, friends and family.
First John arrived 45 minutes late for our appointment. Then I waited 2 weeks for a quote after asking him if he was going to send it over. Just overall bad cutomer service.
It's been almost a year now and these guys have not finish the job. After reminding them at least 5 times to come and complete soffit work and finish painting fence, John and his son have stated that they will take care of it but obviously they simply don't want too after getting my money. For the most part, they did a good job, but it's wrong not to complete what you started and follow up with your customers. We were also told that we would receive warranty documentation for the hardiplank siding, but that never happen either. We will not do business with this company again, nor will we recommend them to anyone.
John's crew did the work on a deck expansion project for us Summer 2013. My sense is that John and his crews are very busy, and it was a bit tough to connect with him once the bulk of the project was finished, and we had just a few issues to address in the endgame. Even so, we are extremely happy with his work, and have no hesitation whatsoever about recommending him to our friends. I liked John instantly - Of the contractors we have met, he remains the standout as the most knowledgeable about how to approach our projects, the relevant building codes, and assuring work is done in such a way to avoid a myriad of common problems. I wish we had met John in time to have his crew handle our siding and roof replacements.
John Temmel did a great job. The house had tilted over the 30 year of our family living in it. The three inch tilt was not a foundation issue it was fine and level John recognized the issue immediately as racking. It took three weeks to straighten the house and fixed the problem for good. He then took off all of the old cedar siding and replaced insulation, sealed all the windows and doors, installed house wrap and sided the house and painted it. Temmel did a great job. The house is straight and looks fantastic. The price was great. I am very pleased with the outcome.
John just squeezed in some last minute repairs before the closing on our house. He was on time, on budget, and quick to return phone calls. His workmanship was also spot on and I appreciated his knowledge of building codes. He went above and beyond the call of duty when I threw in some last second extras. SO glad I read the other good reviews and went with him!!
We had John's crew replace our deck, add a window and re-side the back of our house. This was actually a fairly large job because the new deck included a roof and a good bit of finish work. John's primary carpenter on my job (Bryan) was superb. Members of my family are professional contractors and furniture builders and even they thought his work was quite good. None of the work was less than decent and overall we are very pleased. As a side note, I deal with quite a few contractors and in my view what makes John a cut above is his responsiveness and attention. A bad contractor can drive you insane by simply not calling you back quickly when something isn't right. You won't have that problem with John.
We recently contracted John to replace our siding and then liked the job so much that we asked him to help create and build custom-made shutters for us. The pricing is very competitive, the work is done in a timely manner, and probably most importantly, the results are great! Once we had our siding replaced, we decided to paint the whole house and were able to have John's team do this without a huge added cost. He also made his team available to replace some rotted wood while they were there and rebuild the deck (which were not part of the original estimates, so it was great to have it done all at once). The results were wonderful. I have gotten multiple comments from neighbors about how great it looks. Once we saw the finished product, we asked John and his team to build custom shutters for us. I can't even begin to tell you how great they look (John is welcome to post a picture to his web site!). Again, many, many compliments from neighbors. I will definitely use John again for my next project.
John's crew replaced our back deck and two French doors last year. It was a very high quality job with competitive pricing. We recently noticed one of the French doors was not wired correctly as it pertains to our alarm system. When we called, he was in the general area and dropped by our house within a few hours. He fixed the wiring issue within minutes. I am so pleased with his work product and demeanor that I have asked him to bid another project on our house. I plan to use him for years to come.
If you are considering a contractor to add outdoor space to your home, we want to highly recommend John Temmel and his team! They went way above and beyond what we expected to build a beautiful and spacious screened porch for our mother. She absolutely loves her new outdoor space. Honest, efficient, professional, and superb craftsmanship are just a few superlatives to describe the work that John, Brian, and their team of workers completed for us. Don't delay, call him today!
We had our siding done by John and his team in March of 2012. They came in and did a complete replacement of the terrible ABTCO siding (the old stuff subject to a class action lawsuit) with hardiplank and left us very satisfied. Of the three firms that gave us quotes, John's was the lowest price, and he also made note of several other issues the others didn't, such as non-flushed bird boxes and the like, and corrected those issues during the install at no additional charge. I was very pleased. We also bought next light fixtures, which he installed at no charge. He knew lots of industry tricks, too--like waiting for a dry, sunny day to paint. Feedback? Minor, but perhaps a little more speed to completing the overall job would be ideal, and a little more follow-up on any final site checks once the job is completed. But these are minor niggles and don't in any way diminish the fact that we got a great deal and a great job. The house looks like a brand-new building, and the job still looks flawless two years later. In perhaps the best compliment, our neighbor across the street ended up going with John for his job. I'd highly recommend John and his team.
We wanted to tear down our old standard builder deck and replace it with a large deck and screened in porch. I called and got several estimates. John was extremely competitive with his pricing. He was courteous, professional and very accommodating. Things did get off to a slow start but his finished product is amazing!!! He has assembled a very hard working and dedicated team. John had some great ideas for us to incorporate into our plan. He was very accommodating with changes to our original plan and even went above and beyond the scope of work to fix our gutter that was falling down and drainage problem in the yard. I am very pleased with the end product as is everyone that comes over. Our screened-in porch is now the envy of the neighborhood. I would definitely use John and his team for future projects. Thanks, John, for the awesome screened-in porch! P.S. even the county inspector wanted his contact information because he said John's work was "outstanding". Now, that's a compliment!!!
I'm not sure how 98% of all reviews for John Temmel received 5 stars on Kudzu. 5 stars means outstanding & I choose him because of it. I wish I could second that vote, but I've got about a 3.5 star job. The quality of work is mixed, the sub-contractors correct their mistakes (yes there were some) when you point them out, sometimes half grudgingly. John as the general contractor gets the work, schedules crews, orders material & deals with you as the client. Yes, he appears to be a nice & honest enough guy & seems attentive eye to eye in the beginning. However, on a probably average sized job he forgot to order material, ordered wrong material, crews showed up late or not at all without notice, and the job completion got delayed. When the job was finished I didn't see him inspect the work his guys did. instead he rather commented on the one part of the job that wasn't in his scope. All this being said, you get what you pay for, B-quality for a middle of the road price with some headaches along the way. You should get a decent job if you stay on your toes and double check your quote with what's done & don't let the sub-contractors get away with sloppy quality. The alternatives are crappy work (D to F level) of low-bid contractors as I have seen done on my neighbors houses, or high end residential contractors w/ enormous price tags.
This gentleman is so easy to work with, his crew did a great job, extras were accommodated without hesitation. Very happy.
