Matthews was right on time, and easily removed a giant oak tree in front of my house, and 3 more big ones on the side of my driveway, which all 4 were preventing me from parking.
Matthew and his crew are the most responsive tree service company in the area, I highly recommend them.
I've been impressed with the professionalism and ease of working with Matthew's from the beginning. When I called, they gave me the option of sending someone out even if I wasn't home and leaving a quote in the mailbox, which expedited the process of having someone look at my trees without having to rework my schedule. I ended up being home, though, and the serviceman who came to my house was the owner himself - I got the feeling this was standard. Matthew clearly knew trees well and he seemed to care more about protecting trees than just about getting my business. They scheduled my work within two days of the assessment and performed the job quickly and professionally. The office manager was in constant contact with me, and I never felt the need to track them down. I've used numerous tree services in Atlanta, but I've finally found one I'll stick with in Matthew's Tree Service!
After a few years of neglect, our front yard had become overgrown. Ivy and kudzu had slowly claimed the side of the house and small scraggly shrubs had started to grow in unintended places. More seriously, branches from one of our trees were starting to press against the roof and another tree had two large dead branches just waiting to fall in a storm. When we called, Matthew came out that day to give an estimate for yard rehab and tree trimming. He was very friendly and very professional. Two days later, we came home from work and the job had been done during the day; we never even knew they were there. Our house looks so much better now, and more importantly, the potentially dangerous tree branches are gone. We were both impressed that the job had been so quick and well done. The only small negative is that the final bill was a couple hundred dollars higher than the estimate, which they had said was a "worst case" estimate. However, they certainly did a very large (and very good) job, so it seems likely that this was just a problem with making an accurate initial estimate. It was definitely a good value for the money. Overall, I would absolutely use them again and recommend them to others.
July 2010, Mr. Matthews arrived promptly for his appt with my 70-year old father who resides in Stone Mountain, GA. Mr. Matthews presented my father with a written estimate of $600 to remove and haul away a small dead tree in the back of his home. Unfortunately, my father experienced some health problems after receiving the estimate and could not have the tree removed immediately. Well, as fate would have it, in October 2011 the tree snapped and the top half came crashing down to the ground, fell forward and rested on my father’s garage causing onlly minor damage. Naturally he called Mr. Matthews. While he was not expecting Mr. Matthews to honor a 90-day old $600 estimate, he was not expecting a $2,500.00 bill either!!!! The Invoice read as follows: $1400 to remove tree off the house (huh?), $500 to haul off debris (what?) and $350 for a 20x30 blue tarp (found on Home Depot website for $64.98..??)….Grand Total: $2,250. OMG! Mr. Matthews seriously! What happened????

Whoa…let’s back up a minute. In July, I was asked to bid taking down the one leaning section of the double-stem ash tree that was “still standing” in the backyard. Since my crew was working five minutes away, I was able to offer a price of “$500” since there was minimal travel time involved. On October 13th, I was called out to remove that same leaning section of the ash tree that had snapped off & landed on the house. As a Preferred Provider for many Insurance Companies, we follow the strict standards set by the Homeowners’ Insurance guidelines. Not only was the snapped off section removed from the roof, but also the newly damaged portion that was still standing was taken down. All wood & debris was hauled away, and a temporary tarp was professionally secured to prevent any further damage from the rain that day. The breakdown on the bill was done to exact specifications & was promptly paid in full, to your dad, by his insurance company. Your dad called me last week requesting that I come out personally so that he could pay me rather than mailing a check. He is a very sharp, clever & witty gentleman, whose company I enjoyed very much. Give your dad some credit here. He is hardly someone who would easily be taken advantage of. Shame on you.
I was looking for a tree company to chop down a huge dead tree that was next to a power line at my rental property. One of the companies I contacted via email was Matthews Tree Service. They contacted me right away with a verbal estimate and followed up with a written one. Their estimate was cheaper than 2 other companies. Before I could turn around, the tree was down and cleaned up from my yard. I ended up using them to chop down a smaller tree in the back yard. They cleaned up the debris quickly as well. This company was very professional and efficient and I would use them again.
I contacted Matthews to get some tree work done and decided to use them. I was told 11 business days lead time and would be contacted 1-2 days in advance. Something came up financially and I went to cancel only to find out when I got to work and called they told me they did the job that morning. The never called and did the job in 5 business days with no notice. Not very good at following their schedule or notifying the customer.

Dear Keith, Let me say again what a pleasure it was assisting with your project. We don’t typically get complaints for being early. While scheduling your job, you stated in writing that you were aware that we were approx 2 weeks out, & that you wanted to be placed in the next available slot. Because you were so patient & understanding, I was thrilled when an earlier opening became available, & I was able to schedule your job within 7 days rather than the original 14. You cancelled via email at 6:24am the morning your job was booked. If only you would have called. We have someone on-call 24 hours a day & the crew could have been re-routed to another job. Since the office did not open until 8am, by the time your email was received, & the crew notified, it was too late…your job had already been completed.
Either way, I am sorry that you were disappointed with getting your quoted & approved job finished in a timely & efficient manner. I did not see it mentioned anywhere what a beautiful job you received regardless of the communication issue. Though it is sad that you were not pleased with our performance in providing excellent tree service, two of your neighbors were impressed enough to call for quotes the next day. Communication works both ways, & I feel our Service, Quality & Value should have received more than a one-star- rating from you. Sadly, upon reading a few of your previous provider ratings, I don’t think we would have stood a chance for a fair rating no matter how stellar our performance was.
I bid you best wishes in the future.
I recently used Matthew's for a small job (removal of small tree that was encroaching on neighbours deck). Matthew and Melinda were professional, punctual, courteous and did a very nice job. I would use them again.
We have been customers for almost 20 years and would not consider using another company. Another tree was removed this week and we are completely satisfied with the outcome as well as the cleanup. This is a top quality and very professional tree service. Also highly recommended for cat rescue!
We had Matthew's Tree Service complete a few jobs on our townhome community property. I have never seen so many hardworking people. They worked fast and got the job done right. Matthew, the owner, came out several times to check on things and even let my 2 boys play on the big truck. Their response time was fast when we needed an enormous fallen tree removed after a storm. Matthew was very good at communicating with us timelines, etc. Thank you so much for a great job. We will definitely be calling you again!
Had Matthews remove an enormous silver maple that was VERY close to our house. They did a fantastic job, very thorough & careful. Having an enormous truck based crane hauling huge pieces of tree trunk over you house can be a little nerve wracking, but the only damage they caused was knocking a little wood cap off of one of our deck poles. It simply glued back on, but they were so apologetic. I had to assure them that it was OK! There was some confusion with the size of the crane they should have brought, but they got the right one out there & charged us the original quote. The only problem was the stump grinding. Our fence gate was too small for the grinder to get through, so they couldn't do it, but they did promptly refund us our money for it. They also showed us how rotten the tree was on the inside, so we now sleep a little better at night knowing that Matthews cut that huge, threatening tree down. Recommended.
In addition to some small and dead trees, I had a large tree hanging dangerously over my yard. The owner, Matthew, was there within a few days of my call and gave me a fair price for the work. His crew came out that afternoon and within an hour and a half, everything was down, cleared, and they were on their way. The guys knew exactly what they were doing and I would definitely have them back!
An overall great experience. Good follow through and communication throughout. Matthew and his crew did everything they had said they would and a little more. Very flexible and easy to work with. Will definitely use again. Tom B. Marietta, GA
Called Matthew for an estimate on removal of one tree on my property and three on my neighbor's, two of which were huge. He responded within 24 hours with a quote nearly identical to others I was considering. Having dealt with other tree services in the past, I could see he was very knowledgeable and sincere. Established a date and they were here right on time. Luis the crew foreman, Franklin the climber, and John the crane operator, and the two man ground crew did a splendid job of removing these trees, (one a pine well over 100 ft. tall) with such precision that the surroundings went undisturbed. Luis was overly cautious as he routed his ground crew along the fringes of my yard for limb disposal to avoid tearing up my new fescue lawn. This is what differentiated Matthew's from other tree companies I have dealt with in the past. Great cleanup effort, you'd hardly know they were there. Since I live in a wooded area, and I'm sure I'll need tree service in the future, Matthew will again be getting my call, as he has proven his company as being conscientious, affordable, reliable and dependable.
Bobcat work was far too expensive. Given the reviews, I thought it would be worth the price. Granted the dirt was difficult to work with since it was relatively wet, but I was still disappointed with the resutls. Not terrible by any means, but for the price I expected a lot more time and quality. I'll be hiring a different bobcat operator to finish the job, even more money. I should also mention that after being told more than once that the job would start in the afternoon, I was finally told at 7pm that the operator would be there a little after 730pm... to work with lights on. What?!? Rescheduled for the following morning. Yep. Disappointed.

Sean: I'm very surprised by your review given the approval & praise you verbally gave my bobcat operator & myself upon completion of your job. Not only was the dirt somewhat wet after multiple storms...it was rock-like, compressed red clay that was brought to your site, for free, from an outside source of your choosing. I told you upfront that it would be difficult to move, & that the end result would not be uniform. I kept you in the loop with our schedule all day while we assisted homeowners with storm damage from the tornadoes. We completed your work as agreed for the contracted flat rate offered. Surprisingly, no where did you mention the additional work that was done for free upon your request...why is that? I'm confused: If you were unhappy, why did you not say so? Instead you told me you were pleased. Sounds to me like you are more disappointed in the free fill dirt...not our work.
I contacted Matthew based on the other positive reviews here on Kudzu. He was prompt, professional and very informative. His team did a fantastic job removing three large trees in a relatively small back yard. No damage to the yard or surrounding deck and fence. I plan to have him do more work and would recommend to anyone! Many thanks to Matthew and the entire team!
We read all the great reviews so we had Matthew's give us an estimate and they came in SIGNIFICANTLY lower than the other company we received an estimate from. Matthew was very friendly and was very knowledgeable and they got the job done quickly and efficiently. Now that we have 7 tall trees gone from our backyard, I can sleep better at night, knowing they won't fall on my house in a storm! We will recommend him to everyone and would use his services again in a heartbeat. Thanks!!
Matthews removed two damaged trees from our yard last fall. I found their personnel to be professional, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable. They arrived on time, performed the promised activities, and provided excellent quality service. We contacted Matthews again when we were ready to obtain and install a replacement tree. Their integrity and customer service focus were exceptional! I would definitely use Matthews again!
