An independent bookstore that rules
The first thing to know about Powells is that it is huge at least 4 stories high with rows and rows of books and gifts to give booklovers. They have an amazing collection of new and used books and the store is so well-organizednot only is it organized by genre or type of book but it is also color-coded and a map is available if you visit. If you cant make it to Portland, visit their amazing web site at powells.com.
Annie Bloom's is my favorite book store on the planet. When you walk in you feel like you are in a book lovers paradise. The shelves are stocked from floor to ceiling and table displays tempt your fingers to flip through every page. You'll find things you didn't know you needed and you'll have to buy them. You see they have books you don't find other places. Set in the Multnomah neighborhood the book store is a privately owned and opperated treasure. The prices are fair and the staff are always helpful and friendly. You'll never feel like you can't take your time and browse and that is the beauty of a book store. Plus they have a punch card system, so after you buy so many books...
Great Used Books
This is a great place to get quality used books as very reasonable prices. Books are culled for the Multnomah Library book shelves and donations from readers. Books are shelved by categories and lots of wonderful author to select from. You won't go away with empty hands.
Small but awesome
This is the smaller version of the Burnside Store. It's connected to a great little coffee shop, and they still have all the wonderful selection of books. Check out their Zine collection especially-it features lots of local artists.
