Al's often puts business cards in our doors to entice us to have our trees trimmed. We called. The service rep came out and gave us an estimate and date of service. When that day and time came -- no tree people. When I called the office, I got one of the rudest non caring persons you could find. He had no idea if anyone was coming and didnt know who I was. Then a bunch of guys showed up and chopped down the trees and drove off. Al, if you are a real person, you really need to do some quality control on the whole process; and stop putting your business card on my door. I won't use your company again.

A salesman came out and gave me a quote. It was a fair quote, but I was getting others and said I had to think about it. A few hours later two other salesmen come to home saying they didn't know why the first one was here. They said they'd beat his quote and if I had the work done the next day, they'd give me a further discount. I agreed and they came the next day. They didn't bring a stump grinder but said someone would come within a week to remove the stump. I insisted they remove the stump that day, so they went and got a grinder. The work was so-so.. but not bad. Here's the bad part. I called the office with my credit card to pay for the service, and the woman ended up stealing my credit card info. She bought a cruise, paid off utility bills, you name it. The company actually alerted me that they thought an employee was using my card. They were apologetic, but I still had to go through all the hassle of canceling my card, writing a police report, etc. It took me months to clear things up. Not sure who these people are hiring...

I agree with all of the reviews listed. It was very difficult to get them to come to our home for the estimate. It was the owner of the company who came out and he told that at least the supervisor spoke English. He and I went over in detail how they were going to trim the Palo Verdes. When I looked out of my window at the trimming they were doing on our Palo Verdes, I was horrified to see most of the tree branches on the ground. Fortunately, Palo Verdes are very hardy trees and will recover from over pruning. When I went out to talk to the supervisor, he had to call his office to get someone to translate because he did not speak English. I was sorry that I hired this company just to save a few dollars.

The first time I used them they beat another estimate by 1/2. The work was ok but they didn't leave the sprinkler system parts like they found them. I recently called them for more work and we set a time for them to come give me an estimate. About a half hour or so before they were supposed to be here the estimator called and said he was slammed, that he wouldn't be able to be here for another hour or hour and a half. So he offered to come by when I was gone, write up an estimate and leave it for me. When I got home that evening I looked all around for the estimate but it wasn't to be found. I thought maybe he was going to mail it to me but that wasn't the case. Haven't heard a word to this day. How does a place like this stay in business? Where I come from if they pulled this shenanigan they'd be out of business in a week. DON'T EVER USE THIS COMPANY!

The man that came out for the estimate was very personable, but it ends there. The workmen did not show up for 2 scheduled appointments and when they finally did, the work was left incomplete without any notice to me as to why (broken equipment). Several phone calls and days later the work was finally completed. Three weeks later I received a, not so nice, phone call regarding nonpayment. I found my check still under the doormat where I had been instructed to leave it. I requested to be mailed a bill so I had proof of payment. This never happened. I will NEVER again use this company or recommend them !

I had them over to give me a price on cutting up a tree that had fallen. They said they could do it the next morning. I agreed. But after speaking to a couple of people in my office they said the price was outrageous. So within an hour of talking to them, I cancelled. They still charged my account $75.00, saying I didn't cancel 3 days prior to the work being done. So the moral of the story is, if you call them, make sure you don't schedule work any closer than 4 days out, in case something happens that you need to cancel. What a rip off. I guess that's a profitable way to assure at least a $75.00 charge. Not very good customer relations.

Had numerous problems. Issues included: - Salesman over promised work to be completed - Stump not ground properly - Trees that I paid to be spiked weren't - Two trees that were supposed to be trimmed, weren't. To make matters worse, I ended up speaking with someone who claimed to be the owner about the issues and they took no responsibility for any of the issues. Do not do business with Al's Tree Service.

I would not use this business again. They initially came out and did an estimate on trimming up 3 trees and then cleaning up the backyard which was full of weeds and out of control bermuda grass. The guy doing the estimate said everything would get done. They trimmed the trees OK, but the backyard was a mess! The crew only spent 30 minutes out there and only used a weed whacker to trim the out of control bermuda grass when the guy had said they would completely clean it up. I did not get the service I paid for and when I called them back, they said the job was impossible and couldn't be done! I will not use Al's Tree and Yard work again.

In August, 2006 Al's removed a full-grown ficus tree that was not scheduled for removal when they sent out a second team to grind stumps from two previously removed trees. In spite of a lawyers letter, repeated phone calls, etc. they have refused to replace the tree and even though they say they will now send me a check, I have yet to receive it. No customer service what so ever.

Two years ago, we paid over $2K to have a large pine tree cut down and the stump group to grade. The only issue is that the tree's roots lifted the tree above grade and when then ground it down it was still 22 inches above the grade of our yard. Two years later and we are still trying to chip away at it. NOT IMPRESSED! WASTE OF $$.

We had an appointment with Al's to examine three trees in our yard. The appointment was not kept and late in the day my wife received a call saying they would try to get around to us sometime the following day. This is mid-February and there is no major storm damage to clean-up. Their ads are meaningless words.
