This company may work with you and your insurance to get a roof replacement but how long are you willing to wait to get a new roof? We signed the contract and everything sounded great. They met with my insurance and my roof was approved for replacement. The insurance person wrote me a check when he was at my house for the inspection. 2 days later the American Shingle guy was there to pick up the check and for us to pick out the new roof. That was on April 22, 2010. We still have no roof and all the calls I make to the American Shingle "customer service" line are either disconnected or they have no information. My sales person is no longer employed by the company. They have moved my installation date 3 times now. In the time I have been waiting the Better Business Bureau rating for American Shingle has gone from a C to a F. I am afraid that we will never get our money back to replace our roof. I have asked for the money back but they want to charge me a 10% refund fee. That is not acceptable. Stay away from this company. In our neighborhood 3 homes had roofs approved by insurance and none of the 3 of us have new roofs yet, almost 4 months later.

Avoid at any cost. They are really not a roofing company rather insurance processors and sub-contracts the jobs. The company will not get back to me on fixing my driveway which they broke during the roof installation. They claim it is my responsibility to contact the dumpster company where as they can't even tell me which company they have hired. I have no way to know this. Other specification: 1. They have not adjusted the bill according to the agreement (my out of pocket expense was supposed to be $500). Made a mistake on submitting work completion to the insurance company. 2. Made me wait three months to start the job after taking insurance money 3. Subcontracted the job to a smaller company 4. Did not inspect the job after the smaller company finished the job (The inspector said it is 'too hot' and had me sign a form). 5.Customer service does not pickup the phone and do not return calls. 6.Threatens me for Lien on property.

Company rep never showed up to meet with insurance adjuster, no staff ever on my roof....called right away for my check when insurance had given go ahead. I was informed that project manager would contact me...that was 5 months ago....job completed by another company. Don't forget to check BBB before choosing.

Two different companies said I did not have enough hail/wind damage to need a roof. Brent came by and initiated contact with my insurance company. The insurance adjuster bought the roof before getting half way to the top. The damage analysis process is subjective. American's field people were all great. The installation crew did a very good job and the GAF system (look it up) has some elements making it better than most. American's Project Coordinator allowed a shingle upgrade from 3-tab to architectural without additional cost. If the company can get their internal communication together and realize that overhead personnel are there for support the whole experience would be well above average. Beware of their paperwork...it limits your rights and could leave you with legal action as your only financial protection. Until they initiate some homeowner financial protections I suggest limiting your liability to a level that can be adjudicated in Small Claims Court while not forgetting to be fair and reasonable. I would definitely use them again.

Quality roof. 8 weeks after sending final insurance check, no refund. Getting run around. Every week, for past 4 weeks, promises of a delivery date. Doesn't arrive. This week, promised overnight delivery. Didn't come. Today, can't find FedEx routing #. Yeah, right. Will go to corporate office personally and see what happens then.

I agree with the reviewers who say to avoid American Shingle. I should have asked for my money back immediately when the foreman neglected to show up twice with no phone call. Once the crew arrived, they did great work. Too bad the office staff is so rude, unprofessional and downright stupid. It took them 5 months to file the completion with my insurance company, all the while still sending me collection notices and calling me. I can't count the number of times I was told "I'll take care of this today." And nothing was taken care of. Even after they finally submitted completion notice and I received the final check from insurance and called AS to tell them to come get the check, they still called me to ask when I was going to pay. Stupid people! They didn't even complete the full job I had a claim on, but I don't want them to. I'm finding someone else. Run far away from American Shingle!

Well, I decided to give American shingle a shot. The office staff is rude, ignorant, and ridiculous. I was told they do hundreds of roofs per week and this is probably part of the problem. If there are any issues after install, the "customer service" number is never answered. They ask you to leave a message and no one calls back. I had to call the foreman directly to get any action. We had a pretty bad leak and I understand things happen. They had a crew out to fix the leak the same day. Still waiting on the drywall repairs. You have to stay on top of that yourself. Again, I made several calls to customer service with no answers. I finally got in touch with one of the foremen. He says I should hear from the crew manager in the next couple days. Overall, the guys who actually do the work did a great job and were very polite. The office staff is very hard to deal with, so, I gave the 3's.

My roof was old and a guy came buy and told me what hail can do to my roof. Longstory short they helped get a new roof and did a great job. From what I understand they do hundreds of roofs a week so thats a lot of happy people out there I bet but you only hear the bad so when I saw this I wanted to tell my storie. Thanks

The first people you meet are very friendly but are very pushy about signing a form that states you will use them and sign the insurance check over to them. I told them at the time that it was not worth the paper it was typed on. I was lead to believe that they would do the roof, facia and repair inside damaged drywall and ceiling. Then comes the salepeople. Will not discuss any kind of deals but try to scare you into signing up because they constantly remind you that you signed a piece of paper that said you would use this company. I locked horns with the dude. He told me 4 times that they could not and would not do inside work, they are a roofing company only. Then he goes outside and makes a phone call and all of a sudden they can do inside work. No problem. Then he wants my insurance check signed over to them. I told him he was not getting my check and I eventually asked them to leave. Then he comes back and trys to tell me my check isn't any good if I don't use them. Wrong. The check is payable to only me. I thought they were fishy people and after to talking to other roofing companys I found out in time these people are not who you want to put on a roof or anything else. I stopped my son from using them too. BEWARE OF AMERICAN SHINGLE.

We have been in the process of replacing our roof for 4 months. We have dealt with poor workmanship, rude customer care and a total disregard for customer service. We have never seen the foreman for our job and he will not return our phone calls. When I called to speak with his boss, I was told that I could not. I just wonder if this "National" company knows how bad the Atlanta group is?

I had some hail damage that caused a couple small leaks and I had them put a new roof on my house in late July. My new roof still had a small leak and 2 weeks after asking for help I got a bad crew to show up that actually made the leaks worse. I had over a gallon of rain come through my living room ceiling onto my carpet in the flood rains in September. My fireplace chimney now leaked on all 4 sides and I had another small leak develop in another area. I had to make numerous calls, leaving messages that were never returned and wait more weeks before I got a decent crew to fix the damage American Shingle did to my roof. I had withheld the final payment of the last 10% I am due to pay waiting for a period of time to elapse without any new leaks. Well it is the last week of October and I have another stain appear on my ceiling in another different room. I also received by mail a final notice that they were putting a lein on my house for non-payment. Now I am waiting for a call back that wont happen for weeks and will have to return to lighting up voice mails to get a reply. This company has no concern for customer service and is difficult to get anyone to ever call you back. They have a strong sales force that must keep new victims lined up where they can survive without taking care of anyone. Please take my advice and avoid American Shingle or you will be stuck like me with a substandard roof and little help.
