As a deputy for 10 years, he served the citizens of Volusia County, investigating hundreds of crime scenes, making several arrests, and testifying in court as a law enforcement officer.
During his tenure, Avallone earned a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Management from Warner University and a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida. In 2003 Avallone left the Sheriff's Office to attend law school. Three years later he graduated with his Juris Doctorate degree and that same year returned to Volusia County and accepted a position as an Assistant State Attorney in the Office of the State Attorney of the 7th Judicial Circuit.

He was later assigned to the Circuit Court as a felony state prosecutor.
Avallone was then assigned to the drug trafficking unit and later to the career criminal unit. During this felony assignment he conducted many jury trials on various crimes such as DUI manslaughter, grand theft, drug trafficking, aggravated battery and assault, and robbery with a firearm.
