I recently took an 8 month old puppy to Barb and it can only be described as a hideous experience. I spent over an hour in a private session and she had not one positive thing to say. I filled out lengthy forms with all the information about my dog. When I arrived she didn't know my dog's name or age or anything about him. Barb has no ability to see anything that is contrary to her beliefs. She is totally rigid. After my private lesson I took my puppy to a group class and left after 30 minutes. I can't even describe how bad that was. I contacted her as I felt I deserved to have the fee for my 2 unused private lessons refunded. She said she would do that only if I signed a release to not do any postings. She said if I posted she would then recharge my credit card. She shouldn't even have retained my card number. I didn't even ask for a refund for my group lessons. I used a wonderful trainer in Florida so know there is no reason for the experience to like this. I urge anyone who is considering using her to find someone else. She has no people skills and has totally "gone to the dogs"

Two years ago, I brought a puppy to one of Barb's puppy classes, was very put off, and questioned what she was teaching. I pulled the puppy from the class, but the more I learned elsewhere... I couldn't get Barb out of my mind. I decided to go back with our newest puppy. Here's the deal. Barb will push you. She won't accept excuses. She knows when you aren't doing the homework, and will call you out on it. There's no denying she's a tough cookie. If you disagree with her, or want to know why she recommends something, ASK. This is one of the things I LOVE about Barb- she doesn't compromise and tell you what you want to hear, she tells you like it is. She's a wonderful advocate for dogs. That said, she is horrible with people... and I have a high tolerance for different personalities. She posts wonderful articles on her Facebook page, but God forbid she sees something she doesn't like on yours. I posted a pic with my puppy's Basic Obed ribbon, humbly noting it wasn't as fancy as some of my friends' accomplishments. Barb took it completely the wrong way, proceeded to tell me she showed my private page to a staff member, refused to accept my attempt to clarify my intent, and angrily told me off. I don't need that crap. So, as smart as she is... I will never take another class there again.

I have been training with Barb for a few years now. I am currently training my second dog with her. She has help my fearful dogs become less fearful and actually be able to handle themselves in the real world. She doesn't use punishment, choke collars, or shock collars which is exactly what I was looking for. I have come to barb in tears sometimes because of the struggles that I have with my dogs. She has always given me hugs and helped me through the situation. She would tell me exactly how it is and exactly what to do. Which why else would you go to a dog trainer? She knows loads more than I know! And I value her opinion and her direction. I would highly recommend her!

Please think twice before going to Barb for dog training. She goes beyond "tough" and is flat out rude, arrogant and condescending. She does have an extensive knowledge base, just be aware she is going to spend most of your instructional time making sure you are aware of that and everything you know is wrong. Rarely does a positive word come out of her mouth. We enrolled our Bernese Mountain Dog puppy in her kindergarten & basic I obedience class. At the end of basic, he failed the final exam. Barb suggested we repeat the class. We acknowledge that our dog is in need of more training, however Barb's environment was not in his best interest. We politely replied we were going to seek training elsewhere and thanked Barb for her time and effort up to this point. Barb then proceeded to mock us and our dog on her Facebook page. It would be one thing if this was her purely personal page but she uses for her school as well. I cannot believe the total lack of professionalism.

Just an update. I was successful in winning my case against Barb Levenson. Dont give up sue her. I had to appeal downtown, but it was worth it. It cost her much more than if she would have showed signs of actually being a human being! I continue to pray for this lost soul.

Barb Levenson is a very nasty, condescending and mean lady! Have never felt so belittled in my life. She will shame and intimidate you in class, tell you your healthy dog is overweight and that you are a lazy owner. If a dog/owner does not get something right first time she will point you out in front of everyone and make you feel a complete idiot with no praises when you get something right. If you already have some handling skills you will not be allowed to use them and will need to start from scratch with her commands/signals which confuses a dog more. Dogs are not allowed to socialize, greet or even look at each other, if they do she says they are ready to attack, just because her dog got into a big fight recently and are both mean. There was absolutely nothing positive about the training, she didn't learn the names of the people or the dogs or find out what owners hoped to achieve, or introduce herself to the dogs to put them at ease, even at the meet and greet. Telling owners to put their dog in 'puppy management' by pulling its head to the ground and standing on the leash does not teach anything but fear in your pup. The building is very hot in the summer months with loud fans drowning out instructions and freezing cold in the winter. Agility equipment is always left out so you have to find room among it, and the floor is covered in dog hair and moldy old treats. Check other numerous reviews online too before handing over any money!

On paper Barb sounded excellent, and her ability to train her OWN dogs is very good. However... From the moment the training began, we were treated horribly. Everything from how much we cared about our dog to our intellect was questioned for no reason than for what Barb called being "tough." In actuality she was rude and mean. The entire experience was traumatic to both us and our dog and we would NEVER recommend her to ANYONE.
