I believe Dr. Barkett has retired from this practice and been succeeded by another ortho. I do not know where he has moved on (or if) but consider this a review of his practice, not the new doctor. Without going into personal detail, he was very obsessed with fees and charged way more than competing orthos. Continuing treatment was required after braces with a separate doctor. Whether this is due to an undiagnosed condition or glossed over remains to be seen. It doesn't matter now, but it is clear the orthodontic industry is quite a racket these days. In retrospect I probably would have been better off and more wealthy had I avoided braces. Charging $50-100 for a 5 minute adjustment which he doesn't even perform after paying a full retainer fee is a but absurd. My other ortho was far more conservative and didn't charge beyond the agreed contract even though treatment took longer than anticipated. Parents be warned. Braces can be good but in some cases it can interrupt growth and cause long-term problems. Do not confuse a good bite and straight teeth with a healthy face. Do your research.

Barkett Dental includes Dr. Doug Barkett (an orthodontist) and Dr. Rita Barkett (a dentist). They and their staff are so terrific that I never worry when my dental appointments draw near. I recommend them to everyone I know.

Dr. Barkett was my daughter's ortho and he did a fine job. I like him because he personally checked out the progress of my daughter's teeth during the whole braces thing. Many doctors have their nurse check the progress during the check ups and then six months later looks at the patient teeth and oh--have to readjust. My daughter only had her braces for 18 months and they came out perfect. Have to admit the pricing is a little on the high side, but definately worth it for the personal attention, professionalism of Dr. Barkett. He also shares an office with his wife Dr. Rita Barkett who also is an extremely competent and personable general dentist.
