I have been a patient at Blue Ridge Family Physicians for over 20 years. In hindsight I'm not sure why I have stayed there this long. The customer service lacked in professionalism and there is an extremely high turnover rate among the doctors. Hold times on the phone are excessive. I don't think I saw the same doctor for over a year. I can't even begin to count the doctors I have seen there. The final straw came when I went in for my annual physical. My insurance covers the cost of a physical each year in full. I received a bill for my physical and was sure there was a mistake. They charged me $193 for my physical, which my insurance company paid and then another $142 for an office visit during the same 30 minute time slot. I was told (or I should say lectured) by the office manager that the American Medical Association and my insurance company say it's ok to charge me another office visit if I have questions that are "outside the scope of a routine physical". This boggles my mind. All the questions I had in the allotted thirty minute time slot directly related by my physical. I was then told there was a posting in the room about this, which I never saw. Just because the AMA and my insurance company says you can do it, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. I feel I have been gouged and taken advantage of. I will never return to this office. Their accounting practices are questionable to say the least.
