First of all I have to disagree with the post by "jmnec1". I too have severe nerve damage and been seeing Dr. Carlson for several years. He has always been there to adjust meds and suggest alternate treatments for me. With severe chronic pain you have to have a goal and ultimately be accountable for your own treatment plans. I just had a spinal stimulator implanted and am hoping that it will provide even more functionality. As an aside, I would also say that the other physicians in the practice have been just as wonderful.

I saw Dr. Carlson for almost 2 years for severe nerve damage in my lower back and really liked him. He did many epidural injections (8-10)until we found one that worked somewhat. I saw him almost monthly. He recommended a spinal cord stimulator implant which I was not prepared for at the time. I finally got to the point where I wanted to discuss the stimulator and my narcotics with him. The last 2 or 3 times I visited, he wouldn't even see me. His nurse would relay the questions to him and she would return with his response. The final straw was last month. I really needed to discuss my meds with him as they were no longer effective and I was in a great deal of pain. The nurse left the room (I thought to get him) and came back and said "I went to bat for you but he said no". He quit on me. I am now seeing another pain specialist and having the spinal cord stimulator trial. He is a nice guy, but I needed to see someone else and am glad I did.

Dr. Carlson is the best! I've suffered with serious cervical and thoracic spinal deterioration for a number of years now and have undergone numerous procedures including nerve blocks, rehab, epiderals and surgery and about 5 Orthopedic doctors/surgeons. I had nearly given up on having any quality of life at all and then I met Dr. Carlson. He is without a doubt the best doctor I've ever encountered. He is very sympathetic and is totally in synch with what I'm going through. He listens carefully and has changed up my meds numerous times to get me on the right combination and dosage to be able to actually function at work and drive safely. Until I met him it was either too much or not enough, but he is the first one to actually mix it up and get it right! I'm not totally pain-free but we are managing it at a level that I can live comfortably with. Don't search any further if you want the best doctor all-around. I've only had a couple of problems at his office and it was with the business office. In addition, I've rarely had to wait more than 15-20 minutes to get from the lobby to a patient room and have never been there more than 1 hour for a routine visit. You'll be hard-pressed to find another doctor this good in your entire life! I normally don't go to this kind of trouble to endorse anyone but if your suffering as I was, Dr. Carlson will help you.

Dr. Carlson treats his pain patients with dignity and care. He doesn't cause them to feel as they are drug addicts or pansies. He is very knowledgable and precise. He has treated my husband for 15+ yrs.with excellent results.
