I have been a student of this school for over 10 years under three different head instructors (Tim Catalier, Dave Polman, and Jacob Rydberg), with Jacob (since 2003) being by far one of the better instructors I have seen both in martial arts and elsewhere. Instruction is given with an eye towards actual applications for self defense, and fighting, and not just for memorizing a series of moves strung into forms (aka dance routines). What each student takes from class is up to them, but I have found that the exercise and sparring have challenged and pushed me to become better where I applied myself and challenged both myself and my partners. The kungfu taught includes both empty hand and weapon forms and techniques from both internal and external styles. The instructors are both informative and genuinely concerned about their students welfare and the level of instruction, not just the money they can make from them. Rates are reasonable, with a variety of options for paying either as you go or in advance (with discounts for doing so) depending on your own needs (No Contracts! :) . They also stock a variety of equipment that they themselves use as well. This school also teaches a FREE Women's Self Defense Class every second Sunday. Honesty, Integrity, and Sincerity and that aren't found at other schools. Definitely Recommend.

Great school. Excellent classes. I have gained focus, strength, flexibility, deeper breathing ability, new friends, and powerful self defense skills. It can be exciting to join a martial arts school and you would be wise to join the Chinese Shaolin Center on University Dr. and Beck Ave. E. Apache was their previous location 2 years ago. Thanks for the years of training!

Chinese Shaolin Center- Phoenix, to me, is the most comprehensive form of Martial Arts instruction available in Arizona, and possibly the United States. With 2 amazingly well trained instructors,Jacob Rydberg & Laura Adams, this full time facility has been serving the Valley of the Sun for nearly 20 years; with each and every class bringing a new look at the art- whether it be Monkey, Crane, Tiger, Spear, Chainwhip, Nanchucks, or even Tai Chi and Pakua (Bagua). With over 20 different weapons styles, Northern, Southern, & Hua Fists, and countless animal styles, every day is a new and inspiring challenge. In addition to forms and sparring, the conditioning, flexibilty, and endurance of the training regimen keeps me coming back for more, always excited for the opportunity to have fun and learn something new. Having been at the school for 10 years now, I can proudly say I will be here for several more!!
