Took me a minute to find what I was looking for, but the food ended being great. This little place in Hillcrest is worth the trip from La Jolla any day. I have been there for lunch a few times now with my co-workers. We all love it.

this place is never overcrowded, the service is always good, and the food is consistently good, whether you get breakfast, lunch or dinner. Their desserts are particularly delectable.

The service here is always really good, and the food is pretty tasty, too! I would avoid all dishes with smoked salmon, but other than that, everything I've had is really tasty! The kuegel is especially good.

We absolutely love this place... the food is good and there are some really fun items that you can't find in other places in san diego... kuegel, baked apples, matza soup, etc... and there are buckets of pickles on each table! They also serve breakfast all day, which is a plus. The staff is funny and friendly. The only bad thing i can say is that their lox is insanely salty, so beware if you aren't a salt fiend.

This is a Jewish own dinner that offers late night dining till 2 am. It's got a variety of American food as well as Kosher items. Their carrot cake is delicious and moist. Must try!

First off,,,,,don't expect to park within a block of City Deli; Hillcrest is always conjested with no parking. To get to City Deli, you must be on foot. Once there, you'll find an average. basic, wannbe deli, with all the basic deli trappings: pastrami, etc. Why everyone thinks every restaurant in Hillcrest is da bomb, I do not know. I guess if you walk everywhere, stay only in Hillcrest, then anything you walk into is da bomb.

This place has an awesome selection of sandwiches and the food is really good. Great pickles available to snack on while you wait for your sandwich. It's a little pricey, but the sandwiches are great and the service is excellent as well.

I went in today not to eat but to pick up a pie and a cake to celebrate birthdays for some coworkers. What a find! Anthony took the time to tell me about all the cakes and pies over the phone and helped me make my choices. He told me where to park when I got to the deli and that sure did help as parking can be challenging. He let me know that everything was made fresh on site. He had my 2 items ready to go and made some suggestions for next months birthdays. Both the items were a huge hit! I got the banana cream pie that was to die for! I also got the chocolate fudge cake that everyone said it was one of the best they had ever had. Both for under $40.00 was a great price vs. the competition. Guess were I will be ordering my desserts next month!?!?!? City Delicatessen for sure!

The City Deli is a great place to hang out and chat with your friends while enjoying a large selection of comfort food. The macaroni and cheese is a favorite, as are the bagel chips. You can get everything from meat loaf to squid, plus kashe varnishkes and other ethnic treats. Don't forget to grab a black and white cookie from the bakery case on the way out!
