I had a very small job but it was, nevertheless, quite important that it was fixed right away. I called Decatur Handyman and spoke to Steve. I explained what I needed and he actually tried to walk me through it instead of charging me for it. Despite his efforts, I was unsuccessful. He agreed to come to my home the same day but was across town from my location. He showed up in the early evening and fixed it immediately and even showed me what I needed to do. The charge was very small and I am so impressed that he was willing to see me on the same day for a job that wouldn't make a difference to him financially. It's difficult to find service providers that you can trust. I'm so lucky that I did.

I emailed Steve about doing a vent and drywall repair at one of my rental properties. We agreed to meet at 10 AM the next Saturday to quote the job. He arrived at 10:45. After a few minutes of walking through the site and talking through what I wanted done (and many more talking about unrelated things) he pitched a solution to the problem, quoted a loose estimate on workload and cost, and said he would be in touch in the next day or so to confirm timing for his guys to come out. Fast forward two weeks later and still no response. I've attempted to contact him to see what the deal is, but no word back. I ended up going with someone else and now the job is moving along nicely, but his lack of professional courtesy to at least respond back to an email has delayed the repair and been a gross waste of my time. Not to mention having to tell the tenants that the guy they met, who said he will be doing the job, flaked and we have to get someone else out. I can't comment on quality of workmanship, but Decatur Handyman fails in the professionalism category. Steve - if you have 30 minutes to stand in the driveway and tell me a story about your nine cats, I assume you can at least take two minutes to shoot over an email saying you can't fulfill your verbal obligation. That would save everyone some time and headache...

Positives: - Steve did the work we requested at a very reasonable rate - he saved us about $150 compared to other contractors we could have used (he installed three toilets and fixed our garbage disposal) -Friendly demeanor and on-time Improvements: -He was at times difficult to get a hold of via e-mail or phone Overall, aside from delays in communication, I would strongly recommend Steve for any job around the house.

I'll never know the quality of his work because he blew us off. He didn't even call and cancel. He just decided not to show up. Here's the best part: He blew us off not just once but 3 times!!! I have now lost trust in this guy and wouldn't want him touching our house even if he decided to show up for once.

If I had been Steve, I wouldn't have answered my third call, but he did. Three fun-filled days under the house and in crevices to help get the gas restored and the water heater working,because I didn't read the instruction on the water heater that third night. Truly willing to do whatever it took to make sure I had heat and hot water - with a smile and the patience to find and fix the problem. I will use him again if I ever need anything done around the house!

Steve missed our first appointment on a Friday and had to reschedule for later that day. I accomodated and after we met he told me an estimate would be sent that weekend. Never happened and he did not contact me with an explanation. Called him on Tue and he said it was not sent but he was about to click send on his email. The email never came and a response finally arrives a week later stating that he was obviously overbooked and can't take on the work. The email response was terse and no apologies were extended for the lack of communication and the significant delay that he had cost me. To add insult to injury, his email was sent with a signature that states: "I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you." This unprofessional signature has no business showing up in any type of correspondence and especially not in one for a business transaction and it was certainly not one that I wanted to see in an unapologetic email ending the poor customer service experience. Worst of all, I contacted Steve because I was acquainted with his wife and wanted to return the favor and send work his way. My experience with his wife was very positive so I have been reluctant to post this. However, customer service is something I believe very much in and seeing how the referral relationship didn't mean anything to Steve I have finally decided to post this so others would not experience the same. If he didn't want the work he should have just stated it honestly up front.

Steve has a great work ethic, is personable, does solid work, and has great prices. I'm not sure what else you could ask for. He's done a couple of jobs for us now, and has most definitely gotten our permanent business. As an added plus he's an animal lover. If you have pets that can sometimes be a real issue, inviting strangers with tools into your house who freak out your animals. Not so with Steve.

I just had Steve at my house this weekend working on a couple of projects I couldn't sort out myself - he showed up exactly when promised, did very high quality work, and the prices were fair. We will definitely use him again for handyman service ... highly recommended.

My wife and I have called Decatur Handyman for several projects within our home since 2009. He has showed up on time and ready to work. He has even fit us in last minute. We truly appreciate the quality work that he has putt into our home without trying to take us for a run and take our money. I would recommend (and have recommended) Decatur Handyman to friends, family, and coworkers. If you live in the north metro area I feel bad for you because you cannot utilize Decatur Handyman's services.

Fast & efficient and there is only one handyman in Atlanta that we will now use. Decatur Handyman will give you the best price in town and do the absolute best work. Totally happy!
The experience I have had with Steve and his crew is awesome, I'm openening a new business in Atlanta and I know about baking but I don't know much about construction, this is where the awesome part comes in. Saved me money and a headache from dealing with other contractors. I will always use their services and recommend them highly.
Steve fixed some cabinets at my house. He spent a good bit of time getting the right hinges, rehangind doors and matching up a drawer face to the rest of the cabinets. We no longer look like trailer trash. Thanks!
Have used this guy several times. Expensive, but very high quality work. Then called for additional work, scheduled, and no show. Twice! No call, no contact, nothing. Think he's trying to be a contractor without the contractor's license, going for the bigget jobs. Fine, but don't schedule me and then NO SHOW. Unprogessional. Deleted from my coontacts. Bye.

Showed up late to fix a slight pipe leak in a closet. Pretty simple job. Drywall was not professionally hung (you could see the tape, it was not flush with wall and they didn't paint to match the existing wall. Told me the mud would dry 'white'. Wanted to charge me $620. Finally his crew spilled paint and mus everywhere on clothes and hid it. We found it after he left. Left a mess for us to clean as well. Pathetic work, sloppy and expensive.

This is a blatant misrepresentation of what happened. We showed up at 10am, which is, indeed later than 9:30. We had to take down a California closet system, tarp off the closet and bedroom, cut into the wall, remove an eight foot section of four inch drain pipe, replace it, test it for leaks and then replace the drywall as well as the closet system. All of this took two guys seven and a half hours and required 100.00 in material. The bill for all of this Should have been 800.00. I had given an estimate for "about five hundred" and figured that 620.00 would be a fair meeting point. This guy goes into a rant, and I told him to "write a check for what you think is fair". He thought 475.00 was fair, we shook hands, we finished cleaning and cleared out. I got an email a few days later..."Your crew spilled paint all over clothes in our bedroom and then tried to cover it up. We found it when I finished putting together the closet and putting things awayI am letting you know so you can address it with your crew. I can send pictures, but I really don't have time to deal with this. We took the clothes to dry cleaner to see if they can do anything" I replied..."I'm going to need to see what you are talking about. I also have some paperwork I need for you to sign off on. I want to try to understand what happened and how. You removed the clothes on the side of the closet that we were working on. We stacked the closet sections in front of those clothes before any other work happened, then we tarped over all of the clothes on the opposite section of the closet. I did the tarp work and made sure that it was secure. The tarps over the clothes were still in place when we finished and started cleaning. What I'm trying to figure out is how paint could possibly get through the tarps or on the far side of the room without my having seen it. I wanted to see which clothes had paint on them, where they were positioned relative to the work area and what else had paint on it, since paint spills are never localized. Finally, I wanted to compare all of this to the pictures I took of job. We try to take every precaution with our customer's property. If something happened, I want to know what, why and how so that we can prevent it from happening again." He replied..."It was the clothes we put outside the closet. We should have never left them that close to your working area. It got all over some clothes that we brought back from Vietnam a few weeks ago. Hopefully the dry cleaner can help. Best of luck to you." Odd ending for someone who thinks we suck so badly
