We design modern kitchens and created a US made modern cabinet system called Besh (www.beshcabinets.com). We serve the individual homeowner, designers, and builder & developer markets.
Our kitchens (in our house and in a rental) are the hubs of their respective homes, but they were less useful than we wanted. We struggled for years to figure out how to improve them. So, we jumped at the chance to have Eco-Modernism look at them with fresh eyes. I had been intimidated by the idea of hiring a kitchen designer. I thought it would cost an arm and a leg, and that it'd take endless frustrating meetings with the designer. But Eco-Modernism took the fear factor out completely. They came all the way to Washington, DC, to see the spaces and measure them and to talk to us about what we were trying to accomplish. And in a week or so, we had initial drawings that addressed our functionality problems. We chatted via Skype about some tweaks to the initial drawings, and then voila! I had a complete set of drawings and an order list for IKEA. It was easy as pie, and fun to boot!

We bought a condo in downtown Durham early this spring and knew that we wanted to renovate the kitchen before moving from New York City in May. We found EcoModernism through our realtor, and are thrilled that they took our circa-1981 kitchen and changed it into a modern, functional space that fits our taste. Becky and Heike were very communicative - we corresponded by phone and email constantly - and were able to design the kitchen and move forward with the construction while still in NY. We moved to Durham just in time to see the counter tops being installed! I appreciate that Becky gave us independence in selecting materials, but was available with suggestions if we asked. Like any major project, there were small bumps in the road, but the team had a great attitude and addressed any issues. Again, we're really happy with the results and for working with EcoModernism!

So glad we worked with Becky! We took a bit of a chance and hired her online -- we've never met face to face. But we were extremely pleased with every aspect of the process. She truly listens, has excellent vision, great follow-up and a great sense of humor. Total pro. The plans were great. She patiently and clearly answered a bunch of newbie questions while we were doing the build work ourselves. The end result is a kitchen that we use and enjoy 100x more than before. Our pals love it but the real value to us is just enjoying -- and utilizing -- our own space so much more. Couldn't have done it without her. Would hire her again in a minute and have recommended her to lots of other folks.

Becky was a joy to work with. She had great patience with us as she guided us through several iterations of kitchen plans before we decided on the one just right for our space. She was always flexible and accommodating to our needs and schedules and always delivered as promised. We highly recommend Becky for an affordable, first class kitchen.

Recently I made the adult decision to purchase a condo in the downtown Raleigh area, everything was great about this place, except the kitchen. My kitchen was so small, I couldn't open my refrigerator without hitting my dishwasher and bar area directly across from it, my cabinets were so small I couldn't fit a standard sized plate in them, and storage was a nightmare. I found Eco Modernism thru the wonders of Google and loved the idea of using Ikea, I am a self proclaimed Ikea junkie. Not only are the products durable, they are great for organization and storage. Becky was incredibly easy to work with and knew everyone to contact regarding destruction, counter tops, back splash, etc. I would have been completely lost if it were not for her. Her input was honest and she answered every concern I had, even if it was a ridiculous concern, she even custom made a built in shelf for my dog bowls! To top everything off, she was in and out in 2 weeks so the chaos was minimal. The moral of this story is I now have a functioning kitchen, amazing amounts of storage and a home that I love nesting in.
