The best way to go into HPB is with an open mind - that is, without a specific title in mind - but make sure you establish your budget before you walk in the door! Browse every shelf in every section, pick up every title you think you might like, then sit down and decide which permutation of these books will yield you the most reading material for your budget. You'll never walk out with fewer than four books, even if you're only want to spend $20!

This is a great book store if you are just browsing for a new(to you)book. If you go looking for a specific book, good luck! I've never had any luck finding a specific title...and sometimes not even a series. But if you are just looking for something new to read....go and save lots of $$.
Probably the biggest used bookstore that you'll ever visit. The selection is great in most categories, although the organization of the children's section could use some major help. The Value rating would be higher if "half price" really always meant half price.
What an incredible place. It's like a library where you are free to purchase what you find. You can get some unbelievable deals here on even new books, and they have a very generous children's summer reading program.

Half-price Books has something for everyone. This particular location is absolutely huge and has used and new books, CDs, games, etc. It's best to be open-minded about what you are looking for, because you never know what will be on the shelves. You can also sell books and records, etc. here, but they don't pay much for them. However, anything they can't re-sell or use, they recycle. Check it out!
I've never been to HPB when I didn't feel like I'd made a discovery. I ALWAY find a great book or CD. We've found everything from rare recordings, classic original childrens books and novels we were always meaning to read but just hadn't gotten around to it. They don't pay much if you sell but you sure get a bargain when you buy.
I can give the kids each $5 and they will walk out with 3 or more books! The children's selection hs lots to choose from. They only down side is if you are looking for a certain book- the staff is not as helpful as I would like. But for the price it can't be beat.

This is a huge used bookstore that's fun to browse. You can get good deals on used books, but if you're looking for something in particular, it's the luck of the draw whether they have it. But you can call ahead and ask, and they will check their shelves and call you back. I find that many of their children's books are not used and not that great of a bargain. Oh - they'll buy your used books too, but pay you pennies for them. Still, if you're looking to get rid of them, at least you get something.

If there is something obscure that you're looking for, or just trying to find a recent book release for a little bit cheaper, there is a good chance that they will have it here.

if you love books, a bargain, and have a little time to kill, this is the place for you. It is huge.... it takes a while to see it all. It has great books at great prices, fun gift items, calendars and good mini massages. I never leave without a huge box of books. The downside...the service is non-existent except at check out. There isn't a soul to help you who actually knows where anything is. When I have asked for help I get a lot of mumbling, sometimes a suggestion of what area of the store I might want to look through and a lot of nothing. If you are used to the impecible service at the high end book stores, be prepared! I also wouldn't suggest you sell your books to them if you are expecting ANY money. The offers are always LOW. I prefer to give my books to charity instead, at least it is a tax break.

If you don't mind searching the shelves, you'll find a great deal on books at Half Price Books. This main location is so big you can waste away hours just browsing, which for some people is a hobby I suppose, browsing bookstores.

This store is huge and they always have a ton of sales and bargain items. Even if you know what you want you can't help but browse thanks to the wide selection and cheap prices. If you like reading this is the place to go. Buy your books and head to the cafe to hang out and read over some lovely desserts or get a cheap chair massage.

The best bookstore in Dallas. This store is HUGE and they have a little bit of everything. It's fun to browse, but there is a good chance they'll have what you're looking for if you need a specific title. GREAT prices. Helpful employees.
