A Law Firm ON YOUR SIDE
The attornies of Hannon & Associates, LLC stand ready to assist you with any legal challenge you face. This is one law firm that's ON YOUR SIDE.
The Principal attorney at Hannon & Associates is Mr. W. Scott Hannon, Esq. Having served the nation as a career Marine officer, a federal civil servant, and stockbroker, Mr. Hannon started Hannon & Associates, LLC in order to protect civil liberties following the tragic events of September 11, 2001. .. His firm now practices criminal defense and general civil litigation in all areas of the law. During his time in the Marine Corps, Mr. Hannon was an Intelligence Officer and saw combat in Kuwait during Desert Storm, conducted counter-narcotics operations abroad, and provided surveillance of warring factions in Bosnia, receiving numerous awards and commendations for his service.
Mr. Hannon attained an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the Pennsylvania State University, a Masters Degree in International Relations from Salve Regina University in Newport, RI, and a law degree from the University of the District of Columbia. During law school, Mr. Hannon was honored as a Deans Fellow and a recipient of both the James Farmer Scholarship and the David C. Niblack Public Defender Scholarship. While a law student, he represented DC residents in two separate legal clinics: one for HIV-positive clients seeking benefits and exerting rights; and another for whistle blowers who reported wrongdoing in the federal government.
Upon admission to the bar, Mr. Hannon began litigating criminal trial, post-conviction relief and civil cases in Maryland and Washington, DC. Highlights of his work include successfully arguing before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals in a case where Mr. Hannon was able to overcome the time limit for notice required in the Maryland Tort Claims Act by demonstrating that malice existed when sheriffs deputies brutally beat his client after he had succumbed to police authority. That case led to a substantial settlement for Mr. Hannons client and the implementation of reforms and monitoring of a county sheriffs department. Other highlights include successfully litigating in employment discrimination trials, as well as negotiating a substantial settlement for a client in a civil rights/racial defamation case against a major convenience store chain in Maryland.
Mr. Hannon is absolutely committed to his clients and is a zealous advocate for their interests. During the time Mr. Hannon has been practicing law, he is proud to claim that he has personally visited clients in every one of the many state and federal correctional institutions in Maryland and DC, providing personalized client service, especially important to a population who so badly need legal representation, but so rarely receive it once they are incarcerated.
Mr. Hannon is an active member of numerous veterans, legal, and non-profit organizations, including the Disabled American Veterans, the American Association for Justice, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the American Bar Association. He is on the Board of Directors of Guide Program, Inc., a not-for-profit provider of services and residential placement for people suffering from mental illness.
