We selected Hemma based on reviews and referrals from neighbors, whose driveways look fantastic. Hemma did a great sales job and communication was great up front. During demo, the crew broke our marked water main, but they didn't have a meter key, nor was a supervisor on hand to resolve the problem quickly. Thankfully a neighbor had a key to shut off the water, and several hours later the supervisor showed up to fix the main. Another neighbor was kind enough to let us use their bathroom while we waited. While the supervisor was pleasant enough, in my opinion communication was not the best on his part, and I sometimes had to call other staff to find out the status of things. Hemma did deduct our extra water usage from the broken pipe and fixed other broken sprinklers. There were a few other minor issues including what we were told were cosmetic, that had us scratching our heads. I'm guessing we had a different work crew than our neighbors.

Hemma Concrete replaced our driveway in 2009. Some small cracks appeared, which were cosmetic but annoying. Over time, rust patches appeared over the entire driveway. They are very noticeable and not appealing at all. Hemma said that they were caused by iron in the soil but the old driveway showed no signs nor do any neighbor's driveways show rust. I said there was probably iron in the concrete aggregate. After some back and forth emails, I was then ignored. I am in the process of trying to get rid of the spots by scrubbing with a liquid mixture.

1. Lee Roberts from Hemma came and gave a great sales pitch. In fact, he even stated that his son believes in satisfying his customers and one customer was not satisfied and Hemma ripped out a newly poured driveway twice until she said she was satisfied. It is a great sales pitch but don't believe it. 2. The driveway job was underestimated because our old driveway was thicker than what is 'normal'. Read the fine print of the estimate they send you. We were responsible for the additional cost for the extra dumpster to remove the concrete - $475. 3. 2 loads of concrete were poured and that part of the driveway looks awesome. The 3rd concrete truck came a few hours later and the joint where the concrete had settled and new concrete has small cracks. We were told this is normal. We looked at other driveways done up the road by a competitor of Hemmas and we don't see any cracking in the joints. 4. We would not recommend Hemma for cleaning and sealing a stamped concrete sidewalk/front stoop. We were initially invoiced $1200+ for 2 guys to come for 2 hours (1 guy did the work and the other supervised), pressure wash and roll the sealant on. In hindsight, we could have hired our handyman to pressure wash and put sealer on for about $300. They did come down to $700 for the work after it was questioned. 5. In order to get your warranty - you have to pay in full for the work done.

My wife and I called Hemma Concrete and talked to Reginald Cook. He first was very nice and was willing to do what he called a small job as a favor to my father-in-law who had a large job for him that he completed. Reginald Cook made a verbal contract with my wife to do our job at our home. We had to work with Frank Diaz as the project manager. Frank would tell us that we were scheduled to get our job done and he would call us. However, he would never call us. After several times, I called Reginald back. Reginald keep talking about that he was doing us a favor and that we needed to be patient with the timing. It was already approaching four weeks. To make a long story short, Reginald Cook got made because I was calling out the unprofessionalism of his staff and company that he told me he was not going to do our job and good luck with it. He hung up the phone. I do not recommend this company at all! When some tells you that they will do something or call you, I expect them to do it. I don't believe it is too much to ask. Unprofessionalism and no dependability. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

It took a while to decide on a design. Lee Roberts was very patient and made several visits to help guide us. The cost was reasonable and lower than others. Frank Diaz and his crew did an excellent pour, even making adjustments to the forms when pouring. Russell & crew laid a paver apron that looks great! Couldn't be more pleased. Several neighbors commented on how good it looks.

Hemma wasted my time by coming out to give me a quote and never following through with their promises. The estimator quickly told me he was not qualified to give me a quote and someone else would contact me to schedule ANOTHER appointment. Well, no call back. I have called them twice since then and no call back. They are not professional enough to tell you up front they don't want the work. It would not be so irritating if i did not listen to the estimator tell me for 5 minutes how customer focused they are. If the owner really does have an extremely high customer satisfaction expectation, he would be beside himself to witness the performance of the front side of his business.

Doug, I am surprised to see the comments in your review. You will recall that one of the items you wanted us to do was remove the largest tree stump I have ever seen and it happened to be right where you wanted your driveway to be. Since removal of that size tree stump is not something that we do, I told you that I would need to have someone who does that kind of work look at it and tell me how much it would cost to remove the stump. I immediately did that and sent you a quote 2 days later. I called you the following day after sending the quote to see if you had any questions about the quote. You had no questions but said the price was more than you could afford. I have not heard from you since, however, I did go by your home 4 months later on February 5, 2013 and the concrete work still has not been done. Doug, many people have budget problems of one sort or another but this is the first time someone has tried to blame us for their budget problems. Please feel free to let us know when those problems have been resolved and we will be happy to try and help you with your concrete needs. Thanks. Lee
I had a vision in my head and wasn't sure anyone would be able to see it. I tried clipping out pictures in magazines and printing off photos online to help show what type of "oasis" I was looking to create in my back yard. Upon the first visit, I felt like they "got me." In turn, I received a fair quote, a reasonable time frame and I hired them without hesitation! In the end, I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to spread the good word about Hemma, because they made my dreams a reality!

Hemma Concrete -- Robert Brooks and his staff installed a new driveway and two retaining walls on our in-town property. Robert and Hemma staff were always available, on time, took care of all permits, and Robert was always willing to answer our many questions. The entire tear-down, clean-up, framing and concrete installation were done without any problems. The entire job was inspected and passed with 'flying colors'. Most home improvements in the past have left us with PTS. :-( Without reservations... we highly recommend Hemma Concrete, Robert Brooks and his professional staff. Thanks, HH on Johnson

Hemma replaced my driveway and installed a paver retaining wall, walkway to my front door and path with steps into my backyard. They did a fantastic job, their workers were courteous and responsible and highly skilled. Pricing was competitive and the suggestions and feedback during the design phase of the walkway were very helpful. What has impressed me the most has been that they have stayed in touch after the job was done and stand behind their work (we had minor sagging in the steps as the soil settled and they came back and fixed it). Really refreshing to work with a contractor that does not disappear once the check clears!

I solicited estimates from 3 companies and had my son evaluate them, since he has experience in construction. He decided on Hemma and I agreed. It was an excellent choice for replacing our sidewalk and driveway and constructing 2 large retaining walls. We have had numerous compliments from neighbors on the look we now have. One very important point is that they came through immediately when there was a problem -- one of the blocks in a wall was cracked. They took apart the wall to replace the block as soon as I pointed it out to them. Their employees were very polite and worked quietly and efficiently. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

When decided we wanted to double the size of the patio with a stamped concrete patio, we called several companies for bids and info. Of the three companies who came out, Hemma Concrete was by far the most detailed. The rep brought photos of previous jobs, a book of possible finishes, and information about the process. The three estimates were all in the same ball park, but Hemma was the only company that was not requiring me to remove a portion of my fence so they could get their equipment to my backyard. To be precise, Hemma said THEY would remove the fence and reinstall it at the end of the job. The other contractors wanted me to do it at my own expense. Hemma's references checked out, so we scheduled the install. Hemma sent us copies of insurance for the job, so we felt very comfortable that even if something went wrong, we were truly covered. The install took about two days with prep taking place the first day and the pour taking place on the second with the dye and stamping taking place at the end. After the concrete set, they returned to seal it and cut expansion joints. They did an excellent job with the install and clean up. We've had the patio now for two years and have been very happy with it.

Hemma's was the second lowest of the five bids we got. We chose them to replace our driveway and front walk because they used better concrete than all but one other bid, offered the best warranty by far, and gave a more thorough and informative presentation than the others. Hemma did everything exactly as promised, right down to cleaning the yard and pressure-washing the street when they were done. The entire job was completed in less than two days. Eight months later we're entirely satisfied; we've had no problems whatsoever, and the quality of the job perfectly complements the pride and care I try to show in the rest of my property.
